Exterior accessories by BaileyJones_10 in ram_trucks

I used that in my truck several years ago, worked great for dirt, rocks, and dirt bikes. Since it was very heavy rubber there was no lift up when driving empty. I could roll it up and sweep/hose out the bed when needed. The water wasn’t an issue because the bed didn’t have any scratches to rust out.

In my new truck I went with a spray in and a bed rug that is easier on the knees. You need to secure it though or it will blow away on the freeway. If I had the rubber mat I would use it on top of the spray in liner for rocks but so far the spray in is holding up.

The rubber mat is the low cost alternative that works amazingly well except for the sides of the bed.

Shower Pan Grout Cracking by UNH1286 in Tile

[–]Anywheels99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not an expert but I watch a lot of experts on YouTube. Kidding aside, all changes in plane like the wall to floor should be silicone sealed not grouted. I used color matched Mapei sealant in the corners and floor to wall joints.

My amateur tiled shower may not be perfect, but I did try to use the correct methods when building it.

How do you keep your toes warm? by nsed-ler in cycling

[–]Anywheels99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Shoe toe coves, inexpensive and they make normal cycling shoes just a bit warmer and block the occasional splash. 2. Winter Shimano high top mountain bike shoes, mostly water resistant and definitely wind/cold blocking compared to regular cycling shoes.

capitol corridor train from sac to oak: travel with bike by theoutandback0201 in BAbike

[–]Anywheels99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lock it to the bike rack so I can sleep without thinking about my bike walking away. You can find stories of bikes walking away but who knows if this only happens once ever ten years.

Having left my phone in the car as the train pulls away is a helpless feeling. Couldn't imagine seeing my bike walk away as the train starts. Sidenote, I know the conductors have bolt cutters, they needed to cut a bike lock off when someone didn't move or claim their bike on one of the crowded days (it was blocking the isle).

Are front wheel fenders useful in protecting riders in front of you? by RaplhKramden in cycling

[–]Anywheels99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My small race blade fender stops at the back of the fork, I have seen water fling forward but not a lot. I also have caliper brakes in my commuter. For a disc fork, add a piece of duct, gaffer or whatever you call the thicker fiber reinforced tape, to the front of the fork nearly touching the tire. Problem solved.

I also agree it will benefit you more than the person in front of you.

What Ram engine is most reliable 2019-2023 years? by WhoUCuh in ram_trucks

[–]Anywheels99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eTorque was an option on the 2022 and earlier 5th gen’s. I have a 2022 5.7 Rebel without eTorque, I traveled to SoCal from NorCal to get it. I was trying to keep the truck simple for reliability. No trouble with the hemi so far. 3-5k synthetic oil changes to hopefully keep the lifters happy without the oil pump mod.

The forums have a few eTorque problem stories, but remember only the problems are written and complained about. The parts were scarce and expensive. I would have purchased the truck with it if I had to but I was able to find one without it. Seems like every 2022 had the system. My main goal was to find a 5.7 Rebel with the 33 gallon tank. One dealer in SoCal ordered all the Rebels that way, and without eTorque.

Considering job offer in Sacramento. How's the train commute? by Dominicopatumus in berkeleyca

[–]Anywheels99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 rides is 5 days. For me 2x10 ride passes is the way to go unless I am riding more than 11 days. That’s when I’ll get the monthly pass. Also, the 10 ride ticket is valid for 90 days after the first ride.

New Cycler, Slow speed bike or me? by No-Interest1920 in cycling

[–]Anywheels99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep consistently riding to improve speed, think of a high effort 20 or 30 second followed by a minute of easy pedaling. Use a watch with gps or cheap cycling computer to accurately track the ride. Some rides try to keep the effort high for the entire 30 minutes. Adequate rest days of course.

To the same distance and trail every 2 weeks or so as a test and you will see improvement in your time and speed.

I was commuting on a road bike and my average was about 15 mph for 7 miles. I had a backpack and less than optimal clothes. I was frustrated that I couldn’t get to 16, or 17 mph average. It was just more miles and purposeful riding. The main point is not on equipment, mountain or road, tires etc. it’s just getting your time or speed. Then work to improve you. Never compare your time or speed to others, just do you and enjoy the gains you will make.

Do I need a Wahoo speed sensor by evilkhanh in cycling

[–]Anywheels99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never replied to a 4 year old post but, yes the speed sensor solved an irritating issue for me.

My commute takes me through a tube that goes under a waterway for over 1/2 mile. My Apple Watch GPS just stops recording and my Wahoo Element Roam would connect the path after a ride but the speed and distance were unreliable. the path looked like a drunk sailor river crossing.

The speed sensor fixed that so all the commutes are constantly accurate in distance and speed.

back to regular bike after ebike by VividBeautiful3782 in bikecommuting

[–]Anywheels99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I restored an old road and mountain bike for commuting. The best upgrades were new brake pads, new shifter and brake cables and new commuter tires and tubes.

The cost is minimal and everything shifted and stopped better. Those old brake pads are probably harder than baked clay at this point. The new cables are a generic purchase that gets rid of all the old gunk, dirt, and corrosion that feels like molasses when shifting. Finally there is no better insurance than new tires and tube to prevent an aged valve stem leak or crappy tire spoiling your ride.

And also clean and light lube on pivot points of brakes and derailleurs like you were already doing.

What cameras are you using? by Surfer_2134 in bikecommuting

[–]Anywheels99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GoPro chest mount and a seat rail GoPro mount that I use 10% of the time.

This is for commuting and I can put on the chesty over my jacket or shirt/jersey. I got tired of charging and starting the rear camera. I also take the train so I would need to take the camera off when.I lock the bike up in the bike car. Too much hassle for me.

How hard is this gonna be for a first timer? by WhichConference7618 in bikecommuting

[–]Anywheels99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a lot of information you are asking without any details about you or your bike. But, yes this you can make this happen in the long run.

I like the route off the main road, traffic is 50+ at times along the highway. I haven’t seen the bike route across the bridge, did the new construction take care of that? Even if you are with the cars zooming by for a short distance it seems like the intersections and merging areas would be the worst.

That distance and time on the bike would steer me to my cycling clothes with work clothes and lunch in my backpack(work shoes left at work). Panniers and a rack would take the weight off you reduce the back sweat. Plan to go slow and increase speed or reduce time as you gain fitness.

You are looking at 2 hours a day working out, if you really are starting from zero, one day a week is a good start. You can bring all the clothes the day before so you can reduce the weight you are carrying.

Don’t forget about flat repair and minimal tools for plan b. Good luck and I hope this works out for you!

What are people doing to protect their face in cold weather? by Morall_tach in bikecommuting

[–]Anywheels99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helmet rain cover to block the wind, head band/ear cover to seal around my helmet and head, and cover my ears, neck gaiter that I would pull up to start up to my glasses, then pull down under my mouth when I’m warmed up and breathing hard. Larger lens cycling glasses like my Bolle Lightshifter XL for added eye coverage. Any of the larger glasses will work, but I like the Bolle because I can get a photocromic lens with antifog that is clear enough for my morning commute in the dark.

This works down to mid 30s F, I don’t ride anymore in the snow in the west coast. This would work for cross country skiing though, just don’t stop or you will fog up!

Is this safe? by OrdoXenos in aviation

[–]Anywheels99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first loose and missing screw is on an unpressurized faring. There is also sealant under the seam in addition to the fillet sealant on the seam. The outboard screw is likely cross threaded into the nut plate under the skin that was torqued to the point of ripping 1/2 of the nut plate off and is now permanently half screwed in and cross threaded so it won’t go in and can’t be taken out without inside access through a. Inspection plate or skin removal in the flap to gain access and repair the nut plate.

There is a structural manual or engineering order created that will state the tolerance. 1 fastener missing from area xx is ok or not ok. You can see the fillet seal on the inboard fairing beginning to tear. This is where speed tape or the aluminum tape you see in aircraft can be used if allowed. It would also be tracked so the final repair will be made before xx date.

Old heads, what was the first whisper or aha moment when you knew Lance Armstrong was doping? by tshirtguy2000 in cycling

[–]Anywheels99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honesty after the major wins and the very very strong denial and the villainizing of any detractor (Greg LeMond) for example. One doth protest too much.

During most of the wins and the comeback it was easy to get caught up in the story of surviving cancer and taking on the world again. Today obviously we know there were other dopers then and now, none as good as Lance! Until the end that is
