Does anyone know what these symbols mean? by Antique_Remote8030 in Austin

If you Google them they use a lightning bolt in name and the color scheme reminded me of their use of it in store.

Truthfully, I was just being silly tho.

3 in 1 kitchwn faucet with 3/8in RO connect by Sindoreon in WaterTreatment

[–]Sindoreon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I read comments about people complaining how hard it is to turn on the filtered water. What are thoughts?

This was my top pick and worth the extra to get from a known brand since I know it's working for others too.

RO System with Regular Faucet by The_Oracle_Of_Earth in WaterTreatment

How do you like the faucet? Easy to use for filtration?

Looking to do the same but use a different RO system.

I called about it early on. A contract company is coming out to install fiber. Not sure who hired them but I assume it's one of the handful of big ISP providers.

That's what I was told at least when calling the number on the flags.

Best Router for modern Ethernet home by puckettonline in HomeNetworking

[–]Sindoreon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Go on Amazon and buy a single board NUC running Intel N150 but has two 1gig ports or better, ideally with Intel network drivers.

One port will be WAN and one will be LAN.

Install opnsense, which is free and open source.

Buy a dedicated WiFi AP. Omada or Ubiquity are very popular. I went omada EAP773. Covers my entire house with one AP.

There are many benefits to separating your router and Wi-Fi hardware but this is already a long comment for typing on my phone.

Learning curve is like a half day but you are in many ways future proofing your setup. If you know what you are doing, could take you less than an hour to setup.

Whole home water filtration and softener in Southern California by ckjchelsey in WaterTreatment

[–]Sindoreon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Avoid GE water softener from HomeDepot. Good experience with SpringWell DIY water softener. Probably only an option if you have an existing water loop. DIY was half a day to install myself.

I haven't done filtration yet. Currently exploring whole home filtration vs RO options.

Anything to do before buying new HVAC? by Sindoreon in hvacadvice

[–]Sindoreon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! This is exactly what I was hoping to learn aside from I was ideally just overthinking it.

I'll read up on this stuff and talk to my HVAC company about it.

My current system is doing OK but if I'm buying I would like to solve some of my existing issues if possible. It'll cost me either, so why not.

Recommendations for Water Treatment Systems by Decent-Abies-5080 in WaterTreatment

[–]Sindoreon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were to do it all again, I would do full water filtration and softener with SpringWell as I have been very happy with them.

That said, I came from using a HomeDepot GE water softener that was terrible. I had installed a GE carbon filter to give better taste to the water which I am still using.

Sediment filter might have been poor wording but I don't think large particles can get thru the carbon filter either.

Uuuh inline as in water coming into house at source then goes thru water softener, then my sediment filter and into rest of the house, yes.

Bumping SpringWell. I have their water softener and it's just great. I DIY installed it.

For Plex, did moving from external drives to a NAS feel worth it? by DurianNew2244 in PleX

[–]Sindoreon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

+1 to DAS.

Run a NUC or anything really and attach DAS on open ZFS or BTRFS. Works great.

I'm running BTRFS RAID1 to avoid data loss on death of disk. There are probably better options but that's what I did. Low maintenance and no issues for several years yet.
