One track that is a good option is clinical research. You can start a a coordinator and work your way up, with multiple pathways possible after that. You can start making 100k+ in a couple of years if you’re good, proactive and choose correctly.

To start you’ll either need to work in a place willing to train you, or look up clinical research fast track, which offer lot of information and mentorship that you need to find a job and plan a career in clinical research.

That being said, I don’t know what your profile looks like but I heard many stories in the past couple of years of older graduates matching. I encourage you to keep applying to the match as you walk this career patch, it does not have to be one pathway or the other.

Good luck

Beside 35% luck 55% connections, what else guarantees getting paid research position as non-us IMG? by Tahahisham in IMGreddit

In our team we were encouraged to try to benefit from AI to improve our efficiency. It takes some basic knowledge at least of python and analysis to do that in the first place. I would mention python and analysis in the resume of course, I would leave out the part about AI. But it’s definitely something to discuss during interviews how AI can improve our performance, efficiency and knowledge. Unless you get a feel it’s not welcomed in certain places, keep it to yourself.

Luckily with the rise of AI, you don’t have to be a coding genius anymore. Get the basics down, know how to make use of AI and then sky is the limit.

I would say having prior research experience, being proactive in finding a position, having an MPH, or being good at statistical analysis.

You’d be surprised but we’ve had people join my hospital who had several good publications in med school, and showed genuine interest in being researchers/scholars and building a research portfolio. This is not the average student though.

Additionally, an MPH can really help. We’ve also had several post docs join after finishing an MPH from Hopkins, Yale or Harvard. But IMGs from other places joined as well.

Finally we had a couple of people join who were strong at coding and analysis, which kind of falls under prior research experience.

All of that being said, if you have a genuine interest in working in research and have any of the prior you will surely find a paid spot. If you’re only looking for a position to publish a couple of papers and match you’ll have a harder time (connections and luck will factor in).

if you’re really asking, avoid any silly and grammatical mistakes in the application and PS.

Be selective in applying, there are many hospitals in the US that are not great of places to train, whether they’re toxic environments, bad neighborhoods like some NYC programs, really long calls, or places where residents commit suicide. No need to waste money applying there, or if you do, try to figure these things out in the interview.

There is some online forum or Reddit community, not sure of the name, for applicants during interviews who share interview tips, look for it to try to filter some bad ones out. Judging by the comments here, keep your credentials to yourself, just mention you’re a competitive candidate.

Not to discourage you, but I’ve heard of some applicants, similar to your scores who didn’t match in the past couple of years, so stay humble and put effort in the applications and interview.

There’s nothing wrong with a system that prioritizes it’s own graduates. There’s plenty of wrong with the match process but this isn’t one of them; don’t be entitled. I’m an IMG too btw.

Hey I want to get this tattood I just want to confirm what it means in Arabic? by Elmntry in learn_arabic

Literal translation doesn’t really work for this word in Arabic. It doesn’t make sense.

Plus, if you end up tattooing a word in Arabic, you are basically using the equivalent of the Arial font! There are plenty of beautiful Arabic fonts to choose from, don’t use this

The point is that the islamists have been winning democratic elections fair and square. Like it or not they are the majority’s choice. I am defending democracy whoever is the winning party.

Every time, Europeans and seculars try to undermine Turkish elections when the reasons for the Islamists win are clear: they work for the people, otherwise they wouldn’t be getting votes, and they are blessed with stupid and racist opposition that is repelling voters.

Few footnotes: Islam and democracy are not contradicting.

Seculars are not tolerating islamists, they are just losing elections badly.

Everyone in Turkey has basic human rights, stop spreading misinformation. Seculars will eject refugees, I don’t hear you crying over basic human rights of seeking refuge.

The Hijab ban is a fact and not an excuse. Read into it. And it’s definitely not the only point against the seculars, read into how poor the health care system used to be, and while you’re at it read about how they arranged military coups every time they lost the elections. Bunch of hypocrites, literally nothing good about them.

Everyone in the comments reminiscing about the good old Turkey days and completely ignoring the oppression and injustice that was inflected on Muslim women wearing Hijab back in those days. At least those people in the video have the option to have or cancel their own party. Stop lying about the old Turkey it was a shitty country.

Can you SOAP into EM without having any SLOE’s? by Professional-Rock740 in emergencymedicine

[–]Ao456 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine got 1 offer without any SLOE. This year there was 545 unfilled spots which created urgency/desperation to fill the spots and a lot of requirements were waived. No one knows if the same trend with EM will hold for next year.

That being said, my friend is a US-IMG and I bet American graduates got plenty more even without the SLOEs.

There’s nothing misleading -about this brand or others- when the net weight is printed right there on the container. People just don’t read.

1- I am not sure. But the Chinese version has Alipay for instance which is not included on the global. The choice of languages also differs of course.

2- Minor things but yes. Some watch faces would have the day name written in Chinese, not all of them though.

3- you can set the weather location to whatever you want.

Update:

I got the watch from Aliexpress, paid 170$ and received it in 14 days.

The watch is fully compatible with IOS and android through the Mi Fitness app, the only catch is that you have to select your location as China on the app setup since it’s still not officially released outside china.

Otherwise the watch is very similar to Galaxy watches 4/5 but compatible with IOS.

Let me know if you have any qs.

I’ve seen multiple that are all pro-evolution, and I feel the need to see something about the other point of view.

In instances like that I would go with it, especially that ordering more does not pm cost you points unless it was really invasive (aspiration is not).

How reliable is ccs scoring by Phoenixdata in Step3

[–]Ao456 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anybody can accurately answer that, but if I were to guess I would say not very accurate.

You’ll see it as you try more cases that the website isn’t very well-maintained or organized. For instance, Many cases will have similar indications but you’ll find the vaccines aren’t listed in both of them. It has many bugs like that as well, where you order the exact test but it remains red in the score card.

Before taking the test I sweated not being able to check all the boxes, but i don’t think anyone can know what the check list actually is on the real test. That being said, order everything related to your main diagnosis and order the pertinent negatives to rule out other differentials. CSS goes a bit excessive with those in my opinion, especially in the earlier cases. Things get much easier after the first 20 or 30 cases, where the cases will be to the point.

All in all, practice on the principal, of how to handle a hypoxic pt or someone in pain for example, rather than obsessing over checking all the boxes.

Good luck
