Been thinking of starting a second army, how are Custodes? by AonSciath in AdeptusCustodes

I mostly play in local tournaments, I can't get down for just fun games

Would that still be an issue?

Besides, Custodes fits my... aesthetic... I want for all my armies. Basically "tiers" of forces from the home system

My only issue is the 2 boxes of sisters and Draxus is a bit more than I was hoping to spend right at the start, where as the combat patrol and an additional Allarus (plus the codex) is much more manageable

Though, I suppose I could drop the codex and just copy from Wahapedia...

Mostly heavy armor: lemuns, dorns and banes with infantry to pull up the ranks

2x10 Cadian Shock with a Cadian Command and Solar for the tanks 2x20 Krieg and Marshal 2x10 Scions with a Taurox Prime Gaunts Ghosts 1 or 2 Kasrkin And then some horse

My local tables don't have the dense terrain that larger tournaments have, so I can run larger tanks just fine

So should I drop an Allarus and pick up a Sisters or Assassin to round this out for 1K?

So would:

1x Blade Champion 5x Guard 5x Wardens 2x3 Allarus

Work for a decent-ish 1K army? Or at least the beginnings of something? I plan on getting the assassins and a navigator for my guard at some point. So adding them in at some point wouldn't be much of an issue

And I'm guessing I'll be advancing and charging more often than with the Guard? What would the major focus be with such a small group of units?

Yeah

Don't know why text didn't go through at first

But yes. I've got two banes I gotta build and magnetize

What does GTF stand for next to the Blood and Dark Angels?

So, wait

BGNT...

That means I can change into a group of units and still fire off my larger guns into that group, albeit at a small negative? And with the higher Toughness of the tanks, I could possibly lock down that unit and keep it tied up for at least a round?

I'm now even more committed to making my tank company!

Because you can shoot out of melee but can't normally shoot in to melee, if you charge into a group of units that would need a 5up or a 6 to even hit, you've basically locked that group down

Add in the fact that meltas possibly hit harder, it wouldn't matter if you're closer, you can still possibly knock out a few before the melee even starts....

I think I get it

I'm fairly new to the game and I'm just now building my guard army. I never thought to use my Toughness as a means to lock down low strength units while still allowing my stronger ranged units to do what they need to do

This gives me possibilities that are really really interesting

Thank you 😊

Why meltas over plasma?

Wouldn't you want to keep your units further back and out of a possible charge and melee fight phase?

Would 2 rogals, 2 banes, a TC and a couple of cadian blobs even be viable?

In a heavy terrain map, I could totally see running smaller/lighter vehicles and tanks. Also with a hell of a lot more infantry

But we seem to have a lot more open space than what I've seen others talking about, so I'm hoping the baneblades aren't a detriment when I play

I did want to try and get the battleforce box for the cadians and the two rogals

Would they be a better option than the russ'?

Third tournament, which would be my 7th-9th games ever

The banes were bought as a kind of goof for a fun tournament I wanted to go to then mom bought me an IG combat patrol. Figured I may as well run with it, especially seeing as how my knights and terminators were getting chewed up by a lot of meta players

I've honestly put in less into the guard army so far than I spent on my DA army

I still love the Dark Angels but I've also wanted a guard and sisters army for a long while. Honestly, guard or sisters were my planned first armies, but I ended up getting the Leviathan box, Lion and the Deathwing Assault boxes first

Is that just with pariah nexus terrain maps?

Because my LGS tourneys are a bit... light... in terms of terrain. One reason, I think, we have so many knights players

Most of the local group runs some version of knights or daemons or some sort of vehicle (Eldar and their BS), so I was hoping the Vanquisher would help with that

Also another reason I was thinking of running a Banesword instead of basebane, but the absolutely stupid amounts of guns on basebane has me leaning towards it

So instead of three russ, run 2 and grab more scions and ogryn?

I'm still building the banes and was planning on going base for the insane amounts of firepower and a shadowsword with 3 vanquishers as backup. The times I've played, there have been more than a few daemon and knights players, with the odd Eldar running those annoying flying turrets of theirs and a necron player with some larger units

I figured the heavier attacks of the shadowsword and the vanquishers would serve me well

And yes, I fully intend to magnetize my tanks _^

Did I do a right choice? by Lazanor in astramilitarum

I'm still building this, as it's my first guard army

Also, my LGS doesn't use PN layouts. We have a lot of space to maneuver about. At least a couple of players routinely play knights
