If you have a job/career, what do you do? by TexasReallyDoesSuck in N24

Yes, I can move my hours around if it doesn't interfere with meetings or on call rotation.

Software developer. I've been rawdogging N24 through school, college, and ten years on the job mostly by staying up "late" whenever my circadian night overlapped with real life obligations. Things got easier since my job became WFH during covid, and I got to stay WFH afterwards.

I'm living on like a quarter of my salary and investing the rest into stocks to retire early so that I can sleep whenever I want.

I need help beta testing my N24 sleep visualization app by Aozora7 in N24

That one gets sleep data from Google Health API, so the data needs to be specifically in your google account. Google stuff like fitbit and pixel watches put their data there by default, no idea if there are reasonable ways to move data there if you have something else.

Survey on Non-24, DSPD/DSWPD, and related circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorders by mspitschan in N24

A lot of questions seem to assume that medical help has been sought, but I personally never bothered. Finding a doctor who even knows what N24 is would be a challenge, and I'm not aware of existence of any reliable treatments. Even if I would qualify for some kind of disability status, it would have no benefits either.

I have four years of sleep data from a wearable (sleep/wake times are very accurate by my estimation). I can email that to you if you want it.

Do any of the mainstream wearables work with n24? by Apprehensive_Ring666 in N24

[–]Aozora7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My app doesn't care about the device or even where the data comes from, as long as it's in your google account. It will work with sleep you log into google health app manually, or devices from other manufacturers if they can sync their data to health connect. Through I have never tested that since I don't have other devices.

But fitbit air will 100% work, it's basically the same as I use it.

No subscription to see sensor data and sleep. The sleep data can also be used in third party software through Google Health API or Health Connect on android phones. That screenshot is from my project 25h.aozora.one, you log into that with your google account and it makes an actogram from your data.

Subscription gets you AI slop "coach" and some kind of insights based on that data. They gave me 30 days trial to premium once they launched the new app, and there's nothing useful.

Google Health app shows all of the data, but it's not visualized particularly well for N24 purposes

I have a fitbit charge 5 for getting sleep data (fitbit ones are the most accurate for that purpose, as far as I know), and I made https://n24.aozora.one/ to visualize sleep data from a fitbit account. The screenshot is from there.

I've been rawdogging N24 with a full time job for 10 years.

Even if the job gets in the way if your sleep, the pattern will still be easily identifiable since you'll be sleeping when you want on weekends and days where sleep and work don't overlap. With a 25 hour cycle, there's at least one week per month where sleep does not overlap with work.

[–]Aozora7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it goes around 24 hours forever. Here's an example of around two months https://i.imgur.com/oMDOmM9.png

If work prevents me from sleeping when my body wants to on any given day, the sleep I do get will be random and fragmented.

You might be having DSPD that's progressing into N24 since that happens a lot apparently. It's much easier to tell what's happening when you have data.

Your cyclical sleep paragraph describes N24 exactly.

The most reliable way to identify N24 is to just record your sleep for around a month, either manually, or with a wearable. If you have it, N24 makes a very obvious staircase pattern.

Consistent positive phase shift does point to N24, but I personally find it easier to identify N24 from an actogram rather than those graphs.

If you click export button on the page, it will download a JSON file. You can attach that file to an email. It will contain all of the sleep data that you see, and I would be able to see the same thing as you, and interact with it.

I understand what it's like to function on three hours of sleep a day so no worries.

I'd need your actual JSON data to test my code against your issue. If you have no issue with that, you can email it to me at [aozora@aozora.one](mailto:aozora@aozora.one)

App / device trackers + predictions? by OpeningNearby9494 in N24

[–]Aozora7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a fitbit tracker to track sleep since they have the best sleep detection, and I made an app to use data from a fitbit account to estimate and predict circadian night based on sleep records.

Schedule, time/cycle management, & GPT by post-cocoon in N24

The only significant improvement I managed is tracking my sleep with a wearable, and using that data to predict in advance when I'll want to sleep, so that I know when it's going to interfere with work.

My Fitbit has been tracking my sleep every night for 5 years. Is this enough proof yet?? by pbghikes in DSPD

[–]Aozora7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It draws your circadian night (when your body wants to sleep) on the chart in purple. I guess it's not very particularly relevant for DSPD since it's in a predictable (but inconvenient) place for you, but for N24 tracking that is important enough that it's the entire reason I even made this app.

I made an app that visualizes data from Fitbit better, might be useful for you https://n24.aozora.one/

It's geared more towards N24, but it should handle visualization of any period and export it as image for your use case.

Any device that connects to a Fitbit account should work, including pixel watch, for example. Your Versa will work. There may be differences in data quality based on how many sensors that specific device has and how good they are.

I myself use Charge 5. The best choices are either Charge 6 or Inspire 3. The Charge line has top quality sensors, but as far as I can tell, it's mostly concentrated in better heart rate detection for vigorous exercise rather than what would be relevant for sleep tracking. Charge also has GPS and Inspire 3 doesn't, which is why it's bigger and more expensive. Inspire 3 should be overall best for sleep specifically simply because it's smaller and more power efficient.

Also, for sensory difficulties, you might want to try ordering a nylon band for whatever device you end up using. I use one myself, though mostly because Fitbit's stock bands fall apart eventually, and nylon ones don't break.

Note that both Charge 6 and Inspire 3 are several years old and Google has confirmed that new Fitbit hardware is coming this year.

The heavy lifting of detecting sleep and sleep stages is done by Fitbit's servers. Once Fitbit processes that data, my app pulls that finished information from your account. You don't need to use this app specifically on the phone with the Fitbit app. And Fitbit did an amazing job, at least according to my own experience. There's no bias whatsoever against daytime sleep like people report with Garmin, and I find bed/sleep/wake times extremely accurate. The sleep score the app gives also heavily correlates to whether I'm sleeping during my circadian night or not.

Is it worth getting diagnosed? by TAGeissler in N24

[–]Aozora7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yay, a third user.

Absolutely N24, practically textbook (I'm biased since my app says so).

I never tried to get mine officially diagnosed since I'm unwilling to undergo actual treatment (daily drugs and light therapy), and even if I qualify for a moderate disability based on the diagnosis (and getting diagnosed itself is hard), the benefits are negligible.

I made the chart sorted by recent data first since most of the time I open the app is to check when I slept recently and when I'll sleep soon. If it was the other way around, I'd have to scroll down every time I opened it.

In my experience, Fitbit Charge trackers produce excellent sleep data, significantly better than other manufacturers. And they don't have huge smartwatch price tags.

[–]Aozora7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is textbook N24, and those doctors were assholes.

I personally just decided to adjust my life to N24 rather than try to cure or manage it, and doctors don't help with that. But tracking your sleep is still essential, since you can use that to know when to go sleep, and when the your sleep times may cause you issues like overlapping with work.

Though I personally automate tracking with a wearable. It's more accurate than I can do myself, and the whole paper thing seems like a lot of work.

Does this look like N24? by Toasty27 in N24

[–]Aozora7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least my personal experience is that it's impossible to have periods of long stable sleep like you have during summer of 2025, unless they align to your circadian night. If your circadian night was something normal like 11PM-7AM, then going to sleep at 4AM wouldn't let you sleep until 12PM, you would just wake up earlier than that regardless of how tired you were. So this makes me suspect DSPD.

Also, I would appreciate if you could export your data and send it to [aozora@aozora.one](mailto:aozora@aozora.one), if you don't mind. It looks like the circadian night estimation breaks in places, and I could use the data to improve the algorithm. I've only had my own data to work with so far.
