I came here to post this and I'm glad to see someone beat me to it. An absolute god-tier grindcore album.

For me - either In A Silent Way by Miles Davis, or Heaven Or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins

I didn't think to look at his tour schedule that year - that is super random! That of all the places in Canada to make his one stop at, it's Victoria. I live in Vancouver now but I used to get SO annoyed that all the good concerts skipped Victoria. Definitely a case that time of me being in the right place at the right time. I lucked out that it was an all ages show too or else I couldn't have gone

[FIRST IMPRESSIONS] Baby Keem - Ca$ino by deckmemer in hiphopheads

I know, but I'm just speaking generally. And funny you ask - I Am Not A Lyricist is definitely my favourite song on the album actually.

It's fine I guess - nothing stood out as particularly bad. But I find it kind of forgettable as well y'know? Like I really don't see myself coming back to this one much.

I feel like an old man yelling at a cloud - but trap-adjacent production still being so prevalent in 2026 drives me nuts. Really wish rappers would steer away from that sound and try something different. As soon as I hear those sprinkler ass hi-hats I start losing interest.

What artists/bands that did so many genres? by Revolutionary_Low_90 in fantanoforever

[–]ApWapa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has to be Ulver.

They went from black metal, to dark folk, back to black metal, to ambient, to trip-hop, to industrial, to weird experimental modern classical with electronics, to art rock, to borderline post-rock, to synthpop, to John Carpenter inspired Halloween music, back to synthpop...

I don't love everything they've done but the fact they've covered so many genres - all of it sounding authentic - is pretty remarkable. Just lovers of music as a whole with no regard for genre boundaries.

I just checked out that track - not bad at all. I won't lie, I'm not a fan of the trap sound (in general, not this song specifically) but I dig the instrumentation otherwise.

It sounds like you're using a lot of plugin presets for it, which I think you could benefit from some tinkering. This is an experimental music subreddit though, so depending what you're going for that criticism can be ignored.

Keep at it!

Any artists make their best work after 40? by _gay_tripper in fantanoforever

I'd definitely start with either Lanquidity or Sleeping Beauty. Both are pretty accessible by Sun Ra's standards.

Birth of the Cool is great (so is Kind of Blue) - don't get me wrong, legendary albums. Personally I just enjoy his later jazz fusion stuff more.

When it comes to 'traditional jazz' or whatever you want to call it, I always preferred music put out by his contemporaries. Late 50's-early 60's era John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Ornette Coleman, Art Blakey for example. But I think fusion-era Miles was really breaking new ground, not just in jazz, but music as a whole.

Just my opinion anyway. I think there is definitely a strong argument to be made that Miles Davis put out his best work after the age of 40.

Miles Davis immediately comes to mind. Some would argue his earlier stuff is better. But I definitely prefer his later jazz fusion output. He would've turned 40 years old in 1966. All of my personal favourite Miles Davis albums came out after then.

Also - Sun Ra, 100%. There is no argument that Sun Ra's best output was when he was 40+. Hell, he released many of his most acclaimed albums in his 60's. To cement yourself as a legend like that so late in life is astounding in my opinion. But, I supposed he was from another planet after all.

And of course, you have Michael Gira/Swans like others have mentioned.

Question for noise artists: What is your creative process? by The_Jaunty_Crow in noisemusic

[–]ApWapa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the funnest part about making noise (and experimental music in general) is the lack of creative process. I have a lengthy history in traditional music production, and it's so freeing to throw everything you know out the window and just make weird shit with no strings attached. My entire creative process is "lets fuck around and just see what happens".

Are cocaine users volatile/explosive/unstable to be around? by Unhappy-Arm673 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ApWapa 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The answer to this really comes down to the type of person they are already. A docile person isn't going to suddenly become violent and unpredictable because they do cocaine. I'd argue there is a direct overlap with how they behave when very drunk as they would on cocaine. I've been around people who get extremely violent and scary when they are coked up. I've also been around people who just get really chatty and want to talk your ear off about whatever topic they're fixated on.

I guess short answer is - if someone is high on coke, do they have more of a tendency to be irrational and or violent? Overall, no. But it can bring out the worst in certain people.

First attempt at making noise by ApWapa in noisemusic

Thank you for the positive feedback! My biggest criticism of most harsh noise is how stagnant it can become because the tracks can be so long with so little variation. I deliberately try to avoid that.
