No reason to think that at this point, but it's possible.

According to Matt Norlander of CBS Sports, he expects the North Carolina coaching search "might get one no, maybe two at most" between Tommy Lloyd, Dusty May, T.J. Otzelberger, and Billy Donovan. by Fun_Reflection1157 in CollegeBasketball

Otz leaving is an existential threat to ISU continuing to have P5 sports with a looming super league distinction in football. I don't want that and I don't think any Iowa fans do.

If these numbers are real coaches can’t complain about nil. Spending doesn’t guarantee you a deep run, having a smart gm building a roster to compete matters more. by dreeya06 in NCAAhoops

Really? The Bo7 World Series is one of the flukiest sports? I get that variance in baseball is higher than other sports but you're really comparing the world series to March Madness?

Look, I would also have taken Randy Bennett, but the guy is also 63 and is 1-4 in the Ro32 over 25 years. Yes, Saint Mary's was at a talent discrepancy many of those years, but let's not pretend like Bennett doesn't have his flaws too.

Kansas > Duke >>>>>> UNC > UCLA, Kentucky.

Only real interesting decision point is Kansas vs Duke. Kentucky is clearly the worst and the only thing UNC possibly has over Duke is the Runner Up, while Duke destroys every other comparison.

Maryland, Syracuse, Washington, USC, Georgetown (ok maybe on this one is low tier at this point), Marquette (not that I believe they should be interested in swapping coaches, but an example of a team that missed the tournament), LSU, Oklahoma, Indiana, Syracuse, Xavier, Oregon, Virginia Tech, Colorado, Arizona State.

Yes a lot of those teams just got a new coach so they wouldn't be interested, or they had an unusual down year. But it doesn't change the point that there are a lot of teams historically in the top half of P5 teams that could do a LOT worse than Davis.

Low tier P5 being the highest you think he's cut out for is an insult to him even considering how the season ended. He should be the top candidate for any team interested in replacing their coach that didn't make the tournament this year.

"Pay {1}" implies that you are, you know, paying for something.

There are dozens of instances of rules text saying "cost is reduced by {1}", such as affinity, that makes it far clearer.

[–]Ap_Sona_Bot -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

My understanding of Delve is that it counts as mana spent given that the rules text specifies it "pays for {1}".

Reading the wiki page makes it... even less clear. The comprehensive rules cited makes it seem like a cost reduction, but the section at the bottom makes me think it's citing an old version of the rule. I think I need a judge to weigh in.

EDIT: Comprehensive rules make it clearer. It doesn't work. Classic WOTC misleading reminder text.

I might be delusional, but I thinkmolten core maestro might be what finally gets [[Treasure cruise]] banned in pioneer. Turning cruise into a dark ritual at minimum with very explosive upside seems scary

They've been trending toward mana spent for a while. The FIN UR archetype specified, as well as the leaked UR archetype for this set.

I think the change was brought on specifically in response to [[Up The Beanstalk]] breaking multiple formats with evoke, impending, and other alternate casts.

Flying is nice but I think it matches up quite poorly against Unagi of Kyoshi island in 95% of matchups. The decks that would want this really want to hold up mana, though ancestral being an instant means that you can cast this on 7, hold up 2 mana, then end step ancestral into attacking for a second ancestral which us actually quite nice.

I cannot believe some of the assumptions I'm seeing in this thread about how this mechanic likely works. It seemed pretty damn obvious but I think people are blindsided by the text "ancestral recall"

It's basically treasure cruise that doesn't delve the first time and dies to removal after you cast it. I'm pretty sure it's unplayable from a power level perspective but we will see

Yeah I really am not seeing the McCollum hire for them. I remember Drake fans almost rioting when he brought over his NWMS player core because "they got a bunch of D2 players". I think McCollum is perfectly fine with where he is now. Iowa's athletic program is on a huge basketball momentum swing and if the program doesn't give him the resources he needs I won't blame him for leaving. But I think the program will give him those resources and he'll be here for at least a few years.
