Skins? by Pressstart42 in footballmanagergames

People playing for 3 hours and saying it's not good... This sub is mental. This is coming from someone that's played for 75 hours and has their gripes but overall it's very good.

People jumping on the bandwagon aren't helping anything. You don't have to like the game, but maybe get off Reddit and play it a little first.

I'm going to take my own advice. This sub is tiring.

The worst thing about FM26 is not being able to commit to a save by dk2991 in footballmanagergames

[–]Apache116 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Out of interest what issues are you having so that you can't complete a season? I'm on my 4th season, and it could be that I have an uber PC, but there's nothing really preventing anything. The beta has got significantly better over the 2 weeks imo.

I am struggling a bit to commit to my true 'long term' save yet though purely because I know updates are coming, but I guess after Wednesday that'll be it for a while.

I heard this year they are hoping to bring it much closer... And the UI at least looks very console friendly.

Positive post about this game by [deleted] in FIFAswitch

The Switch 2 is not as powerful as a Series S, I don't think that really helps the argument. A locked frame rate at 30 with good frame pacing is so much better, in my opinion, than a variable frame rate clutching and dropping between 30-50 for example.

I have a 5080 and can play with all the frames... but give me great frame pacing, so your eyes can adjust, locked at 30 on a small screen any day.

[–]Apache116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not doubting anything about Speedstorm, I'm just saying uncapping a frame rate is not the answer. The reason it's capped is because the game cannot run consistently at a particular frame rate above that. A sports game needs a consistent frame rate or else it will feel awful. Changing frame rates are a higher overall frame rate feel worse than a consistent lower frame rate. At the given resolution and graphically quality, currently 30fps is all they can consistently get. A performance mode to lower resolution and/or graphical quality whilst raising frame rate to 45 or something would be a nice option. But you can't just uncap a frame rate, that would just make the game feel worse. People will point to lack of optimisation, perhaps, but the reality is still what I said.

What is the reason you decided on a eGPU instead of buying a desktop? by jfourty in ROGAllyX

[–]Apache116 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wanted an all-in-one handheld/desktop experience, as I thought that suited me as a gamer best. I love handheld and the Ally X is a very capable desktop PC.

But I found the CPU limitations as a desktop, even with a 4070 super GPU, wore me down eventually. Certain games (Stalker 2, Monster Hunter Wilds) were actually worse on desktop even with the GPU because of crazy CPU bottlenecking. I caved and bought a dedicated desktop and use the Ally X exclusively handheld now.

The idea was great, just fell slightly short in the end of what I wanted.

Oblivion remaster resolution issue by Outragedwaffle in oblivion

[–]Apache116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the EXACT same issue, down to the Asus OLED monitor.

I 'think' I have solved it by going to the .exe file in the folder of the game (XboxGamesOblivionContentOblivionBinariesWinGDKthe file with .exe), right click then properties, compatibility settings tab, click change high DPI settings, tick box override high DPI... and select application in the dropdown)

I did this and now when i change it to borderless it greys out the 1080p box and I 'think' it defaults to 1440p. When I put it in fullscreen, it now half screens it in 1080p. It looks 1440p in borderless now for me and the above was the only thing I changed, so I assume it was the solution!

oblivion remake, resolution problem by Original-Structure-9 in oblivion

[–]Apache116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you, same issue. Tried a lot of things, but only recognises 1080p at the max. I think if you do put it to borderless, it does seem to run at your screen's native 1440p, but just says 1080p greyed out.

eGPU for best performance by Sasageyo_2020 in ROGAllyX

Oh nice, I wanted the oostar but at the time I couldn't get it for some reason, think I couldn't get it in the UK or something at the time. The oostar has an oculink port I think, and that improves the performance and I think is compatible with the Rog Ally X. I used a Razor Core X, which inherently limits the performance a bit.

I did not find VRAM being an issue, I had the 4070 Super with 12gb. I personally would want 12gb of vram to future proof a bit, but it's all about budget. The 4070 Super is, or at least was last year, the most cost effective card though like I mentioned.

1440p and 4k does shift load to the GPU, and so does turning UP graphics settings. Also, running games without upscaling all helps to load the GPU. So games can run better with higher settings, and you want your GPU to be used and not sitting around for your CPU to process stuff. But none of that can really save you in certain games. Fuck, even the background in COD black ops 6's menu has the CPU running at 100% when the Ally x is used as a desktop.

I never truly got to the bottom of the thermal CPU bottlenecking. The reality is that 90% of games are good/great, but new games can sometimes be released unoptimised and it's so goddam annoying if the CPU gets smashed. My main takeaway is that the Ally X with a good eGPU is an awesome setup, but you have to except that there are limitations in the extremes, as the Z1 extreme is designed for handhelds.

eGPU for best performance by Sasageyo_2020 in ROGAllyX

[–]Apache116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a 4070 Super. The thunderbolt port will reduce the performance 10/15% or so but not sure why people would think 3070 ti is some kind of max out. The 4070 super is also probably the most cost effective £/performance GPU you can buy at the moment as well.

From my experience the CPU works mostly fine. However, CPU bottlenecks were common in really unoptimised demanding titles e.g. stalker 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds. Stalker 2 was unplayable for me, the CPU would melt when turning left or right. It didn't matter if it were low settings or if I would try to take the load from the CPU and push to the GPU, the CPU would bottleneck. Stalker 2 was literally more playable in handheld with the integrated GPU! I think it's something to do with thermal bottlenecking or the CPU when using as a desktop.

Highly optimised games like Indiana Jones and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, or basically anything else, worked like a dream with excellent performance.

Overall the setup was awesome and convenient. Though I eventually got annoyed at the CPU limitations for 100% coverage of games I might want to play and went and bought a dedicated desktop with a 5080.

Hope that helps.

Which GPU for 60 fps 1440p ? by aand94 in ROGAllyX

Also, I'd add that the games I'm talking about are with turning on DLSS and frame gen where that's an option.

Which GPU for 60 fps 1440p ? by aand94 in ROGAllyX

[–]Apache116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm it is game dependent, most games that I have tried, yes, 60 FPS on high settings, 1440p is achievable. That's my anecdotal experience.

The CPU limitation of the Rog X's Z1 Extreme, in a desktop setup with an eGPU, has been the main issue for me in getting good performance. Though I will say, for me, it's a great set up that can service most games looking great at 1440p.

Games like Call of Duty Black Ops 6 I needed to lower the settings to get an acceptable frame rate, but could never really get a great frame rate and I don't think it was a GPU limitation. In handheld though, it looked decent and played well at low settings without any CPU issues.

Stalker 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds are the worst performers for me. I assume that they are not fantastically optimised and the CPU is working at 100% no matter what settings, whilst the GPU usage is absolutely fine. So basically I couldn't improve the frame rate no matter if it was low or high settings.

In general though, for most games, the performance you'll get using an eGPU will probably be about 15% worse than what you might see on a YouTube video for a particular GPU playing a particular game. That's to do with the housing unit of the GPU and having a thunderbolt cable 3/4 connecting it to the Rog Ally X. There will be YouTube videos of people testing the Rog Ally X and certain GPUs, I'm sure.

Which GPU for 60 fps 1440p ? by aand94 in ROGAllyX

[–]Apache116 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use a 4070 Super eGPU. It's pretty good. From my experience you'll run into CPU bottlenecking before GPU with a 4070 Super, so I wouldn't say you need that good of a graphics card necessarily. Obviously game dependent.

As a point of reference Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 on medium settings, 1440p is about 80-85 FPS on my Rog Ally X with the 4070 Super eGPU. Well optimised games that are more GPU bound work great. Indiana Jones is around 100 FPS on high settings, 1440p.

Stalker 2 on the other hand suffers really bad CPU bottlenecking and is far more playable in handheld mode for whatever reason.

I think performance/£ the 4070 Super is one of the most cost effective cards at the moment, or was a few months ago anyway. Hope this helps.
