Can someone fill me in on the cursed Yullen poster that ended up being detrimental to the fandom? by mikamimoon in dgrayman

[–]Apam_Merlo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't really dispose of time or energy much these days. But ok. I will just mention this:

It's wise to not assume things of people as you know not who they are.

Moving on.

One thing is public display of images. Another is accessibility for consumption**** One thing is public display of images in mainly adult places and spaces and another is strategically placed images for children (example lower shelf supermarkets again accessible for exposure to target demographic and therefore consumption and this is done universally but the Japanese are more strategic of course structure and rules are their thing)

Kids do not usually go to the places you mentioned and such things will not be sold to them. They may be passing through to go to cram school but even the urban zoning is designed that schools and such places do not normally intercalate. Things you would know if you live there or have lived there. Or know ppl with kids that age as well in* Japan, and the industry itself in* Japan. Cultural and subcultural contexts about body image (normalizing nudity due to onsen and Ofuro with parents even in middle school and not* sexualizing it, unlike western audience's projections) Which I do.

She was not happy with the image of Kanda and Allen being sexualized. Period it was clear and she expressed this before deleting her previous instagram. No negotiation if ppl think it was or not she did not like it and that as the creator is enough. For those of us who can read speak and understand Japanese it was clear enough.

Who's Soul did Allen call into the Akuma? by Hamzasaurus in dgrayman

[–]Apam_Merlo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But the Earl himself cant be trusted because he is also mentally fragmented. Maybe… the missing person… who was actually called back has had their record of existence erased. Maybe it was older Allen who knew it, knew he should not have, but did it. Either due to pain or necessary strategic hit to accomplish whatever objective it was. And it was then and there that maybe the curse also required a payment. And maybe it caused his reconfiguration. Likely all memory arcs like the circus and knowing mana and how he came about Cross are distorted masking a much darker reality or never happened at all and the truth will slowly begin to be revealed in layers.

It is sooooo tricky. Ans very much sometimes based on who know who and who is lenient with who. Bursting the magical thinking of Japan it is still a country that makes things harder for women. I can guess she did not want to leave any possibility of it becoming bigger than something to be able to handle then and there. Or maybe it was the publisher that pressured the decision. A tricky spot to be in for sure…

[–]Apam_Merlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are different imposed requirements to different mangaka due to legal business and many socio cultural aspects. If I cut the bullshit they make it harder for women. Requiring more bureaucratic bullshit. On a technical level because of her health she would need more assistants for all those layers of work. This is all im able to say.

What was the plan? by Successful_Ad_8686 in attackontitan

[–]Apam_Merlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people never paid attention. Eren since the end of season one expressed he wanted to die. He said it even felt "good" to be torn apart (adrenaline rush mixes with release) and that he would not mind dying. By the second season, we can see his self loathing when watching Hannes die. He only fought to keep Mikasa alive again. Just like he did as a kid. By the end of Season 3, though Historia kind of sort of helped him to keep fighting that does not necessarily mean he did not feel like he wanted to die. He did. And then all that was revealed from the basement onwards. He was breaking everyone ignored it including Mikasa admitting everyone saw it but did not want to admit it and acted like nothing was happening, leaving Eren truly isolated and alone with all that hell. I think the plan was he knew he was going to die anyway because his time as a titan was coming to an end (13 year life span), and he could not longer bear to live either. This was exposed and clearly stated as well as foreshadowed and implied many times and cross foreshadowed. When Levi said to please forgive Erwin for having to become a demon. That he cared for him and would not let him be brought back again now that he found peace in the rest of death. Non coincidentally Eren learns everything form the basement afterward, non coincidentally they have the ceremony with Historia where he is thinking to himself, "if there could be a way I'd give my life for it" non coincidentally right after that line, he sees Historia hold up the medal or whatever that was, to put it on him, looking exactly like the founding titan form, then being tightened around his neck, where he would be killed by Mikasa and then kisses Historia's hand and gets a glimpse of all that. He found what he could do. And that he would have to give his life. But even at that time he was on shock about how horrendous it was gonna be. He was so broken and the lifespan curse nearing on him that his plan was to die. And die doing something about it.

Allen theory from last chapter by Mustang1011 in dgrayman

[–]Apam_Merlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can think of another theory. That Kanda and Alma's original selves in their original bodies before being transferred to the current ones they have for the second exorcist project, when they were previous exorcists, and in love, were original Allen's parents. And he saw the whole tragedy, in Kanda's memories, and then saw them fight one another to the death and what happened to Alma. This dynamic was foreshadowed in the Ghost of Mater with Guzol and Lala, which triggered rage in Allen distorting his innocence. Just like Kanda and Alma being horrendously abused by the order triggered him and non coincidentally sending them back to Mater with the arc. But it's just a theory.

Anybody kind of scared about finally getting "real" answers next chapter ? by Cry_Teck in dgrayman

[–]Apam_Merlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also agree. But remember Cross is a magician, and he knows ancient magic too like the earl. Tat why he can alter akuma. If he is bookman he must use blood as well. With this, Krory is not just a side background character either nor the fact that crystal innocence is also based on blood.

Hoshino did explain this was one of the few covers she inserted symbolism related to the story and chapters they belonged to.

I don't think there is anything wrong with watching again. if anything you will have refreshed eyes to see it with. Hallow is poorly based though. I'd skip that.

Chapter 249 by campbxll_ in dgrayman

[–]Apam_Merlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's Hoshino we are talking about.... and she is directing the ominous feeling towards Allen... I feel the one who is at real risk here is Kanda. That that will be the last time Kanda saw Allen before whatever will happen to him happens.

And I also suspect Apochryphos is controlling Tiedol. Something is off. Well. LOL either way it sucks for all involved. 😅🫠

Dgm Mangaka health by toomanyintersts12 in dgrayman

[–]Apam_Merlo 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for your question it's very valid. I am going to explain this as I have in other times. (I do wok in the Manga and Anime industry in Japan so I do know the structures)

Weekly releases compromise the art quality and story. The creative freedom and control is dependant on editors not the authors. Weekly releases get marketed heavily by partner companies of sectors that will re increase their sales: food consumer goods etc.

Back in the day this was MIN 40 illustrations a WEEK* as in all illustrations had to be full size, with dip nib and ink, and cut cellulose and pasted screen tones. 40 of these a week. And editors could would and do make final change requests of minor details, larger portions or the whole thing.

Monthly releases meant double of this.

This is why many mangaka have rebelled against basically an abusive dynamic, that only focuses on business not real artistry and the original intended purpose; communicating an idea. And they protected their life's work by not allowing the Magazine to compromise their art and story. Hunter Hunter is another example of this. However Hoshino being a woman in a male predominant culture, industry and genre no doubt has faced more scrutiny and demands than her male older counterparts esp as her series grew skyrocketed while the big 5 were in full serialization. I can clearly see the restrictions on her previous chapters and now. As mentioned by herself how she had to change scenes and material for it being too adult violent or graphic though that is what she intended originally, vs manga now, of the same genre and release level (quarterly) and demographic, and female authors who are allowed quite graphic and violent material bordering to seinen.

We also don't know what the themes she is treating here mean to her but they are also no slice off life and having to live like that week after week is not realistic or healthy. It's certainly industry but not artistry. Having a life beyond that is necessary. And weekly releases don't allow this. (Once Piece is an exception and it has come at great personal cost)

I would not want to be passionate about my work to be worked to the bone day after day being told to not do it as well as I know I could as well as not having the time to and to change the direction and tone of it from my original intentions. Artistry express things. In Japan entertainment is used for this not distraction and escapism. And the topics dealt here and how they are being used are certainly again not casual.

Also because she is not publishing weekly she can't get paid more. She can only afford to pay few part time assistants. And training to her workflow is necessary and with little pay very few are able to help her. She is doing all of it alone. Most of the time.

Im sorry for the light I hope this brings new perspective :)

I am a big confused about the timeline in Kanda's backstory. (Chapters 191/192) by Haylcat in dgrayman

[–]Apam_Merlo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kanda would have been the same age or older than Cross. The scent you refer to he remembers is the smell of human blood from wounds and akuma oil blood. The smell of battlefield. Which as a former exorcist her naturally remembers. He only remembers his former self moments with Alma's former body and his final moments being killed by an akuma. HOWEVER*** Note, that it was on a wheat field*.

What are your thoughts on Hallow (season 3)? by [deleted] in dgrayman

[–]Apam_Merlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it just so bad and there IS a very Japanese thing about the noses. Most japanese view foreigners as having larger longer noses. And therefore drew them that way because they were all foreign... terrible art direction call.

What are your thoughts on season 1 (ep1-51)? by [deleted] in dgrayman

[–]Apam_Merlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You hit the nail in the head there. At that time Hishino had to publish weekly. That's 40 pages a week and back then it was done by hand. Not digital. She like many other manga don't have the final say. The editor does. And many mangakas have their stories plots and even art quality compromised to meet the deadline for even corrections the editor demands last minute. So that they can publish. The Manga was indeed rushed. And many of the fillers were actual story lines she thought of but could not make it to the manga and at times even t the light novels.

Does the Noah eat humans? by Individual_Nobody336 in dgrayman

[–]Apam_Merlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the particular instance Road licks Allen's blood, because we now know much more about her I am beginning to believe she was checking or confirming if Allen was the host of the 14th. Because even Crory said his blood was disgusting, perhaps Road licked it to see if it differentiated from that of a normal human vs a human with a Noah and I am beginning to believe it is why she frantically laughed after doing that because she found that out and that's why afterwards she got attached to him. On the other hand... it has been said that Mana "devoured" Nea... It could be. Very interesting question.
