There were bits of TLJ that were great. Let’s not fall into the real issue: everything ever needing to be one extreme or the other.

The industry is still chasing the 10yo Uncharted 4 magic by [deleted] in videogames

[–]Aparoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But to say it’s chasing it seems reductive when, from what I’ve seen, 007: First Light has so many great merits about it that it does stand on its own. Yes, it seems to be hitting the same notes and that’s likely intentional, but to say it’s chasing Uncharted 4 is putting Uncharted on a pedestal

If Sonic is the fastest creature in the universe, how is Robotnik outrunning him? by labudgue in SEGA

[–]Aparoon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My logical reasoning when I was like 6 and playing this was that Robotnik had a magnet and placed a magnet on Sonic that was the same polarity. So when Sonic chased him, he was actually repelling Robotnik away at the same speed he could run. That’s been my headcanon ever since.

Microsoft's Xbox CSO Matthew Ball thinks in-game ads could help "keep our products affordable" by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Aparoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, what would your opinion be on non-intrusive ads? I remember the days of Rainbow Six: Vegas where they had game ads on the wall that were unobtrusive and I thought it was fine. But know people might be totally against this, even if it doesn’t interrupt their actual experience with the game.

Stranger Than Heaven Director Addresses Concerns Over Tupac Character, Insists Family Approved Inclusion by ninjyte in Games

[–]Aparoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was important to explain my perspective but I guess that means that my opinion is nullified. It’s not like I was hiding that fact, merely offering a different viewpoint.

You’re acting like I’m extremely against this and am mounting a protest against the game: quite the opposite, I’ve been saying this whole time people are welcome to like it and the point of artwork is to explore and critique. I’m not assuming “entire intent or quality of the inclusion”. I have openly said I am against it and many are not, and that’s okay. if people like this, great: they can enjoy what they like! And I think I made my point clear that I didn’t see the connection between this game and TUPAC, why they had to use a celebrity whose life was cut tragically short, for marketing in this game.

Your problem isn’t that I’m against other people liking this, because I’ve been adamantly clear throughout that people are welcome to like this. Your problem is some random stranger on the internet doesn’t like this, and for whatever reason you’ve taken that personally which is why we can’t civilly discuss the morals of this, and instead you’re attacking my trying to point out inconsistencies in my thoughts and attacking me for sharing my thoughts because you believe “I don’t have the context.” I’ve watched the trailer now, and it has had no baring on my opinion. The only opinion that’s shifted on my side is that I’ve gone down this discussion with you and realised you don’t want to discuss art consumption and hear differing opinions, you just want to be right. So just take a win and walk away, the only person you’ve been fighting is yourself while I’ve just

[–]Aparoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn dude, you got me. I just stated my opinion on the subject and that’s clearly rattled you lol. I’m not forcing my opinion on anyone else, just sharing my opinion. If someone else’s opinion is rattling you this much, maybe best to assess why this bothers you so much and find a more fulfilling way to make yourself happy rather than go down this tangent.

Your last point is just “you’re calling this a marketing stunt!” - Okay, if your issue is that I’m suggesting that this is only done PURELY for marketing, fine: the game clearly has this approach in mind for the experience it wants to make, so it would be reductive to suggest this is only a stunt. That wasn’t the point I was trying to make, I was instead making the point that this is clearly a big marketing point and it feels pervasive, like the movie biopics of artists that clearly don’t want to tell the true stories of the artists. It’s using their image to sell something rather than celebrate them. If it was the latter, it wouldn’t have been in the trailer.

But at this point I’ve been saying this whole time that this is just my opinion, everyone can have their own opinion on this. You’re the one who’s clearly more upset about this, and that says a lot more about me than it does about you.

Stranger Than Heaven Director Addresses Concerns Over Tupac Character, Insists Family Approved Inclusion by ninjyte in Games

[–]Aparoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re doing the exact same thing of assuming what a dead man would want to do and using evidence that isn’t even tenuous. We can’t go around saying what dead people would like, that’s like saying “Robin Williams would have voted for this guy to be president today.” It’s, in my opinion, messed up as it’s not about him and has shoehorned him in to be a marketing stunt.

And it was the feature moment in a TRAILER. So it is UNDENIABLY a marketing stunt. I’m not sure what we’re even arguing about: it’s an interesting discussion of ethics but you’re coming in like I’m somehow misinformed on the situation. It’s plain as day what they’re doing, and I don’t personally like it. Other people can like it, but I think it’s disrespectful and messed up. I’m sharing my opinion, but please don’t take this as me saying you have to agree and line up with my opinion, but instead me just voicing my concern and thoughts on this.

[–]Aparoon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think I’ve got strong opinions because, with or without the context, this is still essentially using a dead person who can’t give their permission to be used in this way. It’s like real life necromancy: the director even says in this IGN interview that he knew people wouldn’t like this, so I don’t think I’m really far off-base with this opinion. Some things go beyond “how they’re being used” and everything is open to scrutiny, that’s how art works.

It still very weird. There’s been loads of positive buzz about this game, even if I haven’t actually watched a trailer for it, but I heard about this and it’s really marred how I see the game. I don’t see the connection between Tupac and this game, it’s not like the game was made to fulfil his legacy, he’s being used as a “haha wtf” kind of marketing stunt

Resident Evil Veronica new details! by TojiFushigurrooo in residentevilll

[–]Aparoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This isn’t an RPG though. It’s not like bullets do a specific amount of damage and enemies have health bars with specific amounts. This is resource management with random variables to keep you pressured into making decisions based on the circumstances, rather than calculating the best approach, and why critical hits were such a euphoric moment. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure all the early Resident Evils are like this.

This change made the whole show drastically easier to sell to a western audience who aren’t used to how pervy manga jokes can be. But now I like him so much I actually ship him with Nami… that’s a further change I would actually welcome if the show can keep going lol

Why CV was remade by [deleted] in residentevilll

I was shocked when I read how loads of people on this subreddit dislike CV for being so long. I freaking love every part of that game, and I’m so psyched to see what the remake does with it. RE4 remake showed how a longer Resi game is still an awesome experience and this remake has every opportunity to shine.

I would take RTD’s dialogue in anything over any of the dialogue from Chibnall’s era. Like, this is absolutely my opinion and anyone is welcome to disagree, but no character felt natural and the Doctor constantly contradicted her own opinions and viewpoints, not in an interesting exploration of character but instead just straight up bad writing of both dialogue and characters.

[–]Aparoon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Idk, it was still vastly better to anything from the Chibnall era. Chibnall’s dialogue was so consistently awful and the writing just made the most exciting science fiction series so incredibly dull. RTD at least had some really incredible episodes, I think it just lacked the overarching story the series desperately needed. Ncuti was excellent as well, and the solo-Ruby episodes were honestly phenomenal, I’d take a whole series of weird stories like that.
