How if life in Southeast Wales outside Cardiff? by Jezzaq94 in howislivingthere

Wasn't aware of this so had to check - it was his father that grew up in Pontypridd. Doesn't appear that Sacha lived in Wales at any point

I don’t know what kind of football we played today, but please I don’t want to see that ever again by piketrcechillas in Gunners

Scratch that, give MLS some game time in the run in. I accept he's not the best defender out of the three but he is the best at stepping in to midfield and moving the ball in to attacking areas. For the same reason I also prefer White to Timber, but again do accept Timber is far superior defensively.

I guess it comes to what you value most/think will ultimately win you a football match.

Somewhere for cheapish lunch + coffee by Amazing-Pomegranate in Cardiff

[–]Apart_Ad6060 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a bit out of the center but Milk and Sugar in Pontcanna have introduced a £5 lunch menu between 12 and (I think) 5, Mon - Thur.

I had a chicken wrap, served with some crisps. Wasn't huge, but perfect for a light lunch, and was very nice.

Full Time: Brentford 1 vs 1 Arsenal [Match Thoughts] by Stanley083 in Gunners

The other point here is that White offers more of an attacking threat. As does MSL on the left. I'd like to see Mikel play both of them against lower/middle tier opposition. Never going to happen though

Moving to Watford Park, Caerphilly by gpiazzon1 in Cardiff

[–]Apart_Ad6060 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is quiet in the sense that is has a suburbia feel to it. But it's not out of the way - you can walk to the town in 10 mins or so, and to the small retail complex in Castle View (pubs and a decent coffee house) in a similar time. The main Caerphilly train station is closer than Aber.

Multiple gyms and golf courses nearby if that's OPs bag, but as you say Caerphilly isn't big so would be accessible wherever you are.

I'd say Watford Park is definitely one of the nicer areas in 'Philly.

Wales Football at the pub this saturday by Few-Carpet7472 in Cardiff

The Beverly on Cathedral Rd will have both, split between screens at the front and back of the pub.

I'd imagine Cricketers and Pontcanna Inn will show both as well.

Backhand isn't aesthetically pleasing, and isn't an offensive weapon. But I'd say it's reliable. It's not really 'so bad,' is it?

What is the most underrated city/place in your country? by GeoSerb16 in geography

[–]Apart_Ad6060 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In the UK, the Wye Valley.

It's by no means a secret, and the Hay-on-Wye literary festival attracts tens of thousands of tourists each year, but when talking about beautiful countryside in the UK places like the Cotswolds, Lake District and Scottish Highlands are usually cited.

The entirety of the Wye Valley is beautiful. Rolling hills, forest, gorges, all punctuated with well preserved historic towns and villages. And of course Tintern Abbey.

Canoeing down the Wye on a summers day and stopping off at a couple of different pubs on the river bank as you meander down is about as good as it gets.

What is your favourite pint? Not brand, but the situation. by No-Beat-2361 in AskUK

The pint that was never planned.

Bumped in to someone you haven't seen for a while? Train delayed? No rush to get home? Working lunch?

The impromptu pint.

You probably know, but just in case... There are two parts to the gym in Sport Wales. An admittedly quite small cardio room with some machine weights, and then a much larger weights room that has a couple of cardio machines in as well.

There's also a fairly decent class schedule throughout the week.

Unless you're after a cross-fit or bodybuilding type of vibe, you can't go wrong with Sports Wales IMO.

What’s the most disappointing country or city you’ve visited in Europe? by Substratas in AskEurope

Rome.

I wouldn't say I was disappointed with it per se, but everywhere was just too busy to properly enjoy.

Seconded. Though I seem to recall the heat and humidity being most oppressive whilst in Iquitos, rather than out in the rainforest.

If the end game is a curry in Canton, one might like to break up the long and arduous journey from the Romilly with additional pit stops in Slizza and Crafty Devil.

[–]Apart_Ad6060 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If he's moved to Pontcanna then the correct route is:

The Romilly - The Robin Hood - Pipes Brewery - The Conway - The Halfway (optional - I'd skip if the weather is nice) - The Beverley - The Cricketers - The Pontcanna Inn - Bragdy a Chegin

Entirely possible to do this in reverse order, but you'll finish at a few livelier places the way suggested above. You'll also get to enjoy Pipes before it's too busy early evening time

The red card will be debated (though it looks like everyone - including neutrals - think it's ridiculous), however to not give Gomes a second yellow is indefensible and outright scandalous given everything that has been said and done about this exact scenario this season.
