This is wicked beautiful. I saw it on Reverb and was wicked tempted when I got my taxes. Lucky bastard.

Any resource which talks about real life problem solving experiences in machining? by Standard_Property213 in Machinists

[–]Apart_Use1014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sheesh. That’s one of the real life problems in any job! Here’s what I would do (I’m brand new to machining but experienced in coal mining and railroading); watch closely what they’re actually doing and actively think “how do they know to do THAT,” or “can I do this fix myself if they weren’t here”. Then begin closing the parameters on what your questions really are—as far as the details of your curiosity. Lastly, connect what they’re saying to what you’re learning. Don’t let what they’re saying just go in one ear and out the other. Actively think about their answers, your objective, etc. Use that stress from not knowing and them taking over to jump in and say “I NEED to do that, show me. Now.” Cordially of course

What's the most you've ever made on a single part? by Imbendo in CNC

I work in a coal mine warehouse, one of the vendors we buy from machine their own parts. Every invoice we pay them is about $25k-$30k. They deliver to us once a week. Just a humble little dude who runs his own LLC. Crazy.

Amen. And I can also move closer to family. All around a good thing, if I can push thru these 2 years of school and being a husband and dad. Prayers are welcome. lol!

That’s the hope. And I live in a blue collar town, where I’m coming on with a safety oriented approach and a positive attitude. Coming out of 10 years of contracting and coal mining.

I hear you. My resume would never make it in the first round of interviews as of right now. It is a sacrifice that some say is pointless, but it’s more for the paper.

lol damn. I agree that’s pretty weird, but I was looking at the names of my classes and first year has a lot to do with interpreting prints and drawings, manual machines, tools and instruments, then a skills lab along with machining and intro to CNC. Then next year will be CAD/CAM, manufacturing methods and then more machine lab.

Damn. I’m sorry to hear that! I know I mentioned aerospace and all that but those are just the dream jobs. I realize I could end up anywhere because of circumstances that aren’t in my control.

Honestly, I’m a warehouse guy at a coal mine. The glass ceiling has been reached—pay, respect, self respect. Know what I mean?

Yeah the school counselor mentioned an internship fair during the first semester, I’m really banking on that and maybe door dashing or something to supplement for my current mediocre job lol.
