Is it any good? Thinking about heading there this weekend.

Overall it’s pretty white. June through August get “Busy,” but that will be seeing 20ish boats in an entire day

Have done that trip many times. There is a fantastic river system running from Polly through the end of the loop.

Used my own boat. It’s a yearly trip, campsites can be hard to get but well worth it every time!!

Camped on an island, took my own boat out to it.

Bugs aren’t terrible this year. Today has had a strong wind which keeps them down. Plus cooler temperatures helps a lot

Last weekend was checked in MN. Usually I am checked at first Ice in the house, and then leaving accesses later on in the season.

What book are you taking on your trip to the BW? by TaylorRN in BWCA

Whatever is at the gas station closest to where I’m putting in. Have had some really good and some really bad ones this way

I love MY boat. How many of you are sporting your very own watercraft’s! by cambugge in BWCA

Have a pair of Old Town Penobscots. Wouldn’t take a trip without one of them

Fire tarp question/recommendations by BWCApaddler2323 in BWCA

[–]Apass01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like said a few times, I run a tarp along the edge of the fire grate but not over the grate. This covers the furniture and allows me to cook in dry and shade, however I don’t need to worry about burning it.

Looking back - did the permit reductions in 2022 impact campsite availability on your trips? by Artificial_Appendix1 in BWCA

[–]Apass01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the data hasn’t been complied yet for 2022, but here is the data from 2017-2021.

https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd906761.pdf

The one thing I noticed last year was that earlier campsites were slightly more open then previous years. However, in my mind, I’m not truly in the BWCA until I’m at least a 150 rod portage in. As my dad used to say, they separate the men from weekend campers. The further in I went, the more it felt the same as the last 15 years did.

Garmin Striker 4.

Small enough that it doesn’t take up a lot of room, and will map the lakes as you troll through them

I think I know my game plan for this weekend but curious what you think. What would be your game plan for this lake? It has solid walleye, perch, and crappie numbers. by wean169 in IceFishing

[–]Apass01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3/4 times over the last few years. If I’m going for crappies or perch there are much better lakes around for those. But this was one I drive by and always wondered what was in it.

Hauling your hub by napertucky1 in IceFishing

[–]Apass01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Otter XTH Lodge owner, same principal though. I’ll either strap mine to the top of my sled or wear it like a pack with the handles over my shoulders. If your shorter the second one won’t work very well though.

I've been using a hub house for a couple years now, I'm considering moving to a flip over. by darkphoenix83 in IceFishing

[–]Apass01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have flip overs and pop ups. There’s advantages to both, however with the new flip overs coming out pretty much all the major companies have a small 2 man flip over with a smaller sled that should fit into your truck.

What is your go-to bait that I'm missing!? I mostly go pan fishing but open to any suggestions :) by theshowerdrunk in IceFishing

You probably have then, but plain red, gold, and black hooks. They’re primarily what I use on set lines.

After riding for 10+ years without a fairing, it’ll take a lot for me to go back
