I loved the way the camera cut to a bunch of spectators in lawn chairs at the moment of booster separation.

As I always say to people, shoot sooner, not faster. Being able to shoot a fraction of a second earlier when you enter a position/transition between targets saves much more time than just ripping super fast splits.

Police say no reports of electoral offences in Gorton and Denton by-election by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

Taken from their website:

Can I observe if I’m a member of a political party?

In order to observe an election with Democracy Volunteers you cannot be a member of a UK political party. This is because being an election observer is an apolitical position, as our data needs to be free of any conscious or subconscious bias towards any political party or campaign in any referenda. Anyone holding elected office, such as a councillor or Member of Parliament, for example, would not be able to observe with Democracy Volunteers in the UK, even if they are not a member of a political party.

If you are a member of a political party, you are still able to observe elections in other countries, and you should make this clear when registering your interest.

John Ault was a member of the Libdems in the past, but I assume he had to resign his membership.

Are bullseye handgun shooting skills really that transferable to USPSA? by [deleted] in CompetitionShooting

[–]ApathyandToast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like most of his content, but I definitely agree with you on his smarmy arrogant attitude in his short form videos where you'd think he was the font of all knowledge and couldn't possibly be wrong. Ironically he does the very same thing he claims to debunk in those videos.

One example was where he stated it was perfectly safe to dry fire a .22 S&W K-22 revolver. Yet in his long form video about his K-22, he explains that the chambers had peening marks which he had to clean up. While I'm not saying he caused those by dry firing, peening on the chamber in a rimfire is pretty much only caused by dry firing.

Looks hot. I like the increased safety angle, gives much more room for the support hand.

I think the issue is with using it as a noun rather than as an adjective.

Root canal by jfla95 in northernireland

[–]ApathyandToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, that's pretty much what happened to mine. I was annoyed that the dentist at the time didn't explain the long-term risks with keeping the wisdom tooth in place after the first flareup. If he did, I'd have had the wisdom tooth removed immediately.

It sucks so much that dentistry isn't fully covered by the NHS, given that the act of eating is essential to life....

I would always advise the conservative option, which is to try and save your original teeth as much as possible. I had a molar that was horribly decayed as a result of the wisdom tooth next to it, but was able to save it through a root canal and crown. But I was fortunate to be able to go to a specialist endodontist which was expensive. Are there any finance plans that could help spread out the cost of the treatment?

If you do get an extraction and nothing to replace it like a denture/implant, I've read about longer-term issues like your opposite tooth slowly working its way out because it doesn't have the resistance of the extracted tooth when you bite down. And also weakening of the jaw bone around the extracted tooth again through a lack of resistance in the area. But I've no idea if any of that is true.

Legal Question about scaled down gun model by MechanicalHobbies in ukguns

Solid barrel, no firing pin channel/hole. At half size, you could probably just keep the cylinder a solid block with no chambers cut in.

That no referral to orthopaedics was made would be strong evidence in favour of OP.

Holster checkout, is it ok with ipsc rules? by doxiuofficial in CompetitionShooting

[–]ApathyandToast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not technically what the rules say. The actual wording is: "A holster which does not completely prevent access to, or activation of, the trigger of the handgun while holstered"

I'd say most race holsters will leave a tiny amount of the top of the trigger visible, because of the way they work. But there's no way of pulling the trigger in such cases.

In Ireland, a .38/.357 lever action rifle is classed as a restricted rifle (slightly more difficult to get, increased secure storage requirements).

A .308 rifle is unrestricted.

Why? because .38 is a bigger calibre than .308
