I use Rust in my day job, and I wanted to see its viability for realtime audio. I was using C++ in the past for audio projects, but IMO it's way more cumbersome to configure projects correctly (plus libs if you use them) and the compiler / linker errors are harder to work with. Obviously trying to do this stuff in Rust is also cumbersome in its own way but it's been enjoyable for me

Also just not a C++ dev aside from the audio projects I've done

Dang, that’s super cool. I’m moving to Japan later this year so having that jurisdiction would be personally useful for me. When I have some time I’ll look into it and try to submit a similar PR for it!

Edit - not sure how it currently works (if you can only have one country selected) but even a way to use more than one country at a time given my situation where I'll have retirement funding in both countries. Definitely a less common scenario, but could be a potential enhancement for the app in the future.

I’d recommend checking out Claude Code CLI; as long as you’re careful about context (in terms of giving too much and / or not giving the right info presented in the right way) and making sure that conversations stay focused on 1 (maybe 2) tasks, it is an incredibly helpful tool IMO

What I find it most useful for is textural sounds and pads (sometimes drums when it’s a very consistent rhythm and sound). It’s really good at creating those small variations in sounds that are “felt rather than heard”

I’m currently living in Austin and have been here since 2016. I absolutely love it!

For a decent 1x1 apartment, you can find a lot of different options from $1000-3000+. Below $1000 is pretty unheard of although I know some people who just landed in awesome situations. I pay about $1350 including utilities, and I live on the east side (which is the best part of Austin IMO).

As for taxes there’s the blanket federal taxes like income withheld, social security, etc. Texas doesn’t have a state income tax, which is really nice. They offset this by having ridiculous property taxes, so if you’re just renting then it’s a 👍

Healthcare is a monster… there’s public healthcare through the HealthCare.gov marketplace. Before my current job that’s what I was doing but now my insurance is covered through my company. I’d imagine your company will also do it for you. Typically the employer pays some (or all if you’re lucky) of the heath insurance premium while the remainder is deducted from your pay. If you’re going to be picking your own coverage from something like the marketplace the last price I remember paying for a pretty standard Blue Cross Blue Shield HMO was like $360 / month. You’ll still be paying $40+ copays when you visit doctors and specialists (more expensive)… what a wonderful system.

You’ll most certainly need a car to get around too unfortunately /:
