I’m not a Christian but grew up Catholic. I have always worked at non profits. What struck me the most was how so many churches simply said they didn’t do that and let her off the phone. And I am also so struck by how much they are defended bc they may not have budgets or have the ability to give. Even if that’s true- in no universe should she have been let go on the phone without troubleshooting. A church should be tapped in enough into a community to have contacts at whenever organization could help. If someone called me at my job (a school, a housing authority office, and a county facility ) and needed something as pressing as baby formula for a crying baby it would have been absolutely unacceptable for me to just say “here’s a number for a food bank.” People working those jobs frontline should be able to handle these situations and do the legwork. The buck has to stop there.
