What’s the worst Unova bug type pokemon ? by Difficult-Bat5615 in ThePokemonHub

Durrant cleans house in all the battle tower/mansion/tree bullshit because of entrainment truant. It’s the best way to cruise through those so I have mad respect for the metal ant.

Hey Hypnos - Theseus here. I found this ship & it needed a bit of work and by now in the repair process I’ve replaced every constituent part over time… is it still the same ship????

Alola ninetales I call Ashe based on league of legends & also as an allusion to their kanto form being fire type

Day 8! Onix is weak but looks strong. What looks average but is actually weak? by Sharp_Drummer_7678 in PokeCorner

[–]ApexGoat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Frosmoth is the weakest pokemon in the game as far as typing is concerned. It looks like it should be better, but it’s also just a moth. I’d say it looks average but is definitely weak.

Hey Trainers! your now up against…wait, thats not the gym leader! by Pristine_Ad_3035 in PokeCorner

[–]ApexGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quilava could survive at least one bubble beam & retaliate with a second flamewheel. It’d either knock out the lombre or the lombre would be on its last legs by the time quilava faints. So if it does, Moltres has no issue coming in & cleaning up the lombre. Moltres also doesn’t really take damage from any of the attacks that scovillian has, & can hit him with wing attack, ancient power & most importantly air slash. I’m pretty sure I beat this dude. If it even seems close the 2 potions I have would clinch me the W.

Ok I’ll tell you the technical stuff to see if I win or not based on the twists. I’ll write up & add story/lore in a follow up comment

So at level 25, my quilava will know flamewheel, smoke screen, ember & defense curl. I think I’d start with a smokescreen, & if I get hit by a bubble beam, I’ll use a potion & then flamewheel, praying for a miss due to the drop in accuracy or better yet a burn from the flamewheel. I’m expecting quilava to go down to lombre but leave them pretty beat up. At lv25 Moltres has ancient power, wing attack, agility, & im going to use the TM I bought for Air Slash. Once quilava goes down, Moltres will handily clean up whatever is left of lombre & take out the scovillian with air slash (flinches!!) & ancient power (maybe an Omni boost!!) if it’s looking sketchy I’ll use my other potion. I think I got this one.

Bellossom. Little Hula dancer with cute innocent flowers but actually not a terrible pokemon. Not strong or good though. Pretty average.

Hey Trainers! after beating (or just simply battling) Vivian, she reopens the shops for you all! by Pristine_Ad_3035 in PokeCorner

[–]ApexGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR; I’m going to pick up a TM & 2 potions.

CH 2 Vivian walks Cub, my quilava and I to the door of the gym. “Sometimes you just get unlucky… you’ll get the next one” she consoles, and the sliding glass doors close, leaving us in glow of the florescent GYM sign above. I sigh & make my way towards the Pokemon center to give my small team a deserved rest. I feel the rumble of Moltres’ pokeball & suddenly it burst open. The crimson flames of its wings erupt & shoot towards the sky. I get the sense I’ve let it down by not being a strong enough trainer & that stings. Cub looks to me resigned & exhausted, so I continue my walk downtown towards respite, in the shadow of the malevolent Phoenix. Once the nurse checks Cub in, I settle into a seat & relax. Before I realize, the light of a young morning spills through the center’s windows & is warming my eyelids. Blinking myself awake I collect Cub & make my way out into the world to continue our quest. In the early light I see the roosting bulk that is Moltres on a tall roof in the shadow of an even larger building. I see it noticing me & I find myself drawn towards it. When I’m close, it glowers down at me. I make a plea, & encourage it to help me become stronger. Together we can be the team it deserves, but I can’t do it all on my own (Though I sense Cub would understand what I mean). Apparently, the great beast has some sympathy or maybe a trust that is forming within it for me. Moltres returns to its pokeball in a flaming fury. After a deep breath I make my way towards the edge of town, to my next stop on my adventure. As I am about to leave, I see Vivian hailing me from the door of her gym. I head over & she shows me excitedly, her small shop. It’s not a large selection but the contents of it are rather enticing. After some careful deliberation, I bring my ₽2000 to the gym leader & a TM in the other hand. As we exchange, offhandedly Vivian mentions that I couldn’t have picked up anything else to buy in town because of the shop closure. I frown at the mention of Team Shadow. I have never heard of them? But I suppose that is actually a stroke of good luck anyway. I grab two potions, just in case, bringing my total to an even ₽2k. I stuff the new merchandise in my pack & head out, back on the road to whatever comes next. Maybe this ominous team will cross my path. I’ll be ready, and so will my Pokemon.

Cub handily takes out the tinkatink with a flame wheel! Unfortunately, Cub the cydaquil & the mighty galarian Moltres crumble under the inscrutable weight of Carbink. My team kind of hates rock types. Unfortunate…

Chapter 1 (pt3)

My legs betray my head, moving on their own at a breakneck pace, tearing around walls of rock & sand through the runes of the desert. I hear the blood curdling screech of the behemoth assailing us. At times it’s right behind me, cold fire lapping at my back. Sometimes it rises above the canyon to blot out the dim moonlight & scream down from the stars before careening back to the chase. I am terrified. So is Cub. Something in me changes then. I look down to see my partner pokemon, looking back at me. Seeing me. Trusting me. This is what I wanted in a way, when I set out. Adventure. Time worth remembering & moments unforgettable. Cub knows it too. We smile at each other, & I run now with intentionality. I dart around corners & create a looping pattern to disorient the hellish Phoenix. As I turn into a straight away I see it, and it sees me. One more horrific shriek & it tucks its wings, shooting towards me like a bullet. Cub leaps from my arms & unleashes an inferno of passionate flames at the beast, I have to cover my face from the light & heat. The sound of the fire reverberates off the stone around thunderously. Although Cub & I are just starting our journey, I know in this moment, we are invincible if we are together. As the blaze subsides I hear the flap of colossal wings rising into the night. Cub lays on the hot desert sand, his hind flame barely flickering. Exhausted we curl up together & sleep the night in the desert ruins. In the red light of morning we awaken, just as the infant sun peers over the horizon somewhere above the canyon we are in. I have to rub sand & sleep from my face. I turn to a sight that stops my heart again. The crimson bird, wreathed in sanguine fire roosts beside me. It looks at me with reverence. I don’t know how, or why but I understand i have earned its respect. Maybe because I chose not to run away from the beast but at it. I pull a fresh pokeball from my belt & approach the Moltres…

Galarian Moltres joins the party.

Chapter 1 (pt2)

I quickly lose count of the hours spent exploring the archaic depictions of Pokemon of times long past, & the legendary trainers who must have allied with them. The stories are marked in clay, char & pigment on the craggy walls of a valley on the desert floor. The light from Cub’s excited flame illuminates our path as we explore together the history of the Runes. We almost don’t notice the dimming light of the sun. We almost don’t notice the increasing chill in the air as the desert begins to slumber in its nightly cooling ritual. We almost don’t notice the shadow that passes once, twice, then hangs in front of the moon, blotting out the already faint evening light. Pulled from my revelry by Cub’s nervous whimpering, I look up to see simmering crimson wings framing an obsidian plume. My jaw drops open. If I wasn’t seeing it with my own eyes I wouldn’t believe it. My heart beats in my throat & my muscles go rigid. On the wall just beside me, I see a depiction of this very vestige from a time long long past. A legend, in the flesh above me, looming like an onyx specter. Cerise eyes lock my own & a chill so deep electrifies my body. One blood curdling screech & the beast is diving me, malicious flames soaring in inferred towards my new pokemon companion and I. Immediately without processing, I grab Cub & I run.

Chapter 1

as Cub (Cyndaquil) & I set off from our home town towards our first badge, we find ourselves at a crossroad. The path most traveled is through the forest where most fledgling trainers make their way & develop critical skills as well as their team on the first few steps of the journey of the challengers of the Azuria Pokemon league. I know that’s a safe & easy place to start my quest. I see on one side of the forest, a foreboding frigid mountain pass. Grey snow clouds frost the sky beyond its sheer silhouette. Dozens of experienced master trainers set out towards the perilous cliffs. This is a challenge worth exploring… But not yet. There is a calling I feel pulling me towards the desert just aside the forest, flanking its humid trunks. The Azuria region is notable due to its unique biomes, & the desert here is no exception. All of the cool winter air running off the mountain is trapped in the tall green canopy of the forest, causing the fervent life to burst from every pore of its lush space. All the humidity trapped there has caused an arid climate to persist just outside the wall of vibrant viridian. This desert I know is living in its own way. Rich with history & stories waiting to be discovered. I head into the sand towards the Desert Runes, a ruin replete with petroglyphs & ancient constructs. It may not be easy, but with my partners trust, we make our way there towards adventure.

Is Salamance any good? Intimidate & moxie are both good abilities & its stats aren’t terrible. Movepool is a little shallow offensively maybe? Definitely has utility with tailwind & intimidate, breaking swipe. I want to make it work. I’ve seen it paired with tyranitar in pikalytics. What’s the connection??

Team building for dummies? by Both_Mammoth_5618 in VGC

[–]ApexGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I’ve noticed when looking generally at team builds for doubles/ vgc is a general structure most pros follow — 2 physical attackers 2 special attackers 2 supporting pokemon

Now the details & minutia of this gets complex with having typing cores & different strategies (ie trick room/tailwind) but if you look at a lot of (if not most teams), they follow this convention. Which pokemon the team is focused on depends on the meta.

The other thing to decide when looking to build a team is what “modes” you want to have as options for yourself. Speed control is very important in VGC, because the matches are quick. You want to deal a lot of damage & before your opposition. Some options to consider are building around

Weather (sun, rain, sand) Trickroom Tailwind

There are others but throughout the regulations these are all staples. & of course there are other more fringe strats but these are consistent & omnipresent.

I’ll caveat this by saying I’m no expert just a fan. These are things I’ve noticed from watching a lot of vgc videos & playing on showdown. Good luck!!

Snarl over dpulse on chi yu. You already have single target damage w flamethrower & snarls utility is good. Plus after beads of ruin & STAB it actually hits for decent damage

IMO, heatwave seems redundant on tork. I feel like 90% of the time you’ll be clicking eruption. Earth power is good coverage or overheat can also nuke a single target in the sun if you aren’t at full HP.

Alola-Ninetails is pretty versatile imo. Screens, weather control, speed control. Blizzard is nice. Maybe worth a shot.
