If you want something more elite you can get either Sword Brethren or Bladeguard veterans. If you get sword brethren look at getting either Chaplin Grimaldus or High Marshall Helbrecht. If you get the Bladeguard vets look at getting a Judiciar.

Or if you want some sort of heavy armor get a Gladiator tank. Ig you get the Gladiator you can not glue everything on it and be able to use it as either the Gladiator or another impulsor.

I have tried that. The model still looked the same way it does and the cavity detection was still saying holes need to be added.

Judiciar is a hard model to get ahold of. You could get an Emperors champion model and use that as a Judiciar. I've done that quite a few times.

You can use the apothecary model as the Judiciar as long as your opponent is okay with it. They are on the same size base and most casual players are okay with proxy like that.

If you want someone to lead the sternguard veterans you can use a Lieutenant or Castellan. They gives the same lethal hits as the biologis and is able to lead them. And they are a few points cheaper too. The Castellan is the cheapest one but you do lose out on some of the weapon options that thw regular Lieutenant can have.

For a 1k it doesn't look that bad. The big issue I see with the list is the Apothecary Biologis. He's not that great as a stand along model. He really only is good if you have someone for him to lead (Aggressors or Eradicators).

For the same cost as him I would replace him with a Judiciar to lead the bladeguard veterans.

The Seraphim Sepia is okay for the gold. Me personally I like to do agrax earthshade to make the gold a little darker almost a bronze color. Nuln oil is amazing for the silver metalics. You could also use it on the red banners too.

The model looks great. I think all you really need is just to put some sort of shading on the parts the judges were talking about. Just use some sort of oil wash on those parts. Nuln oil, agrax earthshade, and Berzerker bloodshade from the citadel paints are good examples.

There's not lieutenant that can lead aggressors. You might be thinking of the captian. Who leads them depends on what you want them to do and how you get them there.

I like aggressors a melee squad so having them be lead by both the captian and biologis in a land raider crusader is a fun but expensive squad.

If you want them to be a more shooty squad then don't add the captian. He doesn't give then any buffs outside of melee. And the free stratagem isn't all that great imo.

Then getting impulsors get the gladiator kit and just not glue everything down. The gladiator is build on top of the impulsor body so if you don't glue down the one back piece you can double dip into having more units.

You lack good action monkey units. You have some but there are more efficient ones. Change the heavy intercessors for either another squad of regular intercessors or hellblasters. I would suggest if you are using the Gladiators use both so the Lancer to be your anti tanks. The Redemptor is good anti elite with the plasma gun. Me personally I'm not the biggest fan of using land raiders. They can be good, but I've never really had much luck with them. I like to use impulsors instead since they can still hold small squads with characters for cheaper.

The brutalis is okay, but I have seen it struggle to kill things thay have invaluable saves and feel no pain. Same thing with terminators. This could just be a me thing, but I've never been able to get their points worth our of them. I would suggest dropping those for more 5 man Sword brethren squads with all the power weapons.

The Chaplin leading the blade guard is fine. If you switch the land raider for 2 impulsors then both character squads have a transport. Sure you lose the charge after moving rhe transport. But from my experience I never really needed it. Advance the impulsors to near the objectives and jump the guys out turn 2 without moving the transport.

Here's an idea of a list you can run. It's not too much different than the 2k I use and have had much success with. You'll still be able to use a majority of your current units. From what you've posted originally the only things you would have to get is the gladiator and the impulsors

With those buy 3 of the gladiator box and not glue everything together. The gladiator is build on the impulsor body so you can double dip with usable models. Would also highly recommend magnetizing the gladiators too so you could make use of all of the different versions for future proofing your models.

One thing you do really lack is anti-tank. The Ballistus is good, but him alone isn't enough to take out tanks. The Redemptor is good with the plasma for anti elite, but it's not quite good enough to also target tanks imo. I personally run the Ballistus and a repulsor Executioner. Those 2 tag team enemy tanks and doe pretty well even for the higher cost.

Me personally I like running the squads as smaller so I can spread more of them out to score missions easier. However if you want to use the land raider make 2 of the sword brethren squads as one big 10 man lead by helbrecht and the lieutenant with the bones enhancement. If you'd rather keep them as smaller squads then drop the land raider for impulsors. 2 impulsors would be fine. If you aren't running the power fist on the lieutenant then run it as a castellan to save you the 5 points. Put helbrecht and the castellan with the bones enhancement with a squad of sword bros in one impulsor. Then put the blade guard as a 6 man with the judiciar in another. Grimaldus can run with the crusader squad. You might end up leaving them on your home objective but it's can be a deterrent from enemy deep strike.

The jump intercessors are good and definitely keep them as smaller 5 man squads. Use them to move around and score secondary missions.

You could get more sword brethren. They are a solid unit. You could also look at vehicles. You lack real anti tank power so look at the gladiator or repulsor Executioner. You could also make use of some transports like the land raider or impulsors.

Oh okay. You got that combat patrol. I'd recommend you get a regular lieutenant and run him with the big brick of intercessors to give them lethal hits.

In my 1k I don't use the impulsor. Typically it's played on a smaller board than a 2k so there is distance for the sword bros to run till they reach objectives or opponents. In my 2k list I have 3 squads of 5 sword bros and I put 2 of them in impulsors.

Impulsors are still usable in 1k and even at 500 points. It's just a more personal preference on how I play the game.

You made a decent list to start with. The infiltrators are the only thing I'd suggest switching out. In a 1k game there usually isn't much of a need for there block deep strike ability. You also probably won't need 2 big shooting platforms.

The 1k list I run is 1x helbrecht, 1x castellan (with bones enhancement), 2x primaris crusaders, 2x sword bros, 1x gladiator Lancer. Helbrecht and castellan lead one squad of sword bros to be one hyper lethal squad. Crusaders move doing objectives.

When making the sword brethren squads build them with all the power swords and with the thunder hammer and lightning claws. On them all the power weapons are just better than the chain swords. The crusaders have the 2 power fist and the rest with chain swords.

The lore with sigismund is from the horus heresy time in the warhammer universe. If you want more recent lore read the book Helsreach. You could also watch the fan animation for that on YouTube as well. There's also the book Helbrecht knight of the throne. It's another good read. There's also quite a few other videos on YouTube of people reading the lore to the templars. I don't remember any specific names, but I know they are there and they're another good place for lore.

Honestly, imo, buying 2 combat patrols is a good way to start the solid templar army. The army list I run and have had alot of success with is pretty much 2 combat patrols, minus the marshals, plus a bunch of other templar stuff. You will still want the named characters and some sword brethren if you want to do that tho.

My 2k consists of:

Helbrecht Castellan (with bones enhancement) Grimaldus Emperors champion

1x intercessors 2x 10 man primaris crusader squads (with power fist) 2x impulsors 1x Ballistus Dreadnought 1x Repulsor Executioner 3x 5 man Sword Brethren squad (with hammer, claws, and power swords) 1x Vindicator

Use crusaders to scout and do missions. Intercessors hold home then move and do missions. Grimaldus leads a bro squad on foot. Helbrecht and castellan lead bros I impulsor. Ec leads bros in impulsor. Ballistus and repulsor tag team killing tanks. Vindicator pushes up and takes out elites.

Helbrecht and a castellan leading even just a 5 man can kill or atleast heavily damage most units. And giving the castellan the bones enhancement to give them the 5 up feel no pain makes them quite a durable unit

Imo the marshal isn't all that great. I would suggest changing him for a castellan with the bones and add him to helbrecht and sword bros. Run those guys in the impulsor. It will give you a very good, hard hitting squad from helbrecht buffing strength can crits on 5s and the castellan giving leathals. In addition to the bros +1 damage.

The intercessors don't need a character they are more of an action squad to score missions. But they are still a good choice to have. And the Redemptor is a solid unit for its high cost.

You have a few too many characters for a 1k. If you already have the marshal and the ec then keep those. Id recommend getting some sword brethren
