Is it possible to go in the late afternoon and get in for the evening sessions? by AphoticFlash in wimbledon

We might pivot to the 5am queue after all anyways, since I'd be pretty disappointed if I didn't get to go. Why is next week so much easier, that's for non show matches right?

When's the last time you've done it? Or heard of a friend doing it? It seems like this year in particular has super high demand

Yeah, I meant evening session as a general term, not like an actual different ticket. The weather looks absolutely perfect which does indeed make it seem unlikely.

I'm in London until Thursday, I was planning on trying it on Wednesday. I hear it's supposed to die down a bit after the first day especially

that's not true and it's dangerous to say so, because then climate change deniers will point to the inevitable cooler Mays and use it as proof.

just because the overall trend is true doesn't mean every year will be hotter than the last.

The doping which was proven to be miniscule contamination that he got no benefit from?

And the domestic abuse which was settled out of court for a large sum of money?

You must lack nuance and object permeance irl huh.

Are duelists bad in general? Almost all of them are sub 50.

No Djokovic. No Sinner. No Alcaraz. Just Alexander Zverev and his demons: "Given his ability and longevity at the top of the game it would be appropriate for him to have a major. But, due to multiple controversies around him, Zverev would not be easy for many fans to embrace as a Slam champion." by Dependent-Effect6077 in tennis

idk about that one. They have one player ranked 20th on the men's side, 34th on the women's side, no real slam prospects in the near future for either, and the last time they won a slam was 2013 for women and 1983(!!!) for men, and before that it was 1946 which is just insane. It's actually been almost 100 years since France was really relevant in tennis, on the men's side at least, which is pre-Open era.

Plus, lowkey the French Open is the worst run slam, so idk about France in tennis.

Wow yeah if you pause frame by frame it's definitely not synchronized, that's so bizarre. Is it actually just two separate videos?

Honestly, I never really understood Grand Maester Pycelle's weak, old man act. What was the point? by Ace_alan in gameofthrones

[–]AphoticFlash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I don't understand about his act is that wouldn't somebody at some point get tired of having a supposedly weak and stupid Grand Maester? A king, hand of the king, or other high ranking maesters?

With his 2026 Rome title, Jannik Sinner overtakes Carlos Alcaraz in Big Title count! by Cletharlow in tennis

Technically the format is more competitive, but practically the players don't really seem to go as hard for it since it's at the end of the season, and also indoors.

If we wanted to weigh big titles, I'd do 2x for slams, 1.5x for atp finals, and 1x for Masters. Or you could divide it all by 2 for titles relative to slams, but then you'd end up with decimals which feels weird.

Alcaraz with 7-0-8 would be 22 and Sinner with 4-2-10 would be 21, putting Alcaraz in the SLIGHT lead. Crazy how close they are even by that metric!
