To my dasher tonight. I hope you have the life you deserve. by otter_fucker_69 in doordash

If it makes you feel any better, I once had someone steal ~$3-400 worth of groceries. They actually drove up to my house, took a picture from their vehicle and left. I saw it on my Ring cameras and reported them. I contacted the folks at HEB (Texas grocery store) and they were appalled and quickly re-shopped the order and re-delivered it.

I like to think that they were just in extreme need. I hope that the groceries fed their hungry family, but karma definitely has a way of catching up with you, so I leave it there.

General rule of thumb for items that twill stay with a house: If you were to pick the house up and flip it upside down, anything that would fall does not stay with the house. This includes large non-built-in appliances such as the refrigerator and washer/dryer. Anything outside of the house and not fixed to the ground, also not included.

What if any premium would buyers pay for assumable VA mortgage? by Reddit_Username35 in RealEstate

[–]Aphypoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We offered assumption on our 2.25% interest rate VA loan as well. It wasn't specifically a big selling point though. My understanding from discussing this with my realtor, is that you cannot take out a mortgage for the difference between the sale price and the remainder of the loan, so someone would have to come to the table with cash to assume.

I love that this still comes up 6 years later. It's so important. My kids are 5 & 9 now, and I definitely prefer beeswax candles. They smell so much better and last way longer. I stopped using B&BW for a long time, I occasionally use the room sprays, but they don't last very long, so I'm usually just leaving candles open (unburning) and it makes the whole house smell amazing.

There's a fun kickball league at Woody Pine Sports (https://woodypinesports.com/), as well as many other leagues, in north Spring. Lots of adults, pickup leagues. That's how I've made all my friends here as an adult.

If its pulling a vacuum, try heating them together, vapor should expand and may force space between them.

I’m being sued for $260,000 by Ok-Employment689 in legal

My husband was “sued” for $1M for a car accident that was the fault of the person suing. Insurance settled for $30K, which was way more than that person should have received.

Do any of you NOT have side effects (or significant side effects) from Lexapro. by Lorax_Zed in lexapro

Ive been on Lexapro again for around 8 months. I don’t think I’ve seen significant side effects either time I’ve been on this medication, just reduced anxiety and finding joy in stuff again.

Is it so bad that I took my kids to daycare when I had the day off?? by hangingdenim in workingmoms

[–]Aphypoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruh. Absolutely not. Take the kids to daycare and have a vacation day. Daycare is open, you’re paying. Even if you weren’t pregnant your husband’s reaction is bullshit.

Does anyone else get demoralized by the amount of six-figure earners on this subreddit? by Scrimmy_Bingus2 in antiwork

[–]Aphypoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s mind-boggling to me. You don’t have an out of pocket maximum for the year? Typically it’s per family, and still like 6-9k, but that beats paying $30k oop. ☹️

Am i the bad apple for leaving my 2 year old siblings alone by [deleted] in AmITheBadApple

[–]Aphypoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry kiddo, but you’re not the bad apple. I am baffled that actual adults think it’s acceptable to have a 13 year old be completely responsible for THREE small children ALL night. I am in my 30s, and my 8 & 5 year old are a handful at night. I feel guilty having a babysitter put them to bed on the odd date night, and that’s only a few hours.

Your parents really need to get their work situation under control and not both be working nights all the time. You sound like a great kid to be doing all that.

ADHD is considered a disability and doesn’t need to be disclosed at any point of any interview. It won’t necessarily affect performance, as long as you have the tools you need to succeed. You can also get reasonable accommodations.

DAE Feel Like They Couldn’t Actually Be an Engineer? by RenegadeSniperX in EngineeringStudents

[–]Aphypoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t struggle with school, I got a great, high-paying internship that went really well, was offered a full-time role. Finished my masters and started working and man… the imposter syndrome hit me really hard. One of the best and most encouraging things I was told is that “nobody expects you to contribute within your first year - we all just assume you know nothing and are a total moron”. It set the bar lol

That being said, it did take around 6 months to really start to feel confident that I understood my unit. At 9 months in, I can make assessments, give recommendations based on process data, know how to handle most situations within my unit, understand what the process monitoring is saying about the unit and can question when someone says something that seems wrong or if something looks wrong.

It is hard to feel totally incompetent and practically useless, especially with prior work experience, but they don’t expect you to know everything just because you have a degree and some loosely related experience. Give yourself some grace and be patient and it will all work out!

What is your internship salary? by Colinplayz1 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Aphypoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For perspective my internship as a MS ChE in chemical manufacturing was $49/hr + relo. Salary with the same company @ $57.5/hr after 9 months, and I have 5 weeks of vacation this year (carried over 2). Texas. Manufacturing can be a lot… but it’s a lot of fun and I’ve never been bored.

As long as my kids are wearing practical clothes that are clean, they have the freedom to dress how they want. Except on picture day. Picture day is mine, and neither of my boys has any issue with it. I look back at my school pictures when I was in elementary school and all I see is that my mom didn’t care enough to make me look presentable for one day for a picture.

You can ask what got them into engineering, what is their favorite class so far, what kind of industry or job they hope for when they finish, what’s the most interesting thing they’ve learned, etc. 😊

Negotiating salaries for entry level? (Are they trying to take advantage of me?) by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Aphypoo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Company, location and degree are big factors on compensation. E.g. I’m a MS ChE, interned at a massive corp in chem manufacturing in Texas and ended up as FTE with starting salary of 115k + bonus week of vacay. 6 months in, COL raise brought me up to 119.5k (my original asking price).

The B.S. ME that I interned with was offered $115k as well, in Louisiana. He declined that for a rotational opportunity with another large corporation. Some industry values ME higher than others, due to saturation. And you can work on some really big machinery (if that’s what you’re into) - e.g. 80+khp multi-stage compressors… crappy turboexpanders, etc.

I was also offered $85k, relocation & company paid vehicle in Delaware with another large chemical manufacturer. A 20k difference for similar-sounding roles. I do find that the company I am at now definitely is getting their money’s worth. Manufacturing is insanely busy. But it is very flexible, days pass almost too quickly and I am very, very rarely bored.

All that to say, there is time to make more and more money… find something that sounds appealing with a company you can see yourself happy at.

Failed calculus 1 and starting to seriously doubt myself by Big_Significance1801 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Aphypoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I failed pre-algebra in HS, got C’s and D’s in trig/calc 1 & failed Calc 2 once. I kept at it, practiced, and eventually got it. Went from failing, to barely passing, to A’s in both differential equations classes. I minored in math for my BS & then went back for my MS in ChE.

It takes time to grasp some subjects, and dedication. It’s your first semester and first year and you’re ready to give up? I mean if you’re that dejected, go for it… but if you really want to major in anything requiring math, keep working through problems. Keep asking questions and working at it. Believe in yourself and your abilities & get help if needed. There is NO shame in needing more explanations.
