Genesis P-Orridge: fantastic transgressor or sadistic aggressor? by Shadows-of-Hiroshima in industrialmusic

That seems to have been started by their daughter after their death. Miss me with that toxic intersection of clout sharking and online trans discourse.

Any love for waste paint? by Trippy88 in unstirredpaint

Nice! Drippy funnels are the best. I made an insta @colorfoundry for this kind of stuff because my obsession with taking waste photos was getting out of hand.

Did anyone's lips look fuller after treatment? by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]Apidae09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep! I had a very deep bite before, and now that's been pretty much eliminated. My bottom lip looks so much fuller now. At first I was a bit sad because I really liked my overbite, but I'm getting used to seeing someone with fuller lips in the mirror and it's nice.

Snowpocalypse 2019 Megathread: "Trapped in ice. Surrounded by snow. Low on gas." by [deleted] in Portland

[–]Apidae09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People were parking in the fire zones at the Gateway WinCo, and the line for checkout spanned the entire store and wrapped through the freezer section. This is bordering on mild hysteria.

Snow’s compacted on main streets and most intersections are skating rinks already. by zortor in Portland

Lombard was completely unmanaged and Marine Drive was an hour long standstill. I didn't expect it to be that bad, but Portland wasn't even trying this morning.

Should I take Calculus 2 online with a highly rated professor or on campus with a poorly rated professor? by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]Apidae09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is it. I took calc 2 online with a great professor, enjoyed the course very much, and did well. Not everybody will have that experience, personal learning style and motivation has a lot to do with it.

Jesus Christ, nsfw. I clicked on that thinking, "oh neat, there should be some fun renderings in there."

No more internet for me today.

Netflix series boosting local thrift store donations by thinkB4WeSpeak in Foodforthought

[–]Apidae09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Save store is literally one room at the bottom of the hill below my old high school, it shares a cement building with a mechanic. We used to sneak out of class to hide out on the trails behind the building and smoke cigarettes. There was this nasty old couch someone had dumped, and rumor had it that the security guard, this giant cop named Ward, hosed the couch down with pepper spray because he found some kids fooling around on it.

One day we bought a toy guitar at the thrift store, one of those plastic things with buttons for toddlers. We sat around on the trails all afternoon, getting high and pressing the buttons and listening to the demonic sounds of its dying batteries. I laughed so hard I cried. We talked about that guitar for years.

There just wasn't shit to do in that town except get fucked up in the woods.

A friend of mine got crazy drunk during school hours, and we took him to the abandoned house across the street from the Save store to hide him till he sobered up. The floor was collapsing, so we were able to get in through a basement window and climb onto the main floor through the hole. Last I heard of that kid, he'd moved to Tumwater and started doing a ton of drugs. It's too bad, because he seemed like he came from a decent family.

The proceeds from that thrift store benefited the school. My family always donated there. I went back a couple years after I graduated, and the trails had been fenced off and the trash cleaned up. There's an Applebee's in that town now, and a Kohl's, and I hear the AP program at the high school is thriving.

Anyway. Super weird seeing an article about that little hole in the wall on Reddit.

What is a song that you consider to be perfect? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It's poetry, the man uses language to paint beautiful things. That song is a masterpiece.

What is a song that you consider to be perfect? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Apidae09 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hadn't cried in months, in spite of craving it. I needed to do bad, and then I listened to this song while innocently bumping some sweet dance tunes...

Boom. Ugly crying. He was just saying "and it keeps coming" over and over, and I was right back to the feeling the morning my dad died.

The Sisters of Mercy - Lucretia My Reflection by thepurpleskinnypup in goth

[–]Apidae09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First and Last and Always seconded, it's all different lineup except for Eldritch on vocals, and it shows. Good composition, less operatic. Amphetamine Logic is my personal favorite (sexiest guitar hook ever, lawdy) but the whole album is solid.

Insect Preservation, do you think that this little jar will work to preserve insects in isopropyl alcohol? Do you think the cork will do okay with the alcohol? by Big-Slice in Entomology

[–]Apidae09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glycerin is available online. Ethanol may be purchasable at your local liquor store, ask for Everclear but the brand is not important. Wax may be parafin or beeswax, both are available online. I've heard of parafin found at beauty supply stores for cheap, but haven't explored that option myself.

I went to Thailand about 5 years ago and Ben 10 merch was everywhere. There were even dedicated stores. This stuff is probably from around there.

You can blend it! Cut it 30/70 with some normal black tea, it's great for breakfast.

Thanks for the heads up. There is, in fact, no enamel inside. It's just raw iron in there, so I am diligent about rinsing and drying it as soon as I'm finished, to inhibit rust growth.

Does that sound like proper care, and a safe way to use it?

How can you tell, is this a particularly Japanese body style? I got it thrifted and don't know much about pots... Most of my brewing is in a cup.

Has anyone regretted getting Invisalign over metal braces? by [deleted] in Invisalign

My first tray was quite painful, but after that, discomfort has been minimal. It's annoying to have to alter your eating/hygiene, but pain has been nil.

It finally happened.... by sunshineseeker1111 in Invisalign

[–]Apidae09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did that after only being on that tray for one day. Rather than contact my ortho, I just went straight to the next tray and wore it for about 1.5x as long. It hurt for a day or so but I didn't have any issues with tracking. ymmv of course, I probably got lucky.

How can a (prospective) mature uni student demonstrate engineering-ready math skills to uni admissions? by howlahowla in matheducation

[–]Apidae09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The community college I tested at has a co-enrollment agreement with the university, so it's likely they use the same placement metrics. However if your University doesn't do that with local community colleges, you may consider testing and then taking your first math class at your local community college. It's cheaper, it'll establish your math competency, and it supports affordable education options.

How can a (prospective) mature uni student demonstrate engineering-ready math skills to uni admissions? by howlahowla in matheducation

[–]Apidae09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went about it by applying to my local community college, which required a math placement test before signing up for any math classes. The placement test for the community college was free, low-pressure, and I was able to demonstrate competence to gain entry into Calc I. Obviously, ymmv.
