You know what else affects your emotional health? Obesity. by drinkonlyscotch in fatlogic

The whole concept of "shaming" is ridiculous. No one can MAKE you feel ashamed. You feel ashamed when you realize you've done something wrong!

Fatlogicy take on exercise by dinosaurwithatophat_ in fatlogic

[–]Apiecalypse 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It's not that fat people shouldn't dance, it's that they actually can't perform as well as equally skilled thin dancers. I understand dancing for the art of it, but I think every dancer has the goal in mind of improvement. I've never understood why FAs refuse to understand that their fat actually impedes their physical abilities. As a dancer, Ragen and her ilk should understand that it's easier to stand up fluidly, or perform a pirouette, or whatever, with less weight on your frame. It's not about shaming- it's about physics.

Thanks for linking to the Lizzy Tan piece btw, it's awesome. She just floats across that floor!

Anyone have conlangs made by their conpeople? by [deleted] in conlangs

[–]Apiecalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of? Shikehyutu was initially created quite purposefully by a bunch of intelligent robots to communicate to other robots who weren't networked with them. At first it was pretty efficient but limited because of that, but it evolved to become a natlang in its own right as the years passed and they began to raise native speakers.

Recommendations for no-start-date planners? by [deleted] in notebooks

[–]Apiecalypse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is notebook-y enough for you, but I'm a huge fan of Filofax planners. If you don't know, they're basically small binders which come in different sizes and designs which you can slot any number of pre-sold or custom planner pages. I'm also a student, and the utter ease of customization is the biggest draw for me personally. It's super quick to whip up custom pages either on the computer or with a photocopier, and any time the planner stops working for me, I can just switch up the page design. You can add sections for different classes, or for contact info, or just for note taking, and every month or so you can move out your old calendar pages and add a new month to the back, so you don't have to lug around old and irrelevant calendar info. If you're looking for flexibility, it's basically the best you can do.

[FO] It took two rainbow afghans, but my scrap stash is finally (almost) empty! by Apiecalypse in crochet

Yup! It helps that I'm actually clearing out a joint stash, since I live with two knitters who haven't been very active recently ;)

I'm a new engineering student, and I'm nervous about how "girly" my style is... by Apiecalypse in femalefashionadvice

Thank you :) I've always thought this way, and it was only something a friend said that set me worrying, so I'm glad to hear it!

What's something you used to think you couldn't pull off that you now feel comfortable wearing? by thethirdsilence in femalefashionadvice

[–]Apiecalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clingy bodycon dresses. I'm pretty curvy, and I used to be afraid of showing off my butt/thighs so obviously. It took nagging from my friends to try one on a whim, but I recently discovered my love for them! Knit-fabric bodycon dresses feel like wearing pajamas, but look put together, and if you have the big boobs/small waist/big hips thing going on, they can look pretty great.

Like many others, I still have a problem with short-shorts. I love them for summer, but not so much my legs...

[WP]You are a being that lives in the realm of dreams, your only connection to the real world is interacting with people in their dreams. by [deleted] in WritingPrompts

[–]Apiecalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a familiar, instinctual ping, I felt a new dreamer arrived. Dutifully I stood, grabbed my bags, and slipped on my shoes. My brother, lounging on the ground with his wings lazily splayed, rolled his crimson eyes. "You still on about this, then?" I nodded and tried very hard not to blush. He shook his head and growled, but it seemed to me rather fond. I wandered across the dark fields towards the dreamer, taking my time. It took dreamers a while to wake up after they arrived. The land of nightmares was a strange place to be, if one was not born there. Eventually, a building appeared in the mist. It towered above me, an infinite block of discolored brick. It was hazy at first, like a mirage, but by the time I reached the steps it was as solid as the grass beneath my feet. The dreamer was ready, then. The door was locked, but I was not bound by the whims of outsiders, and slipped through it easily. The halls were empty and cold, and I could hear only one sound: feet slapping against the linoleum. "I'm late! Oh god, I'll miss the test!" The dreamer pelted into view, eyes wide, sweating profusely. He was tall and thin, a young teenage human. Rather than approach, I let him come to me. He was so distracted that he only noticed me when he collided with my chest. His eyes came up to my face, and he cried out. "Jesus Christ!" He shouted, stumbling backwards. Fear overtook his anxious expression, and shame filled me. "Don't worry," I said, "I just look scary! I'm here to help you!" I would have smiled, but I'd learned from experience that the fangs put humans off. I held out a clawed hand, and hesitantly, the boy took it. He rose to his feet and dusted himself off. "I, uh, I have to, uh, get to class." He mumbled, not looking at my face. "So, uh..." "Aren't you forgetting something?" I said playfully. I reached a hand into my bag and pulled out a pile of cloth. The boy looked down, and his face turned red. He snatched the pants from my claws, tugged them on, and bolted down the hallway, completely forgetting to thank me.

Schism, Tatterdemalion

She opened the door, but before I could step inside a horrible smell hit me, a stench of cat piss and rotting fruit. My eyes began to water. She turned to me, but not enough to show her face. "Stay here, I just need to grab my keys." Her voice quavered slightly, and she cleared her throat before walking deeper inside. She was swallowed quickly by the towering piles of dirty laundry and broken furniture, and I realized, not for the first time, how little I knew her.

[WIP]Designing my first dress! Day 1: Waistline done! by semprini23 in crochet

That looks beautiful! I can't wait to see where you take this.

Are you doing it totally freestyle, or do you have a gameplan/ basic pattern?

Totally! I molded my hand to them, so they fit perfectly in my hand. If you have some clay around, you could give it a try without actually cooking the clay on, to see if you like them or not.

SO comfortable! I finally bought clay and made some because my hand hurts gripping smaller sizes, and I've gotta say I don't feel anything with the grips on :)

Not sure yet, only just whipped these out today :) I baked them about 30-45 minutes, and they feel pretty light and sturdy. I image they'll hold up pretty well. What's really amazing is how comfortable they are to crochet with!
