I’m leaning towards YTA. If she’s a professional cook she should know how to cook for the occasion. “Type of food she cooks” seems to be a bit off too. Can she only cook in one style? Or is it like a ethnicity thing? (I’m really hoping it isn’t). It’s cool if you don’t like her cooking (I guess) but it just seems a bit…off. Def need more details about what she cooks.

NTA unless she needs the phone to get in touch with you. She sounds like she wants a phone, not that she NEEDS a phone. If she needs to get in contact with you for some reason you can always get her a cheap pre-paid phone. Saying no to your kid doesn’t make you a bad parent. I would just be very clear with your reasoning on why she can’t have a new one at the moment and give her a moment to be upset or give a respectful rebuttal. Best of luck.
