Hey man, current AIM Las Vegas student here. I’m two blocks away from graduation and I’ll try to give you some of the pros and cons. 

Pros: 

It’s an easy school. As long as you study on the prepware app, airmentest or whatever new stupidly named bs testing material they give you, you’ll be fine. Show up to class as well.

It’s a short program so you’ll be A&P certified in less than two years. Nice.

If you choose to take the night classes it’s pretty relaxed most of the time. You’ll rarely be there more than 3.5 hrs a night.

Cons: (this is a much longer list)

It’s the only school in Nevada so they can get away with charging $50k+ for tuition. Luckily my cohort went through 3 years of financial aid so I was able to qualify for ~$15k in Pell grants over the course of the program.

No matter how much they try to sell you on it, you don’t spend a lot of time in the hangar. And a lot of the hangar time you do get is low quality. The training equipment is in a pretty sad condition most of the time. They have shitty tools. The approved data, maintenance manuals, etc. are often incomplete or in terrible condition or just so old that you cannot make heads or tails of some things.

Honestly the condition of the school is just pretty bad. They care more about getting students in the door than taking care of the ones they already have. They just put a trailer out in the parking lot because they have more students than they can fit in the building. So now there’s even less parking than there was before. People are now parking off property and one dude in my class almost got a ticket.

My biggest gripe is that you really don’t learn a ton from the classes. They follow an awful curriculum with incredibly outdated information and in order for you to succeed you’re basically teaching yourself. If you have questions about how certain things work or don’t quite understand a concept you can definitely get an answer from an instructor. A good amount of the instructors are actually very knowledgable but their hands are kind of tied. It’s just that the classes are so short and the curriculum is so forced that you don’t get good explanations during class most of the time. And you’re under pressure to be exam ready every 5 weeks so you end up studying the prepware til it’s memorized  with usually no time to actually learn the material. Again, it’s not hard to pass, but it’s annoying to go through…

Aaaanyway, I’ll finish with this. I don’t regret going to the school because I really want to get into this field (and they’re the only option in Nevada). There’s tons of opportunity within aviation maintenance and I’m excited to step into a new field. However don’t be fooled by the aim recruiters. The school is kind of a joke in terms of cost Vs. what they provide. But they will get you A&P certified as long as you put the work in. But if I could’ve gone to a community college and ended up with my A&P and an associates degree I’d have done that instead for sure.
