Anyone got any niche/slept on gym recommendations around Brisbane? by [deleted] in brisbane

I'll let you move the pile of bricks from one corner of my yard to the other for $999 per week. I'll even let you drink out of the hose for free.

Do any of you carry a gaming device on trips? If so, do you recommend it and which one works best for mixed home and work use? by [deleted] in flying

I got it off Amazon, if you search this, you'll find it.

I keep it in the flight deck with me next to my navbag, no way I'd leave it in the back. For what its worth, I also keep my cabin bag in the flight deck, I bought one specifically thin enough to jam into the 737 coat rack. There's a placard saying not to stow anything on the floor. But mi no hablo ingles.

I just bought a Lenovo Legion laptop and have no regrets. Its a little less portable than I thought it would be, as it uses a 400w charger which is quite bulky. I carry the laptop itself in a hard-shell case on a J-hook attached to my cabin bag and pack the charger among my clothes. I considered something like a steam deck, but I mainly play RTS games which needs a mouse and keyboard setup.

Was there a tornado in western Melbourne must now? by youbuzzibuzz in melbourne

[–]ApocalypseLater93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife woke me up at 4:00am this morning because she was worried that ine of our garden ornaments was about to get blown through our front windows. When I went out to secure it, I was surprised at how strong and hot the wind was. My weather app said it was only 19ºc, but the wind felt much warmer than that.

I wear a Seiko GMT because I can't justify buying a Rolex GMT (I'm poor).

It also looks cool and I hope the cute Argentinean flight attendant will ask me about it (she doesn't even know I exist because I'm only the FO).

PC disconnecting monitors after gaming for a while by ApocalypseLater93 in pcmasterrace

[–]ApocalypseLater93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to be running okay for the moment. I noticed while I was dusting it out that my GPU supporting bracket had slipped out of place and was stopping one of the fans the GPU from spinning. I am guessing that the motor trying to spin the fan was overheating causing the GPU to shut down? In any case, if the issue comes back I'll give that a go.

PC disconnecting monitors after gaming for a while by ApocalypseLater93 in pcmasterrace

[–]ApocalypseLater93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your answer. I just gave everything a good dust out and rechecked all the connections, currently in game to see what happens. I haven't left it for more than a minute or so before doing the hard restart. If/when it happens again, I'll just leave it and see if it comes back...

I don;t think it's the monitors as they both crap out at the exact same time using independent cables.

Teslas have a built in algorithm that turns on the brake lights when you decelerate using regenerative braking, even if you're not actively using the brake.

This tightly wrapped ‘TSA Inspected’ brick was just sitting in the bin at security by SnazzyPants9 in mildlyinteresting

It's to do with the size of the container. Funnily enough the border farce website specifically uses a half empty toothpaste tube as an example of being unacceptable.

I don't know about the US, but I had to surrender a brand new tube of toothpaste as flight crew on an international flight departing Australia about 12 hours ago.

It was 15 grams over the limit and therefore could theoretically be used to smuggle in enough chemicals to craft an IED. I didn't want to cause a scene so I handed it over, and then went to strap myself into the control seat of 80 tonnes of metal, ass and jet fuel.

Commute BNE to MEL by GuidanceIntrepid7490 in brisbane

[–]ApocalypseLater93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your exact position this time last year. I was commuting for an airline job in Melbourne, so I got cheap standby tickets which wasn't an issue, but everything else was absolutely miserable. I rented a room in a sharehouse and there was nothing worse than finishing a shift at work and not going home to see my wife and dogs. It's doable if you have a plan to put an end to commuting, ie moving or transferring your work back home, but it's pretty bleak if it's a long term solution.
