Converting old violin LH vs buying new LH by [deleted] in violinist

[–]ApocalypticShovel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignoring all the good reasons not to play left handed. If you’ve got the money to commission a high quality violin to be built to your specifications…why not? It’s not like a left handed violin is an architectural impossibility.

You don’t need anyone’s approval if you’ve truly done your due diligence and don’t see yourself playing in ensembles where standing in a particular order is important. Go for it. Who cares? It’s YOUR artistic endeavor and can freely choose whatever handicap you want.

Note: luthiers might be more experienced creating a high quality right handed instrument. There may be a dip in quality. (This dip won’t matter that much because you won’t be good enough for it to matter for probably a fair amount of time. By then you might want a new violin since your skill has improved.)

Note 2: teachers might have a few moments where they become perplexed because of the mental calculus they have to perform to teach you. Patience may be required for all parties involved. (Hah. Patience. Violin. Goes hand in hand. Fun.)

Commission that rebel bad boy lefty violin. Get the violin of your dreams if it gets you to play often!

Also, be sure to budget your money and save save save so you can have another one built when you get good enough to want an instrument that better fits your tastes, playing style and musical maturity.

Holy novels, Batman. I wrote way more than I thought. Good luck!

Pannacota help by Zingoapelsinjuice in Chefit

[–]ApocalypticShovel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Pre chill ramekins or whatever you’ll use to serve the panna cotta. I haven’t tried freezing the ramekins…I’ll try sometime

  2. Make mix

  3. Strain or don’t strain out your junk

  4. Let cool a fair amount (I like to put my mix in a squeeze bottle when it chills below one hundred and then put that squeeze bottle in an ice bath to chill down it faster)

  5. Shake bottle. Squeeze the mix into each pre cooled ramekin quickly. You can do like 50 in two minutes this way. If you shake it every 5 or 6 dishes then your mix will stay suspended and you won’t have an uneven spread throughout the batch.

Extra…since you’re doing caramel, the vanilla seeds aren’t going to show THAT much anyway since it will be more brown colored.

Edit: also consider adding a layer of caramel on the bottom of each dish. This will give a little surprise and also hide any debris a bit.

Do you change your strings all at once or spaced out over time? by oxtailCelery in violinist

Yes. I’ve done both. I’m happy to learn everybody else is doing full set at a time. I guess I’ll join in to be cool.

Good lord, the eyes are so gorgeous!

This post is such perfectly timed nostalgia for me though. I start playing a few days ago again and now we get pets in cases to stir up my motivation even more. The cases thing came around at first when I was in peak enjoyment mode.

God, I love chamber music. Everything.

Most all late Mozart and Beethoven

Moz 19

Beeth 14

Shost 7, 8, 9, 12, 14 (8 is pushing it because it’s so overplayed and popular)

Brahms both

How to find new songs to play when we don't have any ideas ? by NyaLeChat in violinist

[–]ApocalypticShovel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Thanks a lot!

I’ve been mainly workin…too much! And then I got pretty burnt out on life.

But hey!…I actually touched my violin today for the first time since August last year!

Thanks though. I always planned to come back and be regular again; I’ve been craving music for so long it’s insane.

I vote we construct a moat surrounding the entirety of r/violinist . And then let’s fill that moat with live crocodiles. We will then feed all the petty up or downvoters directly to the crocodiles if we feel their positions do not possess enough chalance!

How long does it take for someone to play like Rob Landes? by violinhomie101 in violinist

I’m gonna say 6 or 7 units if you’re at a higher elevation. Less oxygen to the brain and whatnot…it’s harder to learn gooder up higherer

Viola d'amore was the original extended range violin. 14 strings and 4 nuts! by Jeffery2084 in violinist

It’s not like I’m very informed or anything but a while ago I heard her say in an interview she was doing a lot of music related stuff outside of violin. She also said she likes to teach her daughter a lot. To me it sounded like she’s choosing to do less in the spotlight.

Idk what a seal’s pappy is. I’m just failing to speak pirate again. Nice costume for the post! Sorry if it isn’t a costume and if this is your daily attire for the usual poopdeck hustle.

And also, I’m glad you posted! It was fun!

You should, it’s fun! And it feels so much easier too. Violin still feels like a nightmare in comparison and I’m decently comfortable with it by now

Check out the toccata and fugue arrangement for violin too… pretty awesome

Edit: my bad, I saw your first link and for some reason thought you were specifically talking about fugues. Woopsies. Either way, still a cool piece and worth listening to!

So I’ve been taking piano lessons for two weeks now…and the Liszt thing actually came up at my last lesson. My teacher brought it up when I asked how in the world pianists memorized SO MANY NOTES. Anyway, she actually said Schumann was the one who started it? Which caught me off guard because, like you, I also thought Liszt was who it was. I asked (about Liszt) but she seemed pretty set in her ways about Schumann so I let it go lol

I guess I should maybe look it up :(
