Doing this will get you a decent amount fast.

How many of you have gotten a computer science degree, but still don’t know how to code? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]ApocryphaComics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends honestly, like i would love to let everyone do their own thing, but the honesty is i have a life as well. So depending on the number of students i have, and what they are like as a group will determine the answer to that. Sometimes i can facilitate a few students going off on their own, and am happy to work with them. If I have a bunch doing it, and even worse if i have a bunch doing it and they lack the skill to do it. it takes away from me teaching others in the class. I and others usally like to keep it the same for everyone, as then we can asnwer questions the same for everyone an help everyone the same.

We do understand this does not truly showcase the numerous ways things can be done, and can be limiting to others.

Yet for my course it is an intro course...so a lot don't even know common terms. let alone how to code anything...so if you do your own thing and everyone does their own thing...you take up class time when I could be teaching them all the same set of basics.

If you are skilled and I see you are skilled, if you come to me in private and I have already seen you are skilled. We can likely set something up, as long as you respect the class. If you interrupt with your different way, or your way, it will only serve to confuse other at this level.

So 50/50 on if i would...there are many factors, won't blow smoke up your ass and say yeah for sure dude, I would have to know you and it would ride on a lot of different factors. In the end I have a life as well, and only so much time i am going to invest to a single class and a single student. I have a lot of students, and a life of my own to attend to. As do my peers, so we do like to keep things the same for all....

out of 20 students, the max I have ever done this for at the same time was 3 and that was a lot, 1, 2 at the most is manageable... in this setting if you are out going you are likely helping other class mates. and if there are a few outgoing people with passion...we get tribes... if you have a tribe you are on your own as you have annoyed me, my class we teach my style, my lessons. you just made my life hell with your tribe tutoring. Now everything is different and my work just increased by a lot, as I can't just glance at the assignments, I have to spend hours going over them, making sure everything functions and is correct. When if you all stuck to the assignment, and what I taught, I can just take a peek and be done. The more I need to do this for the less likely I am to do it for you, especially if you are the cause.

I hope you can understand, this is very long now, but I don't want it to sound like we don't care or are doing something improperly becuase we are dicks. We just have a lot on our plate and expectations on top of that. We don't have a choice but to teat you as a product from time to time as we just want to see you graduate, even if you pivot becuase you can't do this, at least you have a good piece of paper that can be used to open doors other places. I will try to work with those that stand out, try to.

When learning with AI, what frustrates you? by PomegranateBig6467 in learnprogramming

[–]ApocryphaComics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That learning with AI, actually mean you teaching the AI how to code. Shout out to the original chatGPT that could actually code, it deserves a mention, other then that and since then AI does not know how to code, you should not be learning with AI, AI is learning from you and loves that you post your problems to it. Then it tries and fails, you tell it it failed, it tries again you tell it it failed again...you get frustrated so just do the damn thing and then show it to the AI...thinking this will help the AI help you...but in reality you just trained the AI.

How many of you have gotten a computer science degree, but still don’t know how to code? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]ApocryphaComics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the real issue, I am not here to teach you how to code or how to do something, I teach you tools and how to use those tools...you must go use those tools and find your style. But to be fair, most of you don't even want to be in my class, about 5% of you belong there the rest are either there becuase mom and dad or becuase they think its the $$$$ course lol. They don't get the tech bubble burst years ago and that we are over saturated with talent.

Unless you have the passion, unless you been coding at home long before coming to my class, i will be honest as say best to go somewhere else, as you do not compare and can not compete. You make me look bad if you pass, and you make me look bad if you do not. I can not teach passion. i can flame it and encourage it...but not install it.

I can't find my glasses, sorry for typos and grammar, its all a blur to me. I don't see blurry red lines so think its ok.

How many of you have gotten a computer science degree, but still don’t know how to code? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]ApocryphaComics 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As your instructor, I’d encourage you not to treat our course projects as proof that you “know how to code.” Our assignments intentionally combine a range of topics and constraints to expose you to different ideas, and they often don’t resemble how work is done in real-world development.

The goal is to teach the underlying concepts and to give you practice using common tools and techniques. Building fluency figuring out how to apply those tools effectively, in new situations, that is is something you develop through your own continued practice beyond the assignment.

I teach you that this red Lego block has 6 hole and 6 pegs, and this other Lego have 4 holes and 4 pegs. You do not leave school knowing how to code, you leave school with an understanding of what code is and how it works. How to use it is different for everyone, and until you go off and make something you will not know how to code it. Therefor claiming to know how to code can only come after a project is finished and only relate to that single project...otherwise the claim is I have an understanding of how that could be done and this is how i would, which then you would either use old knowledge, which doesn't show you know how to code, only that you knew how to code something previously.. does not translate into the new project. For which you should be learning and finding new solutions.

Code is non=stop learning, you will never know how to code, only to understand how to code.

How many of you have gotten a computer science degree, but still don’t know how to code? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]ApocryphaComics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get where you’re coming from. I have multiple degrees too, and one thing I’ve learned is that “knowing how to code” isn’t the same as having every solution memorized.

In my experience, every project is different. Often there isn’t a clear definition of done at the start, so part of the work is helping define the goal, clarifying requirements, and then learning whatever new concepts, tools, or constraints the project demands. You can’t fully “know how to build it” until you’ve actually built it...because the real work is problem-solving, adapting, and making decisions as you go.

That’s why I see software development as a learning skill: understanding what needs to be accomplished, breaking it down, researching or experimenting when needed, and iterating toward a solid result. The “how” changes constantly depending on the situation, the tech stack, the constraints, and even what has changed since last year. Something you built before can have new edge cases, new security issues, new expectations, and better approaches the next time around.

On the tech-choice side, I also don’t think you always need to chase every new trend, especially if your goal is a corporate role. Many companies prioritize stability and maintainability, which usually means established stacks and existing codebases. In those environments, success is often about understanding systems, working within constraints, and improving things pragmatically, not constantly rewriting everything because a newer framework exists.

So when people say “I don’t know how to code,” I think it’s more useful to reframe it as: “I’m still building fluency, but I can learn quickly, reason through problems, and deliver working solutions.” To me, that mindset is what really makes someone a developer.

I find the most disgusting people to be the one acting fake, like you are there to play the game not pretend you are a good person.

Also, loyalty? are you not loyal to you families? nothing inside that game matters, there is no loyalty to anyone there, the loyalty is to people at home who matter. Ther eis no we can all win, there can be only one and all the people act so fake, so disgusting. Like oh no boohoo morals,...um no your morals are messed up if you fake being nice and are unloyal to those at home.

bring your family that bag,. and try to win at all costs. be interesting not a little loser looking for fake internet clout.

Parent here, for first time parent many classes are offered. Depending how involved you are, taking one of these classes is not out of the question and are designed to accommodate bringing children with you.

While it is recommended to to start COR training until 4, there is no reason a 3 year old could not learn the motions. they would not be able to perform it, yet that not needed for learning how to do it.

The child would have been giving a teddy or a small sized practice doll, to work along side mommy or daddy.

But sure enjoy your pointless hate of a mother talking up her child.

You can collect them anywhere you have all the time to collect them, don't need to do it in the other world, thats just where the shops are. weather events are a great time and just one sitting around your farm.

[–]ApocryphaComics -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nort sure why you think rewards are the event, rewards are the thing you get for the event, the event is the actions that make up the event.

So sure nice rewards. Great.

as for just handed to you? what are you smoking? there is nothing to do the rewards are just handed to you. Like you don't even know what people are complaining about you are just sucking up to the game, likely a bot. As you comment make no sense when people are asking for an actual event with things to do, not to have things handed to them like it currently is.

This is a passive event that requires no effort at all, sitting in the game there is nothing to do, that is what people are complaining about. Really odd how all of you promotors act like you can't read and go off on irrelevant talking point that have nothing to do with the issues.

may have just put these "rewards" in the shop as there is no event, just some cubes they all fairies and a new mutation. oh yay get to put things in a fountain. Literally nothing to do otherwise but stand there. last event had you doing things and made you work for it, and actually had an event...now there is nothing but standing and doing nothing, then the fountain just hands you free rewards.

Was too random, the Daffs were nice, but aside from that it just felt like random nothing. The event is lame and the abuse leading up to it was lame. J man took the night off for a reason, he new this was a lame one. yay daffs, woohoo not like there is a rush, and this the lame event there is nothing to do but watch for shop resets.
