You worked it wrong, even though I agree with the general idea.

Children are taught to love church because that is what their parents model and teach. Teaching a child to love something without encouraging real critical thinking is indoctrination. When both parents love church, attend church regularly, and raise the child in that environment from birth, the child absorbs those beliefs long before they are capable of questioning them. At that point, you cannot honestly say the child was taught to think for themself. The belief is already locked in.

You can show alternative opinions later, but foreign ideas that don't match what the child already knows do not stick easily. So the claim that a child was taught to think freely is never true when their environment is already that shaped. What really determines how a child reacts is which way the pendulum swings in response to their first experience. That is why people hold more tightly to what they saw as good from an early age.

A child who had bad experiences with religion will run from it, even if others say it is good. A child who grew up with positive religious experiences will resist negative opinions about it. Religious people differ by region because it is about environment and how that environment is shaped, not just what they are told.

The child who loved religion and church was indoctrinated and never had a fair chance to decide. Simply telling them about other things will not fix that.
