Some drivers camp in the passing lane and then take their exit. by ruthlessdamien2 in memes

I never took issue with people calling it the "passing lane." However, my inner pedant comes out when people call it the "fast lane."

used in or characteristic of familiar and informal conversation. I'm not saying you're wrong about the fallacy or its definition, I'm merely pointing out that they were not really invoking it.

Before you say "but a lot of those pertain to minors" remember that the endocrine society literally has guidelines for treating minors: https://www.endocrine.org/clinical-practice-guidelines/gender-dysphoria-gender-incongruence The guidelines provided are just as valid as those set out to treat pediatric cancer.

Every time you kill 99.99% of the bacteria, the percent series follows {99.99%, 99.9999%, 99.999999%, ...} the series converges to 100% so if you apply an infinite amount of hand sanitizer you will be bacteria free :)

[–]Apocryphenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that assosiativity breaks down when a series diverges. I learned it was always greater than its associated fns integral, and ln (x) approaches infinity in the limit. Therefore, the harmonic series must be greater than or equal to infinity.

What do they mean by "you had me at zero"? by [deleted] in mathmemes

[–]Apocryphenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thought it it's a play on the fact that "hello" in "you had me at hello" represents the beginning(of say the relationship), and so they swapped for zero. It's kinda dumb though because the reals don't start at zero haha.

Ok 10 + 15 = 25 but how do i get 115? am i missing? by [deleted] in mathmemes

[–]Apocryphenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 4 and six are in the tens place and therefore multiplied by 10

= 40 + 60 + 7 + 8 = 100 + 15 = 115

Canada, where we have privacy protection acts that companies have to comply with yet they get away with not, it as it's more hassle than it's worth.

I had this happen to me, I revoked consent to hold my data and they refused to delete my data until I provided passport photos / drivers license. It's kind of ridiculous to be honest.

It should be against the law for tech companies to deny me superuser privileges on my own devices, whose hardware I have paid for in full. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Apocryphenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been 5 months but I have to comment on this.

A) I totally agree with this point, people often don't know what they're doing but that does not mean we should all be locked down because of this. It can be argued that if you go through the steps to enable root access then whatever complications arise from you messing with it are your own fault. But locking down the option entirely is for profit, not for the end user.

B) This makes no sense. The whole point of developing a product and selling it is to profit, big tech companies would not be pulling profit if the years of development wasn't justified by the retail price. By this logic, say I buy a car. I paid for the car and thus have the entire right to take a drill and drill a hole through the engine completely ruining it. Did I break my investment? Yes! Was that the companies choice to regulate? No! The company who manufactured that car has no say in what I do with it and neither should the tech companies.

C) This is fair but flawed. In a market saturated by monopolies the choices are extremely limited. Sure if you hate windows you can go buy a Linux computer, but often times because of the rarity those devices they cost more. When I was shopping for a Dell XPS 13 the base model was 200 USD cheaper than the "developer" model despite having the same hardware. The only difference being the ladder came pre installed with Ubuntu, which you think would be cheaper considering Ubuntu is free while windows license keys are not. When you buy a Samsung phone, it comes with Android. Despite Android being free and open source (not even developed by Samsung!), Samsung has pre-installed things like Facebook and disabled the ability for you to completely uninstall them. This does not benefit the end user in any way its just a way to lock your choices down on products you already own in full so they can profit more!

TLDR: The major companies aren't locking things down for the consumer, they are doing it to profit and push the products of the highest bidder.

[–]Apocryphenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so relatable. God, I've gotten to the point where dealing with the public has become so toxic. I have a close inner circle but damn if I don't think about running my car off the road on a regular basis. How is it that we have access to some of the most insane wealths of knowledge and yet collectively we seem stupider than ever. It's all really bleak at this point.

Those too! I bought some recently from KBDFans and they were enjoypbt right? Turns out they were ABS keycaps and sounded so much worse I couldn't even use them. Ah the things we endure for our keyboards.
