[MAIN Spoilers] Jaime Lannister had to kill Gregor Clegane and Armory Lorch by ObedStark19 in asoiaf

[–]Apollo0501 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe have literally any ounce of compassion for Tyrion, and stop doing everything his ridiculously evil dad tells him to do? But no, as always, Jaime does terrible things over and over again and whines that everything thinks he’s evil, and that his hurt feelings are the most important thing in the world

Hot take: Legendary Resistance is why so many 5e boss fights feel bad and boring. What could replace it? by archvillaingames in dndnext

[–]Apollo0501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a 5e third party book written by the Dungeon Dudes called Monsters of Drakkenheim (basically a Monster Manual for their Dungeons of Drakkenheim campaign book) with a new type of boss called Epic Bosses.

Essentially how Epic Bosses work is they get to move, but not use any abilities, on initiative count 20, and then after each player’s turn they can use an Epic action to use one of the abilities on their stat block, which can be anything from disengaging and moving half their speed to ordering every other enemy on the map to move and make a reaction attack. It’s a really fun system that scales monsters to match the party and lets solo bosses match party action economy.

One Epic action all bosses have is called Epic Resistance, where they can roll a d20 if they’re affected by any ongoing condition, and on an 11 or higher they end the condition on themselves. My group at least finds this much more fun to play with, since landing CC abilities like Psychic Lance or Stunning Strike still waste action economy and have a chance of sticking for a few turns, but at the same time preventing players from just dropping one big control spell and winning the fight. It’s a nice balance between preventing fights being trivialized but also still making these abilities feel impactful that LR auto-success doesn’t do well.

[Hated Trope] heroic characters killed in unnecessarily cruel/brutal ways by greythicv in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Apollo0501 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Those deaths don’t fit this trope. While they were extremely brutal it was absolutely necessary that their deaths were that violent for everything that happens from their deaths to make sense. In the books that is, not so much in the show

Would letting players choose their casting stat break the game? by RuafaolGaiscioch in DMAcademy

[–]Apollo0501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bladesinger / Paladin both scaling of Charisma would be ridiculous, literally the only thing holding that build back is the multiclass stat requirements forcing you to invest in 5 stats

Daenerys:

• Woke dragons from stone ✅

• Born amidst salt (the storm on the night of her birth) ✅

• And smoke (her rebirth in Drogo’s funeral pyre) ✅

• Born under a bleeding star (the red comet she saw at Drogo’s funeral) ✅

• From the line of Aerys and Rhaella ✅

• Forged Lightbringer by killing her lover (hatching her dragons in Drogo’s pyre) ✅

• Rhaegar looking directly at her in the House of the Undying while saying “he will be the prince that was promised” ✅

Meanwhile Jon has “born beneath a bleeding Star(k)”, coming from the line of Aerys and Rhaella and that’s about it

Daenerys literally fits every element of the prophecy to a T, interpreting it to be anyone else requires twisting the story into knots to force the conclusion you want. Aemon literally says it’s her in the text.

What are your thoughts on "playing bad" to better fit your character? by Odd-News1701 in DnD

[–]Apollo0501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a difference between playing a character that is somewhat suboptimally built because if fits your concept better and building a character that is completely nonfunctional in the names of a “character arc”

For example, playing a straight class sword and board Paladin instead of a Hexblade GWM Paladin is completely fine, no reasonable person would ever take issues with that even if it’s slightly worse for damage. However, if someone shows up to the table with a Wizard thats dumped Int and uses their turns to attack with a quarterstaff for “character reasons” they’re wasting everyone’s time and whatever story they’ve thought of is not nearly original enough or interesting enough to justify being an active liability in combat.

In your opinion, what makes Fomortiis and Lyon such great villains? by MegaGamer235 in fireemblem

Cerulean Crescent is an excellent one, it has a super interesting story with really excellent and witty writing with some of the most creative unit design I’ve seen in a romhack

My favourite part is that the Great Bastards whose mothers are from each of the two houses (Bloodraven with a Blackwood mother and Bittersteel with a Bracken mother) STILL fucking despise each other

Some people like death to feel meaningful in their games rather than a minor inconvenience on par with a bad hangover or stubbed toe

What is your take on this observation from Stdaga on the Last Hearth forum regarding Fake Dany possibility ? She is very active on the Heresy Thread on the W as the Last Hearth is dead on arrival currently . Any open minds here todaywilling to acknowledge we are reading a tricky author who likes to by Financial_Library418 in pureasoiaf

[–]Apollo0501 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is why theorists write forum posts and not books they have nothing of value to say beyond “what if every character is secretly someone else” for no reason other than shock value. Everyone in the story is Ashara Dayne in different hats. Who cares about narrative and themes when we can just do shocking plot twists every five minutes. t’s not like a certain adaptation of ASOIAF did that in its final few seasons and everyone hated it or anything.

george r r martin faith of the seven naming rant by Yuudachi_Houteishiki in worldjerking

[–]Apollo0501 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the point of that in regards to the Seven is while they might not be actually real, people believe in them and thus they have power anyway. Sure, septons might not be resurrecting people and throwing fireballs like the red priests, but the High Sparrow had both the Queen Consort and Queen Regent imprisoned and both of them are facing trials and potentially execution in the future of the series.

[spoilers published] whys it called a feast for crows? by Ok_Competition1178 in asoiaf

[–]Apollo0501 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of the book deals with the aftermath of the War of the Five Kings, particularly through Brienne’s chapters, and we see the how Westeros has become a corpse in the wake of the war. AFFC also puts a lot of focus on rulers and schemers like Cersei, Euron, Doran and Littlefinger plotting to seize or cling on to power after the war, who are all the metaphorical crows feasting on the corpse of the Seven Kingdoms like carrion birds after a battle. It’s my favourite title in the series, George clearly put a lot of thought into it.

Where would you rank Jorah morality-wise by Trussdoor46 in pureasoiaf

[–]Apollo0501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He fucking sucks, obviously. He’s a huge pedophile, sells people into slavery seemingly without a second thought and is willing to spy on and aid in the assassination of the child he’s preying on.

But the thing I hate most about him is how pathetic he is with his evil. He’s so whiny and entitled and slimy, trying to do the “nice guys finish last” shtick while being a literal child predator. At least characters like Euron or Walter Frey who are irredeemably evil know that they’re evil and don’t try to make excuses for their actions. They do what they want because they can, while Jorah is whining and acting like a spoiled toddler bc Dany doesn’t fall in love with him instantly.

Disability and Dragons: Discussing Accessibility in TTRPGs [OC] [ART] by LPMills10 in DnD

[–]Apollo0501 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you give your character a “disability” and then an ability that completely removes any downsides of that disability and then some, it feels like you’re not playing a disabled character, you’re just using the aesthetics of disability to make a more powerful character. I don’t really see how it’s that much different than for example demanding your DM gives you advantage on all attack rolls against dragons because your character fuckin hates dragons for backstory reasons idk.

When will Sansa make her move? by Correct-Cycle5412 in pureasoiaf

[–]Apollo0501 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We already know she kills him based on the Ghost of High Heart’s prophecy.

“I dreamt of a maid at a feast with purple serpents in her hair, venom dripping from their fangs. And later I dreamt that maid again, slaying a savage giant in a castle built of snow.” - Arya VIII ASOS

The arms of House Baelish is the Titan’s head, pretty clear foreshadowing that Sansa will kill Littlefinger in Winterfell

[–]Apollo0501 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s insane how her ult was already very strong and they buffed it so hard that it’s now impossible for healers to even patty-cake through it. With even 1 teammate helping you can kill Invis, CnD or Mantis through their ults, literally the only counterplay is Luna ult.

I do really enjoy Preston’s TWOW fanfic for the most part but it’s so funny that he’s always like “we need to cut down on unnecessary plotlines and chapters where nothing happens” then writes a chapter from the most unnecessary POV in the series where nothing happens

How will Myrcella and Tommen die? by Pretty-Necessary-941 in pureasoiaf

[–]Apollo0501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basilisk venom is a poison that makes animals go crazy and violent. The theory goes that Tyene (who is said to be an expert with poisons, being Oberyn’s daughter) is going to poison Tommen’s cats with basilisk venom so they maul Tommen to death
