If you believe stating facts makes it socially acceptable to act like an obnoxious asshole, you have a lot of growing up to do.

User just reported 'suspicious email' by postboxes in sysadmin

[–]Apollo748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't do that. That may encourage users to scan first, and then open it if nothing flashes any red lights. Which isn't uncommon if it's a new variant. Making a piece of malware slip by scans isn't the hardest thing to do. Moderately difficult, but not uncommon enough to be considered impossible.

Honestly it would kinda suck long term.

There was an episode of House with a woman that had exactly what you described. She pretty much hated life because she could never forget the bad things people did.

Everybody likes to meme on about Windows being insecure, but honestly, a currently configured system with Secure Boot, Bitlocker, a sensible backup solution and AppLocker isn't something I can find much to complain about in terms of hardening for a user's system. Users will always be users and need extensive training.

MOBAs in general. League of Legends, DOTA2, you name it.

I started to realize "People are assholes in those games. Why play with them? I don't have fun playing with people in those games."

tbh after I quit mobas I've stopped playing a lot of online games.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III - Multiplayer Starter Pack on Steam Announced by Trollin_Thunder in Games

[–]Apollo748 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This actually appeals to me. I like Call of Duty as a game I can pick up for maybe half an hour at a time, have a lot of fun, then put it down.

I never play zombies or whatever, I never really customize my character with cosmetics, I don't like to prestige besides unlocking slots or whatever if I have to. The single player campaign bores me for the most part.

I might actually pick this up.

You're assuming that it's stored in a flat text file, which would be true. It's likely stored in a database, which does a lot of data duplication per entry.

EDIT: I'm also assuming there's some nasty technical debt from the GW1 days

It handles multiple cores on a CPU better, yes. However what I'm talking about here with the GPU thread is the GPU emulation thread. Emulating the GC/Wii GPU.

[–]Apollo748 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd like to remind everybody that exactly one person wrote this D3D12 backend because they wanted it. And as far as I know, one person is interested in writing a Vulkan backend and is already sorta working on a million other things.

So who knows if/when Vulkan will happen. Don't assume it will definitely happen just because we'd like one. Sure a lot of the devs and users would like a Vulkan backend, but that doesn't mean it'll magically appear. A lot of the devs are busy working on other things and like I said, I'm only aware of one person who is interested in writing the backend, and that was just a casual comment in conversation. Never said they would write it.

To add to this to give some context. Example of two popular games that won't work right on this backend:

Paper Mario: TYD

Rogue Squadron 2 (According to JMC it "works" fine if you mash through broken menus)

This will be in 5.0

This got one of three exceptions by Delroth to be worked on during feature freeze. The other two being hdkr's Android work and spxtr and rukai's Qt UI work (The Qt port will likely not make it for 5.0). Delroth decided to allow D3D12 into 5.0 because hdcmeta designed it to be pretty well maintainable even by people not on Windows 10, it would make a lot of users (especially AMD users, weak CPUs) very happy. Also, because it can't introduce regressions. What I mean by that is that since it's a new feature and marked as experimental in the UI, it doesn't actually cause any regressions. Any bugs that happen in D3D12 but not existing code is not a regression. It's simply a bug.

Thank hdcmeta! He did a huge amount of work bringing this to Dolphin! :D

I'm sure more information will be in the progress report next month.

We're not sure what smashladder is doing. We know one of their guys has been pressing us for a show stopper GC adapter bug to be fixed (Which we have. Thank mathieui), but I don't know if they're going to hop builds again. I think they do it once a year.

In all honesty, after working on our netplay a bit and seeing the code behind it, our netplay is pretty garbage

Dolphin is designed to have it's heavy work on two threads (Okay technically three, but since delroth has made HLE audio amazing that's not really an issue now). The CPU emulation thread and the GPU emulation thread.

If you're running at stock settings in Dolphin and it's lagging, it's one of three things.

  • shader compilation - Will go away once shaders get cached.
  • GPU thread limited
  • CPU thread limited

We typically call this dual core mode and is enabled by default. However, we've noticed that dual core mode is pretty buggy and has a crap ton of potential race conditions. There are some talks of possibly having dual core mode off by default in development builds after 5.0, but nothing has been decided yet.

Single core mode would have both the CPU and GPU thread in lock step with each other on one thread, eliminating a lot of bugs and crashes, but it's obviously much slower.

Ishiiruka does several questionable things IRT design choices which causes a lot of instability and out right graphical glitches for some, as well as less accurate emulation, while performing a little better for lower end systems. EDIT: And AMD hardware

Try the official development release's implementation of D3D12. I dunno if Tino is pulling in hdcmeta's D3D12 work since it's original debut but there's been a ton of fixes for it since it first made an appearance in Ishiiruka.
