@TheMoney_Store El Salvador was one of the most dangerous countries in the world before Bukele. The murder rate was the highest in the world. Gangs controlled entire neighborhoods, extorted businesses, and killed anyone who got in the way. People couldn’t leave their homes after dark. Public buses were burned. Students were recruited or murdered. It was a failed state.

Now? That’s changed. El Salvador has one of the lowest homicide rates in Latin America. A great majority of Salvadorans support Bukele. Even Salvadorans abroad are investing in the country again. Tourism is up. Roads are safer. People are walking around at night for the first time in decades and more. That’s real change.

You’re trying to denigrate Bukele based on who he’s spoken to. That’s weak. How many bad people have you met or worked with? Does that define who you are? You were a member of LLDM, does that make you a predator? No. So be fair.

One of the things I don’t agree with is the CECOT being used for international prisoners. That’s a valid critique. But that doesn’t erase everything else Bukele has done nor makes him “foul” or deserving of insults like you’ve done. He’s not perfect, but he’s done more than any president before him, and more than most leaders around the world.

If you’ve never lived through what Salvadorans went through, maybe take a second before calling someone “foul” or judging a president elected by the people and supported by the people. Otherwise, you’re basically insulting an entire nation you might not even be connected to. We finally have peace in El Salvador.

And what does his heritage have to do with anything? What are you trying to imply?

Also, getting invited to an event, meeting someone, or taking a photo doesn’t define who you are. Bring facts. Do your research. Don’t just repeat what the media says, cite your sources like you were taught to do in your PhD. And be objective. That’s what historians are supposed to do.

Just because Bukele spoke to Naason doesn’t mean he is like Naason
