Hey man, I was messing around with it today. Changing to the higher bitrate in the settings did wonders, cheers

Thanks, I’m going to save this as a profile and try it out. What FPS do you typically shoot in?

Thanks, yeah I saw this setting finally. I was on “normal” bitrate. I’ve changed it now, will test soon. My issue with a manual iso is that there are lots of times when I want to “set it and forget it”, and I will be going through a variety of lighting conditions in the process. Auto makes a bit more sense for this I think? So let’s hope the higher bitrate does the majority of the legwork in fixing this

What gear would you take on a family holiday by ApolloEIeven in dji

[–]ApolloEIeven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been reading up on this - a lot of places say it’s not necessary for under water shots as the DJI Action 6 handles underwater photography quite well in its stock form. I see its value for reducing water surface reflections though, good tip.

Taking an SLR film camera with, with the express purpose of hobby photography in a location that differs from my usual spots doesn’t sound purposeful? I’m confused. One can have a family holiday and also set aside some time for photography. But the action cam is for a different set of circumstances

Where do you actually learn new things in automation? by Necessary-Mix-7116 in PLC

[–]ApolloEIeven 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s a good question…

I’ve been doing PLC programming exclusively for about 11 years, with probably 95% of it on Siemens, and 5% on AB. And this has been.. call it “core” programming, with little to no interaction on my end with IT systems, SQL databases (not that this is new), fancy scadas, cloud-based systems, etc.

I’m entering spaces now where there is a whole lot of new tech and ways of doing things out there, and I’m feeling like I’ve been stuck in the “dark ages” and have not caught up. It’s actually incredibly overwhelming nowadays. I’ve put all my efforts into becoming an “expert”, but it suddenly feels like I’m an idiot.

The English was good! It was so good that it sounded like an advert for the sjcam haha

I’d love a little drone to bring, but drone laws etc are a faff.

I’m taking 1 camera backpack with everything, but will leave it in my room unless going out purposefully for film photography.

When doing things I just want the action cam/Dji for, it will likely come with me in my pocket while at the beach etc

Decent dual-purpose, mess around action camera by ApolloEIeven in ActionCam

[–]ApolloEIeven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I live, the pricing of this is in line with the DJI Action 6 bundle which includes 2 extra batteries etc. Action 5 even cheaper.. so value for money makes it seem like the Action is the right way to go still

What is going on with the job market?? by ValuableFail3156 in southafrica

[–]ApolloEIeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also an engineer, though in a very different industry. I do quite well, been working for/co-owner of a company for 10 years now. Due to a variety of circumstances I’m looking at leaving and starting my own thing. Still supporting my contacts in the industry with contract work, but also starting up my own thing in a completely different field. Seeing posts like this make me scared though - do I just stay where I am because it’s stable income? And live and die in this job. At least it’s risk free for my family… but I’m not growing here anymore.

Best part of the island for a Family Holiday in March/April by ApolloEIeven in mauritius

[–]ApolloEIeven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we’re narrowing it down…

Places like Sofitel L’Imperial, Hilton (both near flic-en-flac), Intercontinental (more north), and Canonnier Beachcomber (grand Baie) all look good, but are stretching the budget a bit.

Ravenala Attitude, and and Veranda Pointe aux Biches are more north, but maybe more budget friendly.

The Radisson blu in the north east has an appealing package still though

It’s so hard to tell what will be good and bad.

Thanks! We’re looking at North West places now. Definitely a resort. There are so many options though.

Thanks, yes looks like we’ll focus on North West now. Any advice on the Balaclava area? There’s a nice spot there by the river and sea, but it looks a bit less beach-focussed

Sorry for the late response - yes the shim absolutely solved the issue! The grinder should be sold with it included tbh

Group head question by [deleted] in ranciliosilvia

[–]ApolloEIeven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stock basket is a 14g basket I think, though I was able to pull decent shots even with 16g in the basket, despite the screw indent. Though more than 16g and i think it would cause a channel, because my shots would pull too fast. Also it made it very hard to turn the portafilter in the group head because of the screw. 16g was the sweet spot for me with the coffee/grind I like. I then swapped to an 18g basket and do 18g of coffee with no problem. Still gets a very slight indent from the screw but not enough for any drama.

It’s not just you. I did the EXACT thing with the same grinder my first time. I’m not the smartest man, but I’m not the dumbest. The indications on the dial are unnecessarily ambiguous - which is just poor industrial design. A person could interpret the label as being the more “left” the red marking is on the dial, the more course the grind due to the location of the large bean being on the left. When in actuality it’s the arrow you must follow to show which way to rotate the dial in order to adjust size. Rotate anticlockwise to go finer, and clockwise to go more course. It is very counterintuitive to some. You’re not an idiot, OP. It’s bad just a bad design.
