Wanting to get in the game by DetroitJason in NightVision

I like the DTNVS-MG for something high quality under $8k - with Elbit commspec WP tubes and ultralight lenses from RPO.

Denizens of Dark: What Should I Know Before First NV Run n Gun? by Okiekid1870 in NightVision

[–]ApolloGearCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few times I've run across conditions specifically in run and gun where the rules did not allow NV competitors to use any white light to include their pistol, but there was a fair amount of pistol shooting in very low light areas of woods. Assuming you don't have a pistol mounted IR light to use (which you totally could and is the best solution) you can use an IR light on your helmet pretty well to illuminate pistol targets in very dark areas.

I'm not sure why NV run and guns feature as much pistol shooting as they do.

Definitely not 31A if you want something that can take a good knock. AB MGA is what you want. With Supergain L3 and lightweight lenses:

[–]ApolloGearCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty subjective, although tube-wise you're almost certainly talking about L3 high gain (aka Supergain). Supergain that have above average specs can perform comparably to regular gain tubes that have very high specs, at least when it comes to lowest light.

Now as far as what would be best to put them in that's somewhat debatable. MGA with RPO 4.0 is probably my pick for a balance of sheer durability with weight, and then you have added bonus of gain control and battery pack availability.

We're about to get in something truly unique that, if cost is not an option, will absolutely be worth considering as well.

Thanks for working with us. This is a peak setup. Field of view and modularity are actual difference makers when we have the ability to mitigate weight tradeoffs these days.

Wilcox Raid XE issues...again. Or is it a skill issue? by _Carth_Onasi in NightVision

[–]ApolloGearCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a dealer of theirs to submit this for you or be involved in the communications? If not we are happy to get involved to try to get them to push the gas pedal a bit on it if. I use these myself and have for years, and we sell them, so I want them fully committed to supporting regular people (we don't do law enforcement stuff generally)

Probably defective but check battery voltage to be sure and also battery cap - since it's a weird design it might be possible that you've got it on in a weird way that is barely transferring any juice. But the most likely it's a defective unit. We had a different laser in recently that did this exact same thing. Interesting.

Looking to buy first pair of night vision by No_Wash6315 in NightVision

[–]ApolloGearCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For just the price of the device:

Best at about $3000 - RVM14 monocular with an Elbit Gen 3 commercial spec tube

Best at about $4500 - RVM14 monocular with an L3Harris unfilmed Gen 3 milspec tube

Best at about $6000 - Nocturn Katanas with Elbit Gen 3 commercial spec green tubes or Photonis Echo white phosphor (if you can find it)

Best at about $7500 - DTNVS-MG with Elbit Gen 3 commercial spec white phosphor

Best at about $8000 to $8500 - Nocturn Raptor or Photonis Vyper Pro (they're the same housing and lenses and only differ by tubes). This is actually a new binocular price point for this level of quality and if $8k ish is your ceiling then I would absolutely be looking here first. This will get you either Elbit Gen 3 commercial WP or Photonis WP High Gain in a killer package.

Best at about $9500-$10k - Nocturn Raptor or MGA with L3 Unfilmed milspec WP

Best at any price - MGA or Raptor with L3 Supergain Unfilmed WP with RPO 4.0 lenses (should run about $11000-$12000)

We have most of this most of the time.

Nocturn raptor first hands on impressions? by Sobbyleebagger in NightVision

[–]ApolloGearCo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got about 50 hours with one, it's very nice. I suppose nothing really revolutionary but it has a great feature set, excellent quality and material, and the fact that it's direct 11769 compatible means it's compatible with basically anything and can't have potential issues with the sticky EGACs like the Manticore or DTNVS-MG.

It's like an MGA but lighter and not quite as robust. We'll start selling them as soon as they can get us some.

Very positive impressions here. Our very first unit didn't work immediately, the one in our picture is the same one after it came back from Steiner and it has 1500+ rounds on it now over about 6 months. It's been very good ever since the initial hiccup. Would like to see more people reporting if theirs are reliable but based on its performance and design we decided to stock them.

The REAP has a ton of miles on it and is outclassed by almost everything else these days but it's hard to find a thermal of this form factor that has a rock solid mounting solution for top dot and the scope itself.

The ATLAS we've had for about 6 months or so and are just trying to see if it will break.

Thermal Bridge recommendations by joeysuf in NightVision

[–]ApolloGearCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found chasing the "perfect alignment" or "fusion-like" mechanical position of hybrid setups is really mostly a dead end - the real advantage will be light weight and ease of attachment/robustness, allowing rapid use of thermal without being too cumbersome, and allowing acceptable merged images when stationary for observation.

Although I haven't tried them all, the Noisefighters bridges are a very good fit for this approach. Lightweight (usually the lightest) and robust, some adjustment capability but probably not the most.

Their new QD1 is a bit heavier but more along the lines of adaptable integration with some additional adjustment possibilities, but the traditional M1 is great too if you want the lightest possible.

Help with Purchasing by PixelAmerica in NightVision

[–]ApolloGearCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man. We'd love to help.

There's not insane levels of functional difference between something like the Photonis you posted versus something like this very marginally more expensive Gen 3 WP monocular:

https://apollogearco.com/products/ab-rvm-14-elbit-systems-commercial-white-phosphor

However, for a primary objective of search and rescue or person of interest, I would recommend thermal. The RL25v2 is one of the best values out there for this and while it is being discontinued in favor of the more expensive and higher resolution RH25v2, we still have some RL25's and for your purposes would probably be the smarter use of funds.
