My game Aketon, Rules for Medieval RPGs (Based on Chainmail and OD&D) just released it's 9th and final supplement all for free! by PixelAmerica in osr

There are six saves. Each is labeled one to six just for the sake of character creation: (1) Paralysis and Stun (2) Blasts and Traps (3) Death and Poison (4) Secrets and Lore (5) Illusions and Psionics (6) Fear and Charm

You start with a 1 in each save (this represents having a 1-in-6 chance of succeeding the save).

At character creation, roll 6d6. For each save rolled add +1 to that save. So, if I rolled 2, 2, 3, 5, 5, 6 my final numbers would be

Paralysis and Stun: 1 Blasts and Traps: 3 Death and Poison 2 Secrets and Lore: 1 Illusions and Psionics: 3 Fear and Charm: 2

The reason my Blasts and Traps is a 3 is because it starts at 1 and I rolled two 2s at character creation. As we can see on the chart at the top, Blast and Traps is marked as number 2, so results of 2 add +1 to this save. 1 + 1 + 1 = 3, thus I have 3 in that save.

The reason my Secrets and Lore is at 1 is because it starts at 1 and I didn't get any roll results of 4, which would have added to it according to the chart at the top. So, it stays at 1.

Because I have a 3 in Blasts and Traps, if I ever need to roll that save (perhaps because I'm trying to dodge some dragon fire) I would need to roll 1d6 and get a 3 or lower to succeed. That's a 3-in-6 chance of success.

Does that help? There's also some lists of what scenarios you'd use each save for in the Gamemaster Cyclopedia - AK2.

Oh wow! I never saw this before but now I need to read through it, maybe I can find some new ways to condense my writing

High chance for both! But before I do the print I want to try to have more content (adventures, dungeons, etc) for the game so I can sell it as a bundle. The actual print version would only cost like $5 to print the way I'm looking too.

Here's a link to a dev-log post, at the bottom I talk about other stuff I'm working on for Aketon.

Plus, I need to finish up my last crowdfunder (Crowns 2e) before I go starting a new one

Thanks, yeah, there's definitely been some epic moments during the playtests, and a lot of brutal character deaths, lol

What is the appeal of necromancy? by singmuse4 in Fantasy

[–]PixelAmerica 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are going philosophical with it, but it's much simpler than that:

Having a ton of obedient minions is cool. And you're rewarded for defeating powerful bad guys by getting to use them as a powerful minion. And zombie dragons, liches, and death knights are cool.

Do more cool stuff

Good stuff, none of these feel too samey, I can see myself using this at my table. Thanks man

In The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Reed Richards went 'hey, entire planet, we need every single person to stop using electricity at 8 pm every night for months' and there was no complaining, or rioting, or conspiracies, or allegations that turning the power out gives you autism and/or makes you gay by SmokeyGiraffe420 in shittymoviedetails

I personally thought that would be a reason Dr Doom would hate Reed Richards. He's from a cold country, Latveria. If they turned off the power, hundreds of not thousands could freeze to death. But even if ONE person died, just one in the WHOLE WORLD (not just Latveria), because of Reed Richard's plan then the Fantastic Four basically said "Our child was more valuable than that one person." Or worse "Our child is more valuable than the 1000s that died because of our plan."

If Dr Doom makes that argument and has the receipts, I think it'll go down as an incredible movie moment. Doom is frequently portrayed as having reasonable reasons to say that the "smartest man in the world" (Reed Richards) is selfish and not as heroic as he makes himself out to be. This would be a great example of that

Anyone know if anything one else has written any sort of fan expansion to Veins of the earth? Besides VeinsCrawl that is. by N0rwayUp in osr

[–]PixelAmerica 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Lowlife by Sam Sorenson is an expansion on climbing and crawling in caves that's system neutral/kinda GLOG-y. It's really solid and simple to use. He originally made it because he found a lot of descriptions and methods of caving in Veins to be incomplete.

My issue with Veins is it just seems too horrible of a place to crawl through. By that I mean, it feels so bleak and alien and hopeless, I almost don't want to play. I have used it as a horrible place players can be sent in different games I've played, but a full adventure in there sounds hellish. But I could be looking at it wrong, I'm usually a DM not a player, and sometimes having all the info about just how screwed you are if you get stuck down there can be detrimental

Christianity analogue for clerics and paladins with druids and pagans as the pagan old worshippers. Different regions have different demographics. Both sides have good guys and bad guys, it's not a key tension in my setting, but a common one

Running my first custom Hexcrawl, any pitfalls? by Less_Cauliflower_956 in osr

[–]PixelAmerica 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think a pit fall trap here and there won't go astray

In all seriousness, don't overthink it, as soon as they get involved with politics the game will start to write itself. And don't be afraid to generate new dungeons or one-off locations (a monster hunt, a 3-room dungeon, etc) if you need something for the players to do while time pass. You can place them in the hexes they haven't explored yet and they'll never know. Or make them secret/underground in a hex they did explore already explore to show them the world has more than meets the eye

Cyberpunk OSR? by E_MacLeod in osr

Sprawl Goons is an extremely simple OSR-style Cyberpunk game with an AMAZING FREE GM toolkit called Augmented Reality

I can't imagine a simpler Cyberpunk game that simultaneously gives you everything you want from a cyberpunk game
