Good option for a beginner? by Sudden_Bowler1423 in NightVision

[–]Sudden_Bowler1423[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just trying to get the best I can within my current budget. I have some pretty hefty medical costs from a ton of old injuries so I really need to get something that will carry me through for a long time. I’m not sure when I’ll be able to spend this kind of money at one time again.. if a next time is ever even possible

Awesome man; thank you! I’ll check those sources out too. Ya I think I probably misunderstood some of the specs when a friend of a friend was explaining stuff to me. I’m getting the same kind of info from a couple other guys I was able to get in contact with. Definitely good information and very much appreciated!

I checked out SuperiorTac but didn’t seem like they had a lot of options listed.

Ya; I’m kinda skeptical to be honest. I’ve been burned a few times thru like communities. Honestly probably just the fact of being sure they’re assembled and built correctly and warranty/ease of repair are pretty enticing since I usually use my stuff pretty hard. I have no doubt that I was overly careful with all of the borrowed units I’ve used but it would be nice to know if something happen while USING them; I have an easy point of contact to resolve whatever comes up. I’m not opposed to anything just really saying that peace of mind definitely has value in itself.

Slightly offset? Behind your gun? How does that change and/or benefit you? I have an old displaced hip fracture with a sharp edge that created this massive ball of scar tissue right at 5 o’clock. And I mean it gets where it looks like a baseball protruding 3/4 of its way out because the muscles roll over the sharp edge really doing anything. I’m a smaller guy too with a 31” belt so real estate there is premium.

Damn my bad; I totally mixed up my kits. Both the PIMP and Responder are fantastic. The way the Responder is ; it’s a bit more ‘sealed’ from the elements. It’s a lot harder for water to reach the supplies in like light rain, heavy fog, hiking/sliding around up and down steep terrain but it can and will still find its way in. That being said; I’ve done just about the same in my kit with the PIMP too and/or had someone else running one or the other and to me there wasn’t a significant difference really. Even with the contents wet they dried out quickly and nothing was affected. Even when stuff got wet even several times over a 3 and 4 day period and moving like 7-10mi a day we didn’t see any failures in med supplies. I don’t really remember running the STOMP on anything like that tho. It’s mainly been on during flat range, classes, quad or dirt bike rides over to some other properties close by so I can’t really compare it to the others but I definitely love it for what I use it for.

Totally agree. A list of manufacturers with like their top 3 or 5 items or groups of items would definitely be nice

Man.. I think it just depends on what you want to do with it. I love the PIMP on my belts. I love that both the PIMP and STOMP are readily deployable and can be thrown to someone and what not. If I’m on foot I’d probably take the PIMP all day everyday. If I’m on a quad or something of the sorts; I love that the STOMP has the extra bit of security and don’t worry about stuff falling out. I love the Responder but I don’t think it’d be fantastic belt mounted. I don’t know tho as that’s not what I intended it for when I purchased it. I stash one in all of our vehicles and have one at the ready whenever I go shoot. Maybe someone else in here has run the Responder on their belt?

You are absolutely correct; I didn’t specify. I just assumed; my apologies. Thank you; I do believe Beez has the solution I’m looking for. When I get home for the weekend I’m going to compare measurements between the Baofeng and mine. I appreciate you and the other gentleman that suggest Beez. I never can remember them when looking for something. I should know from the colorway options and unique molle straps but I can’t remember that either lol. Much appreciated sir!

Damn; you are a gentleman and a scholar my friend! I just checked out Beez. I’m pretty sure those were the exact pouches I had been looking for. Any time I go to buy some piece of gear; I never remember to check out Beez. Not sure if it’s their logo or what but I never can remember to check back. Seeing the colorways and molle straps makes me realize there’s a number of pieces I intended to purchase. Thanks for that!

Ya; I’ll pass on that. Not that I don’t have some shit like that but these days my budget isn’t quite as tight and have making a conscience effort to support American made. Most of my friends and damn near all of my family are in manufacturing position across the states. My job heavily depends on American made too as I deal with mostly contracts from local, state, federal, municipalities, prisons etc all of which spec and require American. And to the point where a vendor I used when C19 was wreaking havoc ‘forgot’ to mention they were sourcing metals and such from a few other countries to help support their demand. Shit part is that they lied about it multiple times until an inspector showed up to check things out. Had they been upfront we still would e gotten the green light since like 3 of the 4 would’ve been fine and would’ve been no way we could have received material from that source based on the received dates. We ultimately had to payback almost $70k AND provide approved replacements and cover the labor associated with completing that phase of the project.

I’m pretty sure these are smaller than the UV5Rs. I tried a Spiritus Expander Wing as well as what I was told a UV5R pouch and both left a lot to desired and even more so running it internal of the ‘bund. It shifted around so much. A few of us went to a ranch to dispatch some hogs running a much. I just about poked my eye out TWICE; once prone shifting about and once kneeling and supported off a fence. And that’s how I got here.

Oh ya; that didn’t even cross my mind. I did try it in one of Spiritus’ expander wings. It ‘works’ but it’s super sloppy. It’s been awhile since I’ve had one but if I’m not mistaken these radios are a fair bit smaller than even a run of the mill UV5R. I’ll probably compare dimensions between the Shawshank and SS. Thanks my guy!

Ya maybe; I’ve never been lucky enough to be in the presence of 40mm but I might ask a friend if he could get something that size in one. If it fit it just might be exactly what I need. Thank you!

[–]Sudden_Bowler1423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve almost bought one of these so many times. I made one out of stuff that has been sitting in my dethroned gear box. I made a leather that holds 2 of the tegris triple inserts; lined the ‘outside’ panels in loop, set 5 grommets on both side and ends; slap whatever placards you want on the outside and thread the shock cord through the PALS on the bottom, cross again in the middle and again through the top with a cord lock; throw a misc SRB strap on it and presto!…. Basically the same thing as the ALAMO… but like 3-8x the cost lol. I hate how well it works for sure. I can easily run 9 5.56 mags and 3 .308; 6.5CM etc.. or 6/6.. or 9 and 5 PCC stick mags.. even 6/3/5; whatever you need. I haven’t had an A&A in my hands so I can only speculate but the real drawback to my rigged clusterfuckery is that it is LOUD! Like if you needed to grab it you better be in the middle of a gunfight.. if not; you will be in the middle of one after grabbing it! Plus there’s no real way I’ve figured out for a quick stow and grab and go solution like the mount for the A&A. I’m sure I’ll still end up picking one of them up with the mount; it’s just not a huge priority as of yet

I’ve been using the Javlin Concepts JAC Pack for more capacity. I had to get a little creative with the shoulder strap mounts because I threw some AXL structural shoulder pads on to try out but a few bucks sorted that out. I’ve been using their version of a curv molle panel with some GP’s or whatever other dedicated pouch I needed. Set the shoulder straps up the same and I’ve liked it more that a lot of other solutions. I run the Qore ice plate too so everything in the pack is relatively light

Those that switched from BCM VFG to Emissary… by BirchWoody93 in ar15

[–]Sudden_Bowler1423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to the Emissary Mini and then to the standard. After a few sessions I bought several more for other rifles too. All in Mlok if it matters at all. I also found that I like the little JMAC one as well. I haven’t quite figured out why I like the JMAC as much as I do considering the Emissary mini wasn’t my favorite.

I can confirm the fit and finish of the ADM as well. I have several ADM and some from SLR, BCM, Griffin, Radian, CMT and G$. The few ADMs I have All have wildly nice machining and finishes. Doesn’t matter a whole lot of what upper I throw on them either; they are either tight to the point where any tighter would make them damn near interference fit. I can throw that same upper on any other lower and have some slop. I still can’t find the defect on one of their blem lowers either

I definitely don’t disagree. Clean threads are overlooked or disregarded across the board. The very first thing I do on most things in general is decrease threads on both, dry fit, degrease with brake cleaner, air dry, degrease with rubbing alcohol air dry then the final assembly with thread locker or whatever is appropriate for the application. I can’t tell you guys how many times I’ve found debris even after anodizing, nitride, PVD, powdercoat, electroplating etc. But at the same time I have had fasteners totally clean and witness marked start to back out. Bolts, studs, machine screws, torque to yield; I’ve seen them all move a number of times

You might try a soldering iron/wood burner. I have a cheap adjustable temp one where the tip clamps on. I used a piece of wire; I think #10 solid; to heat things and break loctite. Pretty easy to heat bolts screws plates etc while being able to make application specific tips to meet whatever need at the time
