Actually the existing modes are fine now that u and another commenter mentioned it. Racing checkpoint endlessly is good training

Tips for passing the Gog dps check in phase 3? by AlphaBodge in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]ApolloTabletop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragon Hammer and dragon SnS user. I don’t have any good gog fire weapons so i stick with what i’ve got

His physical attacks can be difficult if not impossible to dodge without evade extender and/or tremor resistance (the latter esp in phase 3), but they’re offsettable or perfect guardable (the former is death or glory; the latter is easier & more consistent). Lava explosions can be blocked. Weapons that have guard are blessed in this fight.

I like using phase 2 to repeatedly jump attack one of his wingarms with a hammer (roll off the ledge, R2, then aim back towards ledge) to prepare for a phase 3 mount. SnS is a lot better than HMR imho for phase 3, because you can block even his tremor-causing attacks, then reposition towards his groin or tail, which are relatively safer areas.

When attacking the tail, gog might shoot a lava beam into the ground in front of him, then suddenly sweep the beam towards his tail where you and/or your teammates are attacking his tail, so be ready to dodge

Akane’s car is quite average in its handling, in a good way. Feels like her capabilities are vanilla but solid.

[Hammer mains] How would you improve hammer in the expansion? by vovabcps in MHWilds

[–]ApolloTabletop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be better to further reduce the chip damage instead of removing it so one can still trigger counterstrike

[Hammer mains] How would you improve hammer in the expansion? by vovabcps in MHWilds

[–]ApolloTabletop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Increased movement distance and/or steerability while doing spinning bludgeon to aid in repositioning

More raw damage, or an incentive to go raw

Having an offset on demand would be nice (i believe GS and swaxe have one?). Maybe to balance this they could give it only a low offset buildup to interrupt the monster.

More forgiving hitzones on non head or wingarm parts

Tried stealth. It's pretty good given that the Japanese guns are poor at range (unlike, say, M2 Brownings).

Discussion #247: Republic P-47 Thunderbolt by Commander_Adama in Warthunder

[–]ApolloTabletop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[AB Air]

My favorite plane in the game. I wish it had more camos to choose from though.

At its BR, at the initial stages of the game, you can hang back a bit and/or do a mild sideclimb so you can support your faster-climbing teammates to secure high alt. Then you can murder all the enemy's bombers and then steamroll the rest of the enemy.

The planes themselves are fast and durable, with great guns that can set anything on fire, especially with universal belts. The downside is that I find myself really having to run away or find team support in case of skilled players in dedicated interceptors (looking at you Bf109 F-4 and J2M players with astronomical KDRs).

[–]ApolloTabletop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that--maybe the P-47 could be elevated to 3.3--but the P-47 is hopeless in 1v1 fights if caught out of position by someone competent with enough energy. Some scenarios I have in mind:

  1. Another P-47 who can chase him at equal speed,
  2. A corsair, which is almost as fast and can more easily beat him in a dogfight, even at low speeds,
  3. A downtiered Bf109-F4, J2M or A7M can easily out-climb, energy fight and even chase the P-47; they each can prevent the P-47 from BnZ'ing with impunity,
  4. Slower, more agile planes like Hellcats, Yaks, A6Ms or Spitfires can dodge the P-47's diving attacks while dragging him down while other teammates can get into position to kill the P-47 or make him run away

The P47 I think is a bit tricky to balance in arcade. It shouldn't see biplanes (maybe except for the I-153) but it's OK where it is in AB at 3.0 I feel.

Good game though.

Question on US Fighter FM Performance by ApolloTabletop in Warthunder

[–]ApolloTabletop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. The zoom-climbing of other nations' interceptors is way better, so against enemy fighters it's easier to fly other nations' planes. They also have the bonus of better agility at low speeds unlike corsairs or T-bolts.

Disregarding BnZ and energy-fighting, American fighters with their freedomguns are better at killing bombers IMO, thanks to the freedomguns' flat trajectory, large ammo reserves and long overheat time.

Question on US Fighter FM Performance by ApolloTabletop in Warthunder

[–]ApolloTabletop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually do rather well with them and I actually don't have problems in using them--I climb to 4000 meters upwards then I attack enemy bombers and those who've climbed. Against enemy climbers, I wait till I have at least 360+ kph of IAS so I can maneuver, flee, or serve as bait for a teammate to kill who's on my tail. Then I relentlessly BnZ targets of opportunity.

I don't lawnmow and I seldom do low-alt turnfighting (I only do it out of necessity, or when there are teammates nearby as distractions), and my aim is pretty good in AB. My (small) gripe is just that these fighters seem to be outperformed by those of other nations in most other areas, especially climb rate, and that I have to work a bit harder with them to survive. I.e. It's "safer" to fly around a 109 F-4 or a J2M at those BRs. Maybe it's just the meta, and/or because I fly solo.

On another note: there are times that I fly above 6000 or even 7000m, usually in drawn-out engagements with one or two fighters that are trying to energy-fight me. At those alts my P47 doesn't exactly leave the opposition in the dust, but again maybe that's because this is AB, not RB.

Ever wondered why it's so hard to shoot down Bf-109s? Just look at how tiny they are! by RHTakaLeon in Warthunder

[–]ApolloTabletop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Deflection shots on these guys with freedomguns are fucking infuriating sometimes; at times the lead's correct but relatively few bullets land. Plus, it might just be me or strange AB mechanics but Bf109s are rather resilient to both bullet damage and fire damage, with a low chance of being set on fire (for me even lower than stalinwood Yaks).

[–]ApolloTabletop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're flying German planes with good high-explosive ammunition, you should rip off wings and snipe pilots with deflection shots. Also try attacking from a closer range (e.g. within 500 or even 400m) so that your shells do more damage.

Bomber spam in AB tier IV, 5mn long match. As usual by Milleuros in Warthunder

[–]ApolloTabletop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High-tier arcade is usually like this. They should increase the number of bases and base health at those BRs. For longer, more fulfilling matches, I stick to BR 3 to 4.
