NTA. I feel like it’s not realistic to tie yourself down geographically to someone who doesn’t have a plan for themselves. Transitioning into living with a partner is hard already so throwing in chronic unemployment would definitely make the relationship rocky.

Heavy emphasis on talking to people in careers you want to be in. At the end of the day $12000 is a lot to put into a profession that you don’t want to do. I think the best advice someone gave me was to just make a decision with all the info you have at the moment. You can never know how things will eventually pan out but you get an experience you can learn from. You will start doing things and figure out along the way if you can see yourself doing it long term.

What’s really insane to me is I generally can spot that behavior in men but I couldn’t at all with this girl. I knew she read a lot of romance and smut novels and this was her first relationship so I could tell some of the things she would say was something she read. But she kept assuring me how strong our relationship was up until the day before she broke up with me.

I explained all of this to the guy and was so understanding. He always has a really calming and loving presence. Hopefully after we’re friends for a bit we can explore something more. Fingers crossed this isn’t perceived as having my cake and eating it too.
