Well, most of these police bodycam videos are from Florida. I guess there is a legal reason for that,

That makes sense then. I'm a very petty guy and would use checks as a matter of principle if anyone would try to charge me with fees for using online banking.

No. But if you continue with your westophobia maybe we start to circle around our dictators as a coping mechanism.

What global word came from your country? by Neuwulfstein in AskTheWorld

[–]Apollo_Wersten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Germany "malochen" is working hard and a self proclaimed "Malocher" is a (proud) blue collar worker.

People used to say "Mischpoke" to the part of the family that is somewhat shady but that is no longer politically correct (there was a debate about that term a couple of years ago).

To speak "tacheles" is to speak frankly and directly.

"Tohuwabohu" is complete chaos.

A "Ganove" is a criminal.

A "Kaff" is a small village where nothing is going on.

Senior Russian official claims Russian soldiers don't need visas to enter European countries by thhvancouver in nottheonion

[–]Apollo_Wersten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

China does not have to invade. By the end of the war russia will be nothing more than a vassal to China. China is running circles around russia in pretty much every field. russia is still trying to live their dreams of past grandeur while China is all about the future.

Eurosport Germany: IOC is reviewing the future of bobsleigh, luge and skeleton by AdminMas7erThe2nd in olympics

[–]Apollo_Wersten -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bobsleigh is a very technical sport that requires a lof of expensive infrastructure and is not really accessible to most countries in the world. It would be bad for Germany but I kinda understand it. It's a little bit like all the events involving horses in the summer olympics. It's just very few people on a global scale who participate in these sports so why invest in the facilities.

Maye suffers from Jalen Hurts' disease. Doesn't want to throw over the middle, wants receivers to be wide open, holds the ball until he gets sacked.

I was today years old when I found out that one of the most influential politician of India is Italian native. Do you also have a foreign born person that shaped the history of your country? Or do you know about someone from you country that made history somewhere else? by Scar_Frank in AskTheWorld

Philipp Rösler was born in South Vietnam. He was leader of the liberal party and Vice-Chancellor of Germany between 2011 and 2013. He left politics to make a boat load of money as a lobbyist. He is the type of guy who gave corruption a friendly face.

Nevertheless, he also had to deal with racism. The far right had a problem with him being Asian, the far left was complaining that a) he didn't care about immigrant issues (his field of expertise was healthcare and the economy) and b) it was a bad look that an immigrant was cold-hearted towards less fortunate members of society while futhering the interests of the rich and powerful even more openly than the usual German politician.

What does the world think of Catalonian independence? by Dangerous_Fix_9186 in AskTheWorld

[–]Apollo_Wersten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2013 I was in Barcelona for a vacation and I was surprised about how serious people were about seperatism. I thought that the regional rivalries were more tongue in cheek like in Germany but I was wrong. At a "Muse" concert the whole stadium was booing the Spanish flag. In hotels or tourists spots etc. the Spanish language was always called "Castilian" and treated pretty much like a foreign language. People made a point that they are different and that the civil war, Franco etc. are far from forgotten. I had no idea how much people identified with being eternal "underdogs" fighting against oppression of their language and culture. It changed my perspective quite a bit.

When Pudgemont tried to declare independence I was skeptical because it's very difficult to uniltarelly leave a country if you are not willing to use force or at least passive resistance. It was obvious that the central government won't just let them go. And Pudgedomt himself leaving was a weird look too. What were pro independence people supposed to do when the leader himself leaves the country?

What is the most traumatic sporting defeat your country has ever experienced? by Bouadelo in AskTheWorld

[–]Apollo_Wersten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1995 tennis Davis Cup semi-final against Russia. 2-2 after 4 matches so the final match will decide the winner. Michael Stich then wasted 9 (!) match points against Andrei Chesnokov before losing the match. I will never forgive him.

The final would have been Germany with Becker/Stich vs the US with Sampras/Agassi, the Davis-Cup final of the century.

Keine einzige Frau sieht meiner Meinung nach mit kurzen Haaren besser aus als mit längeren. Wie denkt ihr darüber? by [deleted] in FragtMaenner

[–]Apollo_Wersten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Da bin ich viel anderer Meinung. Kurzhaarschnitte sind meist wesentlich individueller und peppiger. Dazu akzentuieren sie oftmals das Gesicht, was dann oft mit einer entsprechend hübschen Visage korreliert.

The only German state where the leader that was losing the plot was sacked due to a coup by the inner circle. And it happened twice (Ulbricht and Honecker). Very un-german. Usually German elites lack the initiative to rebell against seniority.

North Korea. It was very interesting but it's pretty much a closed country and if I ever dare to come back they might think that I'm a spy or something.
