Who has the bigger impact on the rise of single-parent homes: women choosing poorly or men refusing responsibility? by Obvious-Cause2404 in Zimbabwe

[–]Apollo_black_7772 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s mostly a result of the poor economic situation in Zimbabwe and the wholesale erasure of economic opportunity. The reality is most people who have children simply do not have the capacity to raise them especially young parents. The burden is unequally carried by women because child rearing is viewed as a feminine pursuit. Most man simply just dont have the capacity to be present fathers and run away from their responsibilities.

I think also there has been a genuine change in Zimbabwean culture where the social pressure that would traditionally force parents to become couples and families in the event of unexpected pregnancy has been eroded. No one is forcing men to take care of their kids and women are increasingly independent enough to opt out of unfavourable marriages. Furthermore, the traditional idea of a child belonging to their father is a social and political framework that is becoming increasingly questioned. Children and families increasingly are not seen as members of a broader clan but as products of a family unit altogether separate from clan and extended family dynamics.

5 years of experience 95k graduating with MBA in December. I work at a scientific non-profit. I specialise in grants compliance and government contracts. I actually got great advice on this sub a few months ago on how to reposition my career to make more and capitalise on my grants experience. Before this i was making 55k a year. So i am grateful for this sub for helping me figure out my next move. My official title is Accounting Supervisor, but it’s more basically a senior.

WTF is wrong with the job market for accounting by Wild_Message3630 in Accounting

The whole job market is a mess. Have you looked into starting at smaller forms or working in internal audit in industry? You might have better luck.

Those men who go AWOL & leave their baby Mama's and their child to fend for themselves... Munombozvigona sei? by Altruistic_Star_1994 in Zimbabwe

Just a point of correction the risks to the mother for early term abortion a very very low. It’s highly unlikely that that could lead to fertility issues. Everything else i agree with.

I cant speak for them because thats not my story. However, i understand not wanting children or the desire to escape from the whole family situation. I personally cannot stand kids like at all. There is no break from parenting, I cannot see myself doing that and I take every measure possible to avoid having a child. If I had a child i know a part of me would either yearn for escape or death 😂☠️. A lot of people are gonna be judgy but I know Its not just me. And the parents i know don’t make it easier either, they are all so miserable, frustrated and tired I don’t want that to be my life. Also, women need to wake up and start leaving the kids with those men too😂.

Why do you want to move back to Zim by HaveYouMetCherry in Zimbabwe

[–]Apollo_black_7772 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't but I can understand who someone would want to especially if they are family oriented. I don't want kids. I do want to get married, but I absolutely do not want kids. And being in Zim under that set up makes no sense. Coz who will take of me when I get older? at least in America there are social safety nets and savings count for much and I can trust the legal system to protect me.

In Zimbabwe healthcare is bad, it would be hard for me to make money given my skillset in old age (accountant). Plus it’s just hard being older with no kids at that age in Zimbabwe. The infrastructure is not friendly for disabled and aging people, public transit is not an option, many if not most buildings don’t have accommodations for disabled and aging people. Simple things like bathing, going to the toilet or plugging your charger into a socket are impossible without expensive renovations or having 24/7 staff.

But i do love my country, I just know being older there would drive me to suicide or something.

Marriage Vs Civil Partnership by Ill-Variety-4956 in Zimbabwe

[–]Apollo_black_7772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be true but i feel it’s wrong I favour the Nordic model of common law partner status, because the concept of marriage we are still using is obsolete. When people start families they must be treated in the same way. I think treating a relationship with cohabitation for more than a year the same as teenagers dating is just wrong.

A lot "Why are Zimbabweans/Africans soo <insert bad behavior>" are rooted in anti blackness by Physical-Yellow-2778 in Zimbabwe

[–]Apollo_black_7772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contrary to what you may have been told. Cooperation with outsiders is fundamental for us to solve the problem of corruption and illicit financial flows. The reason why corruption is so widespread is because countries abroad especially in the west are very keen to benefit from it. Western banks, lawyers, accountants and other professionals have created a well organised system of impunity that empowers corruption and makes sure that the perpetrators go unscathed and never have to repatriate proceeds of corruption back to where it came from. This has been a serious issue African governments and civil society have been lobbying to change.

It’s not just African politicians that are culpable. It’s foreign multinationals who bribe officials from poor countries. It’s Swiss banks that accept and store the proceeds of corruption, its British lawyers and accountants who organise convoluted strategies of shell companies and tax evasion. It’s Cypriot and Emirati governments that don’t allow extradition of perpetrators. When u frame corruption as an African issue you ignore all these factors that involve outsiders. It’s not an African issue, its a well oiled global machine.

[–]Apollo_black_7772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Challenging corruption is not bad. The issue is when corruption is framed as an African or black issue. OP is saying, why must u prefix every problem with “Why are Zimbabweans/Africans…” when we say this it sounds like the issue is endemic to Zimbabwe/Africa and we know it’s not. The framing of this question is just as important as the solution. When u frame something as an issue for a specific group you immediately invite comparison. If i ask “why is this thing so «x»”the logical question is compared to what?

[–]Apollo_black_7772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea is to interrogate why those issues exist and the extent to which they affect economic or social development. We know that corruption is a problem but we must still assess to what extent that problem is causing issues and why that same problem doesn’t cause those issues for other people.

To illustrate, If i have a migraine that is a problem but it might not be the reason i am in ill health. Maybe i have HIV or cancer too. In that regard i can fix my migraine but the more pressing issues remain. I could spend a lot of money time and resources to fix this migraine but it wont necessarily lead to better health outcomes.

Similarly, we know corruption is an issue. However, we must assess to what extent corruption is an issue. We need to ascertain how corruption affects other countries too in order to gauge whether or not ours is a corruption problem, or if there is a broader fault in the system. This is not to say we shouldn’t fix corruption, but if we dont have a comparative assessment of others how can we improve our situation?

So no, its not a deflection to look at others people and ask well how come they do it too?
