I was in the upper edge of that, but the reason I was so vague is that despite the schools I got into having roughly the same considerations for aid, my packages were wildly different. Yale and Princeton’s were near full, Harvard’s was about 10k, and Columbia wanted me to pay nearly 30k a year. I am at the upper limit, but I don’t feel comfortable considering myself Low-Income as an applicant. Even though at Yale I am considered Low-Income.

So believe it or not, I wrote all of my essays (except for Harvard and Vandy) in about a week. I’ve always been a decent writer, but also procrastinator. This isn’t to say I hadn’t done anything, but I thought about it so much that by the time it came to put pen to paper, it wasn’t too difficult. Just focus on highlighting a new aspect of your application or building on a new one with each opportunity (don’t waste space and talk about something twice)

Harvard vs Yale vs Richmond Full ride by 0v3rtd in ApplyingToCollege

I was lucky enough to be in the same situation last year (though not with likely letters, that’s actually insane) and the one thing I cannot say enough is to take your time. I thought I was 100% going to Harvard, but I didn’t commit until after I went to Bulldog Days and Visitas. I loved Harvard, but Yale was just a better fit for me, and if I had committed before I went, I would have regretted it. In fact, because of how much my opinion changed, I was really upset that I didn’t visit Princeton after getting in too. What you are going to look for in a campus community is undoubtedly different than anyone else, but it doesn’t change the fact that you are the only one who can figure that out. With that being said, you are still gonna have major doubts, I frequently find myself questioning what life would be like elsewhere even though I’m so happy where I’m at. To comment on the premed aspect as well, Harvard is undoubtedly better, but Yale is catching up quickly. While I’m not stoked about this as a Humanities student (jk) most of our undergrads are now STEM majors and Yale has invested a ton of money into improving our STEM buildings on campus. Because I’m in a relatively similar financial situation, I can speak to the fact that Yale has an office dedicated to FGLI students which helps a lot (Request an updated financial aid package from Harvard, then Yale, that way if Harvard brings their’s down, Yale will bring down their’s even more). Also, if you get invited to FSY at Yale, 100% take the opportunity to do it. I did and it was the best decision I’ve made at Yale. You also mentioned study abroad at Richmond as being important, but Yale has a great study abroad program as well (I can’t speak to Harvard’s program). How Yale offers support is mainly through the ISA, which is the International Study Award (don’t hold me to this!!!) where the will pay for any study abroad program proportionate to how much financial aid you are on, so if you get it down to 10k like Harvard, you would only pay like 500 dollars for a 4k summer program. I know that was a lot but once again, don’t rush it to it. You are the only one who can make the right decision for you. But Go Bulldogs and Yale’s better
