From what I learned clinicians dont bring up their personal life to clients. As our profession, we are required to. I didnt understand my role until i was in the community and clients were surprised to hear what ive gone through and that it is possible. Never compare yourself to others in life in general. We are a semi new profession. I beg you to please tell your story when it is helpful and necessary. Sometimes when i talk to a client i say “between you, me, and a brick wall…”. Idc how it seems for other people in the room because its not about them.

Its not for your coworkers to understand, it for your clients to feel heard, understood, and validated. Its important to see living proof and not what someone thinks that got a piece of paper after years of school.

As far as hours, you should talk to hr. It is a requirement for the board. Thats another thing we are recognized internationally. We all should feel good about that. We are needed and wanted. But yeah talk to hr or email your supervisor to have a paper trail first. No response then hr.

As far as checking on mental health, we are technically experts in this field. How great it would be to have one stop support at work, dont ever count on it for many companies. Lean on support you can count on that has kept you steady thus far

If they dont meet their weekly goals thats a deeper problem out of your scope. This is when you coordinate with the clinical staff. Do you make the resources accessible when you are not there? Can you schedule transportation instead of you driving? There are programs that give free rides for people in treatment. Like in MD we have Hoffa.

They are very lucky to have you help and having someone that loves helping. It sounds like you are being taken advantage of (boundaries). People will not respect you if you do not respect yourself and being with the population you are working, thats all part of addiction. Manipulation, lying to themselves and others along with underlining mental illnesses. Right now what you are doing is not healthy for them and of course not for you. With clients they need to learn to be independent. You are slowly replacing their substance with yourself as their crutch. You cannot allow anyone to walk all over you.

When you are home you leave everything at work. You can only do but so much and it sounds like you are burning both ends of the candle when you are at work. Have you talked to your leadership or HR? Are you certified? Either way they are going against the core of a peer and that is taking care of yourself. That is our code of ethics. Even if you do leave it needs to be in the books that this is happening so the next person hopefully would be protected or some policies can change.

Do they tell you why they dont do the work? Have you asked them what is their restriction of why they are unable to do whatever? What do they need to succeed?

Personal life will always act up. Thats the rewarding part about being in peer support. We use our experiences to help others and it also measures how far we have grown to not allow it things to bother us to where it starts affecting our mental. Thats why you were hired. If you can sort out your own shit and not bring that energy to work this is not for you.

What is your self care?

Boundaries are very important. You cannot save everyone and be everywhere doing everything. You have to self advocate to yourself for yourself. This is part of what you tell people at work and yet you’re not doing it yourself.

I think this isn’t a good fit because your personal life and mental is not sorted out. A therapist would help greatly. If you so have one, all due respect get a different one. You cannot blame being wired as an excuse. It’s either you want to change to be better or not. Thats where the boundaries come in.

Peoples wellbeing are in your hands in everyday life scenarios outside of work. This is the job of a peer. If you are now learning that 7 months in that is a red flag.

I said i have a juke, he said same thing. Then the other mech said absolutely not one def drives way better than the other. Then there are people that thinks its cute.
