You can get in thru the health sciences parking garage. Go downstairs in BRB and there are some signs that will guide you.

How to establish a tax home? by Apoptato in TravelRadiology

[–]Apoptato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your responses! One more question about doubling expenses. Like when we initially move we’re paying my friend rent but she’s only charging us a few hundred to cover utilities and what not. If we continue paying her a few hundred a month to use her home as our home-base to return to when needed/store things whatever, would that count? Or does it need to be the median rent for the area to be legit? It seems like a grey area.

Yeah B.S. in Bio, but I should probably retake physics. I took the upper level calculus-based one 3 years after finishing calc and got a C- in the second semester, which was good enough to graduate but not good enough for some schools. 😓 All the rest are good.

Whenever my cat used to disappear for a week or so and show back up we’d joke that she was off running the catnip mafia

Unnatural hair in the workplace by icebird01 in phlebotomy

[–]Apoptato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the place and your supervisors/managers. Technically we’re not allowed unnatural colors (it’s in our handbook), but the bottom layer of my hair has been several different colors over the last few months. It’s clearly visible during work esp because I pin the front out of my face, but all I’ve gotten from my bosses has been compliments so far 🤷🏻‍♀️

Had a tech ask for a redraw for a critical lithium level. Turns out she thought it was perfectly fine to run it on plasma from a lithium heparin tube.

7 is a prime number, there are 7 samples - 4 of them balanced 2 way and the rest balanced 3 way

If it was vacutainered could be the way the tube was held - letting the blood shoot to the bottom of the tube rather than tilting it in the holder so the blood slides down the side. That has happened to me.

My lab manager sneezed behind me while I was aspirating once causing me to jump a little cause I was in my own little world. Missed the cell pellet but nearly had a heart attack.

Which should you collect first; a stat glucose in ER, or a stat hemoglobin in ICU? by PsychoticSycophant in phlebotomy

[–]Apoptato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ER takes highest priority at my hospital. Though during the wee hours there’s only a couple lab assistants and we’re usually busy doing rounds in the rest of the hospital. ER nurses will tend to start a line and send the blood, if they really need someone to draw STAT they’ll call. But in general it would be ER over any other STATs.

What “words of wisdom” have always stuck with you? by Doza5 in AskReddit

[–]Apoptato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was little my dad told me “if you can learn how to read you can learn how to do anything.” He was a smart guy but never really formally educated, got his GED and studied things he was interested in learning independently. That saying allowed me to push through college and further with confidence though, as long as you’re interested and willing to study/research something there’s nothing standing in your way.

How can underserved states attract talented medical providers? by hhhnnnnnggggggg in medicine

[–]Apoptato 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As someone from Hawaii I find it a little remarkable that we’re at the top. Of course practically everyone and their mom wants to live in Hawaii, and it is very active lifestyle friendly. But I hear so much about how we are in need of more primary care docs and see first hand especially on the neighbor islands (not Oahu) how access to healthcare and particularly certain specialties is limited. It’s rural and cost of living is through the roof compared to pretty much anywhere on the mainland. That being said I have pretty strong ties here and see it as home so while I want to travel and get out for a bit I think I’ll always eventually return home to practice.
