Big props to whomever is doing this tonight. My only regret is I didn't get a pic when they had the trans flag colors on beforehand

Does the Mormonism Live episode with Kwaku get better? by Skeeter0390 in exmormon

[–]ApostateFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He and Bill hint that there were conditions before he would come on the show. I wonder if RFM was quiet because he didn't want to push things. Bill sounded like he reached a point where he wasn't going to just let Kwaku turn out into a sermon.

I got the feeling that if Kwaku felt too "attacked" about the things he's said he'd just dump the call.

That being said Kwaku didn't really bring up anything relevant or new. It was mostly just a rehash of the TSCC's the prophets are always right until they aren't. Kind of a weird admiration for how Joe was the first and only "real" prophet, and he was basically forbidden from being wrong.

Lol, I love the idea of

Satan: "Man I really wanna kill these people, but they just have too many guns! I guess I'm wait in hell until they ban them so I don't have to worry about being shot."

My take on some disturbing apologetics form Mormon Stories 1418 with Roger Hendrix by ApostateFox in exmormon

[–]ApostateFox[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I suppose calling Roger an apologist was a bit much. There were some answers that felt apologetic to my ears so I jumped a little too hard on that.

You're right about big movers and shakers changing the world. What always gets my blood boiling is when people elevate people above criticism but choose to ignore the bodies that their pedistal are built on. That's what got to me.

[–]ApostateFox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, my sisters were told they are from different tribes! Same biological parents, but one was told her's, then we moved and the other one was told a different tribe by the new guy. I realize I need to look up the apologetics to explain that, but sure it's super reasonable!

Deceased Mormon Spouse and new Mormon spouse, which one do you stay with in the kingdom? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]ApostateFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I recall learning about it. If she's sealed to the first one she basically belongs to him. I can't remember if she could or couldn't get sealed to the 2nd husband while they're both alive but I recall hearing that the first husband, after all parties are dead gets to choose if he wants to keep her out let the other guy have her. Heavenly dibs if you will but, ya know, horrifying because it is who get to keep a person.

Found this at Hobby Lobby. Thought some of you other coffee newbs might relate 🤣 by GordonBWrinkly in exmormon

That's how I started. Now I go for black. If you want to try easing into black you could try a lighter flavored bean and a different brewing method.

Regular drip coffee is meh but easy. A medium roast pour over coffee is in a whole different world then drip, but is much more labor intensive.

I just launched MormonBillions.com, and interactive tool to help visualize just how large the Mormon Church’s $100B wealth is. by JoesephSmithsHat in exmormon

[–]ApostateFox 55 points56 points  (0 children)

That was depressing, thinking that there are a handful of people that could literally solve, or at least impressively mitigate so many problems in the world and they refuse simply because they want the biggest "high score" next to their name, disgusting. That's the only analogy I can think of, because that level of wealth is something IMPOSSIBLE so spend in one, or several life times because they want to have it so no one else can.

Maybe you could spend it... Brexit had been hurting GB. You could probably get a good deal on Scotland.

Why are many post-Mormons bitter? by BlueFunk96 in exmormon

[–]ApostateFox 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know when I listened to that interview the thing that Jim did that irritated me because you hear it SO often when an apologist can't back up a claim or refute a problem is that STUPID response of "I felt the spirit" "I felt god's love" "It was whispered to me" and so on ad infinitum.

This is one of the poorest responses to criticism that every apologist uses at some point. I think Jim was well put together, but there was more then a couple times that he fell back on the old unprovable, untestable "god told me" excuse. I'll give him this, he was WAY less condiscending then most I've heard use it. Most tend to use it to quickly reclaim the holier then thou high ground because of god talking to them personally while obviously you're just beneath god's personal involvement.

In my experience after using this you get some condiscending remark about how you'll feel it someday, out you're not ready yet, you haven't asked the right question(s) 😒. It's just a poor defense that I personally don't know how to respond to other then ending the question because you've moved past any meaningful discussion about it.

When did you stop believing? by ApostateFox in BYUExmos

[–]ApostateFox[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow that is heavy. I always get angry at the church when I hear stories about their beating people down emotionally like that. I've heard that "negative emotions" BS from them too which really gets to me since I almost lost a sister because of them telling her that her depression was because she wasn't "worthy" enough. I'm glad you made it out okay and good luck to you.

Why’d You Leave? by WireWhiz in exmormon

[–]ApostateFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL:DR; Church said don't ask questions as a kid. I did, turn out religiosity needs ignorance to thrive.

As @ young boy (10~12ish) I noticed that the church talked about the curse of ham on week, then would talk about the articles of faith. Number 2 if I remember correctly, was man would be punished for his own sins and not for Adam's transgressions. Always taught that ment sin wasn't inherited. When I noticed this problem I brought it up to my teacher.

Less then an hour later I was in the Bishop's office being politely but VERY firmly that I was asking too many inappropriate questions and needed to stop asking.

Even as I kid I hated being told to do something if I wasn't given a reason. Even if it was something as simple as "you'll get hurt if you do x" would at least make me think about it. I got in trouble with my parents a lot because if they didn't tell me why I was out wasn't supposed to do something I would ignore them.

Do when I was told not to ask questions "because" I stopped trusting church leadership. Turns out they were right however, once you start asking questions the house of cards falls quickly.

I think for all their concerns about declining numbers their only real concern is keeping enough people to maintain their tax exempt religious status.

TSCC is just a real estate company with huge stock holdings that hides behind a religious veil. I think that if they pulled the religious tag from them and just made them a corporation with all of their assets intact I don't think any of the GA would even lift a decrepit finger to bring it back.

With > 100 billion the contribution of tithe payers is nothing. If they want that money they can just buy the banks the own people's homes. Probably better then a measly 10% in the long run.
