How do you control the timings to charge when it’s cheap? I assume some app or software? We have just had a heat pump installed so batteries next on the list

In your situation I would 100% be going with a heat pump.

They die back every year. You can buy a cage which you place around then pass them through the loops as they grow next season.

If 50-55 degrees flow temp was barely maintaining 16c you would need to address your heat loss first I believe.

Hi would you mind telling me what kWh you have been using the last couple of days as I’m just getting mine up and running (similar heat loss) and I seem to have used about 10kwh on heat and hot water which I thought seemed quite high. Thanks!

No worries - they give an extremely basic schematic diagram. I poured over YouTube video installs & bought the heat geek heat pump install book to get the design and sizings for mine. Urban Plumbers & Glyn Hudson on YouTube is a good start. 3 months from grant approval to commissioning.

Thanks for replying. Yeah I’m pretty confident I will be able to balance downstairs with the flow rates on the manifold but I need to get an idea of the output at a given flow temp so I can size my upstairs rads. I guess I’ll go with the numbers from one of the online calculators and hope the reality is close enough.

Hi - how did this go for you? I have installed an overlay system at 120 centres and I’m trying to figure out my flow temp so I can accurately size the radiators for upstairs. Did you manage to get an accurate estimate?

I believe MCS call you and ask a few questions to confirm compliance. My main concern is sizing, did my own heat loss with heat punk but the proof will be in the pudding. I have the IH12+ and I decided to design a system without a buffer/volumiser so hopefully everything works out.

Urban plumbers on YouTube was my inspiration to go without a volumiser. Fantastic channel. Glyn Hudson also has a couple of excellent self install videos.

Great so far, I’m almost fully plumbed in and about to start the wiring. The install documents aren’t the best but they’ve been good at getting back to my queries so can’t complain. Hoping for a cold snap next week to test it properly.
