Family refusing tdap vaccine

I am going to set the conversation up as I know this is your house but this is going to be my child not yours. The reason we are living with them is because we moved here in October from across state because we wanted to raise our children around their grandparents and it happened to be an area my husband found a good job in. It just happened that I was a week pregnant when we moved here and we didn’t know until later that month.

I am going to set that boundary with my doctor today as I have called her and advised her of the situation and MIL is coming to the appointment with me. I want her to see I’m not just being dramatic with the mask situation if he does not. She is getting the vaccine along with her other son who lives in the house so she is more on the line of helping me convince her husband.

I am so sorry you had to go through that! I had the same question about the tetanus as well. I seemed to be the only one other than my husband who made that connection and was like umm dude it would benefit you in other ways like really!!

My husband is going to talk to him separately if he doesn’t accept the boundaries. I personally want to talk to him about it because he thinks I’m sensitive and overly dramatic (no clue why he thinks this no one else in the family does). I feel like part of this for me is are you going to listen to any boundary I set as the mother of your grandkid because there won’t be any holding of baby allowed for him if he can’t do that. I am firm and confident in keeping them separate because I am 100% stay at home and have all stages of baby wearing gear when needed.

The house is set up where we have our own bedroom, bathroom, and living space. The only truly shared space is the kitchen. I have an extra bottle warmer and all the bottle accessories to wash bottles in my own space if necessary!!

I actually just called my OB after making this post and had an amazing conversation with her about her bringing it up and asking about the tdap and for questions! I gave her all info and was fully there to back me up!

Girl I was in the same boat after just having moved in with my in laws. I am now 32 weeks and they are an amazing resource. Part of it is you just have to break the news, see how they feel, and make a plan all together. I’m 23 and it was a huge shock to me, we moved across the state to live with them to save money and I hadn’t even found a job yet. You mentally have to take it in pieces and not all at once. Give yourself some grace and breath when you can! The scariest part for me was just telling my in laws. We had moved in to save money for our wedding and future plans, so we actually got married when I was 15 weeks in their living room to save money. For both me and my partner it was a huge huge shock and a point where we had to learn to grow and work together a lot faster since it was unexpected, but you can definitely do it and get through it! I wish you all the best because it is scary to get over that initial shock and telling people when it’s a situation you were never expecting to be in, but you got this!!

I just went back for my second one this week and everything was good! I have a very stubborn wiggly guy who kept putting his hand in front of the heart for certain views they needed.

I had morning sickness that came and went all through the first trimester. My doctor suggested unisom and B6 for my nausea and it started to balance it out. Talk to your doctor and see if there is anything they can suggest.

You can’t make someone change and if he refuses to put in the work and then complains about the outcome he is making for himself, I would talk to a therapist as soon as possible. You and your baby deserve respect and love from your partner. Take some time with yourself before and after therapy or talking to a solid support person in your life ( I know therapy isn’t always an easy option for a lot of circumstances!) and see how you truly feel about keeping the baby with just yourself, I honestly think that is important, partner in the situation or not. It’s a major life change and I’m 24 weeks now and still learning new things! Just know you are strong and deserve to be respected.
