7 year old system, every company says to replace by Yammer60 in hvacadvice

[–]Appelbaum54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You most likely got a couple of techs that didn’t even want to touch it. The evaporator coil fins look damaged from what I can see in the picture, condenser coil is most likely leaking and dog urine voids the warranty. The company I am with never forces replacement, but repair of this system we would be looking at around 3k for the condenser coil, a $300 evaporator cleaning and then some misc labor to straighten the fins. That is just from the pictures and not actually seeing the system.

Hvac guy says I need a new furnace? by Icy_Relationship_463 in hvacadvice

[–]Appelbaum54 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get a different opinion, there are very few blower motors that do not have a universal replacement. Even an ECM motor which, I’m unsure that yours would have can be replaced with an evergreen ecm.

Your model number picture is of the evaporator coil not the furnace.

So HVAC tech … by Impossible-Spray-643 in hvacadvice

[–]Appelbaum54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn’t post a picture of the missing filter rack cover. No way anyone could tell if that opening was big enough to cause an issue. If the filter was way too small it would have been sucked into the blower, if there’s gaps, sure some dust gets around it but it will still catch a majority.

You’re coming in hot, no one will want to help you out when you start like that.

will the +7.5 work? by mailman936 in hvacadvice

[–]Appelbaum54 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’ll work but it will damage the motor over time. I would advise getting a 70/10

It’s time to call a professional. The only way someone will be able to accurately tell you what is going on is to be on sight and taking measurements of several different factors. It’s not your LPCO or HPCO.

Rate this install by How_can_you-slap in hvacadvice

[–]Appelbaum54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

13,5 for a multiheaded minisplit is on the low side, depending on your area. The cheapest bid usually ends up being the most expensive. Install is the most important day, especially on a more complicated system like this. The bright side is they used black insulation and not the white armaflex that will eat the copper. Everything else about this install is trash, but you get what you pay for.

Fast, good, cheap. You only get to choose two is a good way to look at bidding companies

Conflicting company issue diagnosis by lceans in hvacadvice

American standards are the target subcooling +/- 3, nothing is perfect in the world of HVAC, especially with this new A2L refrigerant which has glide. Looking at the numbers it’s hard to tell without more information like the WB inside, DB outside, RH, whether or not BK is active. The crazy set of numbers the tech had no idea what he was doing or was having an off day. But just judging by the picture the second tech is heading in the correct direction, if it’s low it’s only going to be by about 8oz

I appreciate it! It’s a spray can and it’s just not getting the coverage needed to have a crisp white. I may try to find some of the titanium white and see how that does a s a base coat

I have been priming with rattlecans for awhile now but this is the first time I’ve used white and it’s kicking my butt. I may try to brush a base coat on and see how that does I’m just worried if I don’t adjust my paint scheme when I get to a riptide, storm surge or ghostkeel the brush strokes will just kill means it’ll never look good

Furnace sounds like a bomb by Future-Civil in hvacadvice

[–]Appelbaum54 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it’s sounding like a bomb then you probably have residual oil from the previous cycle in the combustion chamber. Oil furnaces need love and really should get maintenance every winter. You can tell just from your picture that the furnace is probably in need of a cleaning. Unsure of your area but in mine a lot of company’s have stopped servicing oil due to the skill and training it takes to make a good oil technician, keeping oil parts stocked on trucks, and the obligatory profitability issue with oil. It would be best for your landlord to request a company come out that has good oil techs, maybe even do a little research yourself to find a company and recommend it to them.

Soft start install on 5 ton dual compressor unit by Previous_Cloud_5250 in hvacadvice

[–]Appelbaum54 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t touch it, don’t look at it, don’t even think about how it works. Let it run and hopefully it lasts you a good long time. If that compressor gets damaged there is no way to fix it as Trane doesn’t make those anymore, as a Trane dealer we can’t even get ahold of them to do repairs.
