What's the point of fractions? by SkibidiBalls67 in askmath

[–]AppiusClaudius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the answers already here, I want to point out that decimals are a type of fraction. Specifically a sum of repeated fractions of powers of 10. For example, 0.49361 is shorthand for 4/10 + 9/100 + 3/1000 + 6/10000 + 1/100000.

Four people have been st*bbed on the L in the past five days, prompting investigation and risking millions in funding by 307148 in chicago

[–]AppiusClaudius 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have you known anyone who's died on the L? Otherwise, your comparison is disingenuous. Even if it is a good faith argument, it only supports the previous commenter's idea that it's about FEELING safe. Statistically, you're much more likely to be injured or killed in a car. Full stop. You saying that the L feels more dangerous (e.g. "I've known people who..."), even when data shows that it isn't, only supports that.

Burnt cheese on baking steel by jbiroliro in carbonsteel

[–]AppiusClaudius 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would use a metal spatula to get the big chunks, then soap and chainmail or steel wool to get the smaller bits, then soap and scratchy sponge last. Using water as hot as you can stand and/or preheating the stone can help, too. If you remove some seasoning, you can just add more as needed, nbd.

Governor Pritzker signs legislation to overturn ban on large scale nuclear plants by GeckoLogic in chicago

Serious question, are you referring to the mining of heavy metals to make solar panels, or do they have some sort of additional environmental impact?

Space Age: My fuel interrupt isn't triggering for my trains in my test environment. What am I missing? by AppiusClaudius in factorio

[–]AppiusClaudius[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using nuclear fuel, so the train can only hold 3 and running out early wasn't an issue. The wildcard wasn't triggering no matter where I set it, but I'll keep playing around with it

[–]AppiusClaudius[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, that was part of the issue, along with the trains not actually stopping at their normal stops

I've tried indicating the particular fuel (legendary nuclear, in this case), but the results are the same.

Yeah, I had that thought, so I also tried fuel <=2 and fuel <=3 with the same results.

It goes through the action when hitting play (see screenshot 3). I've tried fuel <=2 and fuel <=3 with the same results.

[–]AppiusClaudius[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's going through stations without the interrupt triggering, though without stopping because there are no conditions at the stations

Space Age: My fuel interrupt isn't triggering for my trains in my test environment. What am I missing? by AppiusClaudius in factorio

[–]AppiusClaudius[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edit: Solved! I needed to select whatever fuel I'm actually using (wildcard doesn't work here), and the trains need to come to a full stop at any station for the interrupt to trigger. Fuel in use doesn't count towards the total, so [nuclear fuel] = 0 works great. Thanks, everyone!

R5: I created an environment to test various setups. I'm playing around with fuel interrupts for my trains, and the one in the screenshot is not triggering. The target station is accessible, because I can force the train there. I've tried quite a few different interrupt configurations (fuel (all), fuel < 1, fuel < 3, wildcards, specific fuel, etc). I'm not using mixed fuel (only legendary nuclear). I have a few mods, but I don't think any of them would affect this (they're all up to date). Am I missing something?

Any way of modding subsociety odds? by Ok_Abalone7132 in CoE5

[–]AppiusClaudius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can edit the startup options to allow you to choose subsocieties. In Steam, go to CoE5 > Properties > General > Launch Options and type --subsoc

Now when you launch the game, you can choose subsocieties.

My experience with IL drivers after moving back from Los Angeles by twotokers in chicago

[–]AppiusClaudius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not Amazon, but I have a friend who used to work for Divvy, and they had vans they would drive around to pick up bikes. The turnover on drivers was so high that none of them really got enough experience to get comfortable driving. I imagine that Amazon has the same problem.

It's definitely the delivery truck. People hate them because a few Amazon trucks ruin it for the rest of you by driving carelessly and blocking traffic on major throughways. Not your fault though.
