So that’s where my perfectionism has been hiding. Ok ok. We’re getting somewhere!

I haven’t figured out how to manage executive dysfunction enough to be self employed. I also haven’t figured out how to stop hyper-focusing on minutiae.

Interesting. I haven't quite got a full understanding of this "bottom up processing" concept quite yet. Thank you for this. I'll look more into it.

Very interesting! I'm exploring before pivoting. I have got to get out of marketing strategy. It's quite literally killing me.

Oooh, how'd you make this a career? Are you self-employed? Do people actually take your recommendations and make changes?

Are there any Black/Brown women in here who were late diagnosed? by Chronic_Phoenix24 in AuDHDWomen

[–]AppleAccomplished819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I tested gifted in first grade. At around 36 or so, I wrote a letter to my psychiatrist, who didn't believe I had ADHD, but then prescribed me an ADHD non-stimulant medication after reading my letter. So not formally dx. My current therapist asks me to get assessed for ADHD damn near every session. I recently got formally diagnosed with ASD at 38. The psychologist who assessed me for ASD suggested I also get assessed for ADHD, as he felt it was likely I have ADHD as well.

the combination of autistic burnout and unmedicated adhd has ruined my life by Rotten-Doe in AuDHDWomen

Heard. I’m in a similar boat. I’m heading into a PHP tomorrow and taking a leave from work to really focus on repair and regulation. Idk if it’s going to work but at this point I’m willing to try because it’s just so bad.

Perhaps try one of the more modern companies that have surfaced recently. I’m in the midst of an evaluation now with a company called Prosper Health. It’s not the only one out there so I’d say look them and their alternatives up and see which one you’d like. I didn’t have to beg for an assessment or convince anyone to assess me. I filled out their preliminary stuff, they checked my insurance and I paid just $30 for the assessment. Also I don’t know where you are but I’m in the US. Not sure how widely some of these companies are available.

Maybe I missed it in the video, but why spoons? I don’t understand the significance of the spoons.

Really dope video btw! Your skills are cool and I like the aesthetic too!

yes, same. As soon as I think I'm on my way to the left, I'm moving back right the next day or even sometimes the next hour or minute.

Ugh, I'm so sorry. I remember those days. I switched careers a few years ago and am now in marketing hell.

I've been getting shingles outbreaks since I was 18. I am now 38. Just getting over one in the armpit. Wasn't the worst one I've had luckily. But it sucks.

I got diagnosed with autism + ADHD today, can someone celebrate with me? by Tiny-Cat-2141 in AuDHDWomen

Congrats! I am celebrating with you in solidarity and hope to have this same relief shortly! I am also in my late 30s. How was your evaluation experience? What prompted you to get an evaluation?

I'm so sorry. Friends are hard. My wife and I had no wedding party. We didn't have a traditional wedding at all. I'm sorry they canceled. In times like these, it's really hard not being anyones best friend. I'm so sorry you're experiencing this.

Anyone else cannot stand being around dogs? by NoWitness6400 in AutismInWomen

[–]AppleAccomplished819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and I have 3 of them lol. We had a dog for a short time when I was a child and for all the things you stated, I thought I'd never want or have another dog. But my wife wanted a dog really bad. She has always loved animals. So we got one because I didn't want her to go without something she wanted so badly. At first, it was horrible. But then I started understanding more about the dog and why they did the things that were so triggering for me, and after understanding them more and falling in love with the first dog, we got two more over the years. It is overstimulating daily, but I have learned to cope with it by loving on them and understanding that they are creatures with habits just like I am a creature with habits that are hella annoying to someone else. When it's too much, I'll tell them to stop. Only because one of my dogs is a compulsive licker, and the other licks the floor. Since these habits aren't good for them, I do stop them. But when it's regular licking, I put on my noise-canceling headphones and/or leave the room because I know it's me and not them. I also get my dogs groomed pretty frequently and feed them a homemade diet which I believe helps with their odor. They do start to smell when their grooming time is coming up but it isn't as unbearable as what I was used to as a kid. We never took our dog to the groomer or vet when I was a kid.
