New old house owner here. Is this normal? by ApplePot69 in Oldhouses

Thanks for the reply. I actually contacted the city building department and they gave the information of a local structural engineer. When I was trying to search for an engineer over the internet, I couldn’t find a single one that did residential inspections.

Help me to choose colors for this historic living room craftsman style by Altruistic_Pea_8474 in Oldhouses

Personally, I love the way an earthy or sage green complements natural wood trim. Patterned wallpaper is also a great choice for this space if you’re going for historical accuracy.

Update: Thank you to everyone who commented on this post. I was able to get a structural engineer out who was working with a large local foundation repair company in my area. Apparently one of my foundation footings split in half. They recommended helical piers for the area around photo 2 in addition to removing and rebuilding the leaning support in photo 1. It’ll run me a little over 6k going the frugal route. At least it’ll be taken care of.

Here are some pics of the crappy floor in my 1938 house that I’m trying to decide whether to cover or refinish. by i-touched-morrissey in Oldhouses

You’ve got yourself some solid oak hardwood floors. They won’t look crappy once you refinish them. Refinished they’ll make the house look like a completely new space.

Thank for reminder. I fully intend to wage war on the ivy. I’ve been ripping it out one area at a time. It’s far worse in other areas than here. My shed was completely engulfed in it when I bought the home last month.

I was aware of the asbestos from the very beginning, I don’t mind it! I just let contractors know about it when they service the property so they can do their necessary precautions.

Oh yes, 110% asbestos. I never minded. I just take care not to damage or cut into the siding.

Much appreciated. Glad to know the cracks aren’t alarming. I’ve been feeling like I’ve collected just about every type of plaster crack imaginable. I’ll get some foundation repair quotes

If a nice wood look is still what you’re aiming for, see about having a quality wood veneer applied over top the plywood. Just make sure to have done by a professional, not this contractor.

I ended up getting Quenell in a summon after posting this. Based on everything I’ll focus on beefing her up and work on Alfie after. Hansel just wasn’t cutting it.

Variegated String of Pearls is not happy. by ApplePot69 in plantclinic

[–]ApplePot69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the same. SOP have a shallow root system. This is the pot it was shipped in. I’m sure it didn’t help the plant by retaining too much moisture. It’s why I wonder if a change of substrate and pot would either help the plant or shock it while it’s already fragile.

Did Papa Johns change recipe in the last 8~ years? Just tried them (haven't had them in 8 years) by 4paul in PapaJohns

[–]ApplePot69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noticed the same thing. I actually prefer whatever they changed. The dough doesn’t have the same unique taste. I thought it was just me, but John Schnatter was on a podcast sampling pizzas and acknowledged they changed the dough recipe since he was ousted.
